Thank you for the video. I left the military due to ptsd and injuries that prevented me from doing job- and had no medical board. I have struggled with ptsd for 17 years, and had to change my civilian career due to ptsd and foot injuries. I have lost at least 8 jobs due to flare-ups of ptsd which prevented me from functioning in the workplace. I have been in an inpatient and outpatient program, with no improvement yet. I have a c&P exam this month and I don’t know what will happen to me if I don’t get help, as I can’t keep a job and am homeless with a child.

Thank you so much for making this video. I have my C&P tomorrow. I've already been once, but required again to see if symptoms have changed. My first C&P was in 2014, so this was a great refresher to get me mentally prepared.

Hey guys. Had a question pertaining to my C&P Exam.
I had my C&P Exam last week (for PTSD) and she informed me that she was going to diagnosis me with PTSD and MDD.
Do you feel this is a step in the right direction for winning my claim?
It has been a long road and I am happy to know she acknowledged the issues I have been having all this time.
Thanks for all you guys do for us Vets

Some of my ratings when placed on the VA chart come out with a different total when combined. I was rated as a 60 percent Service Connected for a long time and Doctors found an other major problem that is also Service Connected at 70 percent. When the two ratings are combined I received an 80 percent Service Connected Disability Ratings and I thought that the combined ratings would equal a100 Percent Service Connected Rating but I was wrong. I appreciate what the V A is doing for me and hope that in the future they will increase my number ratings to 100 percent Service Connected. Douglas Ray Dickinson

If a service member served in the military on active duty for 8 years or more, their existed prior to military service (EPTS) or genetic conditions are automatically considered service-aggravated, and thus eligible for DoD/va disability, unless it can be proven otherwise. Also, In 2010, the VA eased up the requirements for getting disability compensation for post-traumatic stress disorder. Veterans no longer have to have proof that the event that caused the PTSD occurred. This rule is not just for combat veterans but for all veterans who experienced fear of hostile or terrorist activity.

I know this is an old post, but I hope you are correct. I'm over 20, but they are pushing medical retirement for PTSD. It has been incredibly debilitating. I can barely leave my apartment let alone make it into work. Frequent panic attacks, severe anxiety, mood swings, etc. The problem is that it is the environment, related to childhood trauma, but it didn't start until I got stationed too close to my hometown. 20 years, four other duty stations, and two deployments, I was fine. Got stationed here and within four months I was starting to randomly cry for what seemed like no reason, disassociate, have trouble completing a lot of tasks that I used to do with ease, stress eating to the point of binging, and have disturbing memories that refuse to leave my mind. I even started having flashbacks. Some of the flashbacks are military related, but most of them are not. I even started spacing out/losing time while getting ready to leave which caused me to be chronically late. That is what ended up sending me to mental health because I set timers to see what was taking me so long to get ready and realized I was losing about 35 mins in the morning to the void. I was worried I might have brain damage or something, but it turned out to be extreme anxiety causing me to blank out. All of that being said, I firmly believe that if I had never returned so close to home, none of this would have ever happened and I'd probably be happily living out my career somewhere else. I'm even concerned about what happens after I get out when I move away (there is no way I plan to stay in the area) if most of the symptoms go away? I tried to get them to move me several times, but you probably know how that goes. I wouldn't say the Army directly caused it, but I would definitely say that the Army made it worse.

I requested an increase for it and I’m curious if your C&P examiner looked at your diagnosis and existing records OR did they basically redo all the questions you had already done to get your diagnosis. Thank you.

Stressors also involve non combat training accidents ....I was injured during a training accident , and was honorably discharged soon after , years later while struggling with diagnosed PTSD i filed for VA benefits and VA could not find NO records of this event ,but i did have my own psychologist treatment records and the C&P examiner agree that stressor event did occur and completed the nexus , still waiting on a decision ... If i get denied , will CCK take up my case ?

