I completely understand what that first reply is talking about. He/she is most likely referring to Silksong (or as I call it, "Simpsong") the "sequel", about the abusive girl-boss character "Hornet". We can't have a male hero knight anymore, he's off the table, along with the rest of the amazing cast of characters the original game already had - we have to make a strong, edgy female as the protagonist and trash the whole original kingdom for her. It's a good example that I've made a few times regarding what's going on in the gaming industry. I don't mind a female warrior character, but Hornet is very unpleasant, narcissistic, arrogant, and cruel. Not to mention, a lot of the HK fandom is toxically woke... Too many games are getting this treatment, even obscure indie games like HK. Hornet essentially ruined the series. If "Simpsong" ever exists, it will absolutely not be successful. Everyone I have ever discussed HK with in the real world doesn't like Hornet. It would be better if TC just updated Hollow Knight and made a Hornet saga DLC, along with other characters playable. But no. It's all about the waifu... You probably wouldn't agree, and people who bring this game up here in the commenta (including myself) are getting a lot of vicious replies. I respect others opinions, but it's true about what's going on with HK, and this video is so accurate as to where all games are going these days. Woke, edgy woman protagonist, etc...

I have a theory, i think they try to be woke but also try to market towards straight women. The problem is that all of these DEI people aren't straight women and don't actually know what we like. I worked in the industry this is all accurate but it’s all said in business-ese over months of back and forth in never ending meetings and emails. And anyone who is a real dev can’t say anything about it or ‘else’ and the ones that do slowly get removed and pushed out. It’s horrible.

I just literally just got done watching a guy's video about what happened to masculinity in video games. Only as soon as 6 years ago, things were still relatively sane. Now you can't play 10 minutes without finding somebody gay or a political commentary about social justice. It's all because of the diverse hires they've been bringing into their teams who seem to hate most of the gamers they're creating for.

Yes, art always had politic themes, but video games were built upon ESCAPING reality not being sucked into the worst parts of it.
