Thank you Ryan and Holly and John for doing this compelling interview. As a woman I would have liked to hear more of Holly's transition story. Her experience reading In Sacred Loneliness etc.. I am, also, in the Rexburg "book club" Dawn Anderson has been so great in spearheading. I wish I had attended more often so I could have shared your story. Ryan's struggle was compelling to us because our transition was carried by biblio sources. My husband, also, was a professor at Ricks and "losing your religion" while working there is a tight rope act. Thank you for daring, risking, and sharing!

All the beautiful stories, shared by all the beautiful people. Thank you for sharing your stories. John, thank you for spending so much time that is diving into others stories. Non-Mormon, Believer in all Religions, and no religions. Very much enjoying jumping into the uncharted territory for me that is your podcast. Keep rocking it out!

All or nothing only yields suffering. That's a great nugget of advice. Embracing uncertainty and change

It’s exactly like you always say John- Mormonism is consistently bleeding its best & brightest. They would rather have a less educated &/or less talented professor if they’re a TBM with an entire TBM family. Which is just going to get harder & harder. Eventually every qualified prof will have a spouse or child or parents that have resigned &/or that are outspoken or progressive. ESPECIALLY in the arts. They’ll be having to hire their own graduates & replace them every few years as they “wake up”/outgrow Mormonism.
You ARE a bird that sings Ryan. I truly enjoyed hearing your songs. Thank you Holly & Ryan for your interview.

If BYU or BYU-I receives any type of federal funding, it's absolutely sickening that my tax dollars would suport such blatant abuse. Furthermore, I want to contrast Ryan Nielsen's BYU-I teaching experience with my experience teaching for a Jesuit (Catholic) university in the US a few years ago. I wasn't asked before, during, or after the hiring process whether I was Catholic or even whether I believed in god. I was only asked to uphold the university's principles: ""emphasize the importance of critical thinking, having a global perspective, and standing up for those who do not have a voice."

This have been the jesuits style in the last decades, but even in more conservative segments of the Catholic Church, It would not be accepted by staff on a Catholic University to be demanded to go to Mass on Sunday and profess their Faith in a public way. It would be a scandal, at least in Europe.

The bird that sings because of the questions....love that imagery.

It’s been three years. Does anybody know if BYU Idaho has made any improvements with the sexual harassment issues?

Why not create an independent Ombudsman position to resolve these type of issues?

@@annwood6812 As we all well know the Church moves at a glacial pace when confronted by such issues. That is why I suggested a independent "well respected" Ombudsman on all sides to deal with these concerns until the Church can get up to speed and decide how they need to address title 9 concerns. The last thing the Church wants is for this to become some public scandal.

So many times I wanted to hear what Holly was saying....& she constantly got cut off/interrupted by John. I love this whole Mormon stories program but I can’t help thinking that Holly surly had to feel that she was stifled (unintentionally I’m sure) especially here at the end.

Would the state of Idaho be able to go after the LDS church for religious discrimination if Ryan would have been fired. ?

What does he mean about separating faith and belief? Out sounds like he had done some real thinking on the subject but it wasn't fully explained