I cannot think of any rational or logical reason to send a Vet for a C&P exam when the C&P examiner is less qualified than the VA health care provider.) And, there are VA medical records spanning more than 10 years of a diagnosis and treatment by the Veterans Health Administration of PTSD. Even more questionable when the Vet is not, as a contract doctor opines diagnosed with PTSD per the DSM-5 criteria. To have a C&P examiner opine the Vet did not have PTSD because the Vet failed to exhibit one of the DSM-5 required symptoms but did have a well-documented history of PTSD. And, in PTSD where the condition does not; always show evidence of the illness (waxes and wanes) at all times and all places not to mention that most individuals have comorbid or an additional diagnosis which might mask one or more individual DSM-5 requirements for the diagnosis of PTSD,' is questionable. In my situation, a contract psychologist opines the Vet did not have PTSD which directly contradicted 10 years of treatment, as well as the most recent opine of a VHA psychiatrist of PTSD, and the VA, deny the Vets claim and cite the lack of a PTSD diagnosis by the C&P examiner as the reason' is either ludicrous or the VA is guilty of malpractice for treating the Vet for over ten years for a condition that does exist and never has; according to the contract examiner, existed. This is why the VA should never have sent someone currently under treatment by their doctors, for a C&P exam by a contract examiner; the VA could request their VA doctor perform the exam, of course, it sounds stupid since one would not expect the VA doctor to deny their own diagnosis. The only rationale reason to send a Vet in that situation to a contract doctor is with the intention there would not be a chance of a PTSD diagnosis by the contract psychologist.

I’m in the same situation. Diagnosed with PTSD by TWO different VA doctors and receiving treatment. Filed a claim for it and the VA sent me to an outside psychologist C&P exam where they guy was looking for any excuse to deny it. I could tell within the first few questions that his main goal was to deny it. If my claim is denied not only will I go to the media and expose what the VA is doing but I’m filing any lawsuit that I can. I suggest any other vets do the same, it’s the only way to get the VA in check.

I’m sorry to bother you. However I’m curious as to where I’m sitting with my first C&P exam. They marked me in the 10% category for the social and work impairment. However the examiner noted highly constricted affect, disturbances of motivation and mood; difficulty in establishing and maintaining effective work and social relationships, depressed mood, anxiety, suspiciousness, panic attacks (weekly or less often). Do you think I’m sitting at a 10% rating with this criteria or does the rating board look at the overall symptoms as well as buddy statements and the PCL5? For PCL5 I have a score of 55. Thank you in advance.

I had my eye popped out of my head in the line of duty requiring surgery due to an intoxicated soilder assaulting me do you think I qualify for 100% I have had close to 40 jobs in 21 years since it happened my life has been one big dumpster fire since the army chaptered me out for misconduct for several minor things mainly insubordination with an general under honorable thank god I have the paper saying I was assaulted in the line of duty because my shitty unit tried acting like I was my fault because these guys were days from going to SFAS and they didnt want to ruin their careers. I was 19 years old and didnt know any better. I'm 40 now and I realised to long after that It was better for my unit at the time to save these guys instead of crucifying them for there drunk assault and how embarrassing it would be to this new command to just push me out of the army with a series of constant harrassment and bullying all just within acceptable designed by them to break me in a way to get their voluntary chapter 14. I accepted it because I had no other option to get out of the army and I regret.

My VA rep said you only get compensation for the mental disability if you are diagnosed with ptsd if you are diagnosed after being discharged from the service
That's why was I diagnosed with anxiety and depression by the va. Not ptsd so i couldn't get compensation after my diagnosis
This was basically said in a row while recieving treatment from my va psychologist

Any mental illness found after serves has to be diagnosed with PTSD or you don't get compensation. It's real easy for the VA to not comp for disability by not directly calling it PTSD

I have ptsd from MST , my claim got mixed with TBI and isn’t even called “PTSD MST” or “sexual trauma”
Is just “ptsd with UNSPECIFIED disorder and anxiety “
Why? I come to see VSO About this i am told “there isn’t record of mst here”

That's exactly why I didn't go to a VSO. The thought of a male (in my hometown) assessing my claim only made me more reluctant to file.
P.S. - I know it's hard to relive all that stuff and hope the best for you.

My exam dude said he thinks I "lucked out" and am Bi Polar, then said I should be on lithium. I laughed and asked if he was fucking serious. He was.
I am a infantry combat veteran who deployed in 09, had sworn statements for being shot at etc. I fucking hate the VA
