I just recently finished watching the whole show. I always had one piece to go to when I was bored, always something new, and I would think, "I suppose I could go catch up on one piece." But now... There's no more to catch up on.
The fact that you didn’t pick up on the emotional writing in the earlier arc that many other animes lack is incredible. Comparing Naruto to one piece is crazy considering most the relationships in naruto is extremely toxic. And I say this as a hardcore naruto fan who started watching one piece because a friend introduced me to it. Luffy is considered to be one of the most (if not the most) emotionally intelligent MC in anime.
It's very clear that you're watching this as a dragon ball fan and refusing to watch the show through a different lens. I mean the reasons you've listed as to what you like about the show are the classic shonen anime tropes that you don't want to let go of. Zoro's and Sanji are your favorites because they're fit the cool fighting guy trope, you thought Skypiea was boring because there weren't any spectacular fights, you liked Enel because he fits the cool guy trope, you like Ace and smoker for the same reason. I mean seriously. The only characters you don't like are Usopp and Luffy because they're goofy and you just cant stand to see that for some reason. You didn't even start liking the show until Alabasta. Luffy's backstory, the end of Baratie, Nami asking for help, the defeat of Arlong, Whiskey Peak, Drum Island? None of those did it for you? Well, if you're in it for the fights alone, then I'm glad to say they do get better and more spectacular, but it really pains me to know you won't pay attention to the really juicy bits of the show.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too. If you watch anime just for the visuals or the cool factor, then One Piece probably isn’t for you. But honestly, it’s one of the most serious and deep stories out there. As you get further into it, you’ll start to see how messed up that world is. But Oda is so good at blending heavy themes with goofy moments that you might not even realize it unless you really dive into it
thank you finally someone who understands not everything is about fights I absolutely love dragon ball with all my heart and soul but its the same with one piece and its because if I want over the top insane fights and power to break planets and universes I would go to dragon ball or bleach or naruto but if I want beautiful fights and PEAK STORYTELLING and really good world building I go to one piece it just seems like this guy can't truly open his mind and understand the messages that the series is trying to send and show hopefully later on in his journey he can truly come to understand all the messages and come to appreciate how deep EVERY character really is
@@luffyflexn318he complained about them joking about deaths in sky island arc, I don’t think he has the capability to understand the hidden layers beneath the goofy moments.
I glad I'm not the only one thinking this as I'm watching... It's weird but it almost feels a bit disrespectful to Oda in both the story telling and heart and soul poured into the motions.... then again he is watching it Dubbed, which for Dragon Ball series in understandable, as I actually think Dubbed sounds much better in that case... however for One Piece... the Jap VAs really make One Piece... shine in the most emotional parts of the show.
I think so many people get overwhelmed with One Piece because they feel rushed to catch up or focus wayy too much on power scaling. For me, One Piece is really about the journey, character development, and relationships. It has a special kind of charm. At its core, One Piece is a story about found family. Gathering broken people and giving them the freedom to be themselves. Let it be fun and don't let others dictate how you enjoy it.
People who watch anime while doing dishes or something else just don't deserve watching it and are being completely disrespectful to those who made the anime
oml this is the exact same problem Moist Cr1tikal had. He rants so hard about Luffy being so hard on the ears yet still insists on watching it dubbed, smh.
Honestly the moment you said Zoro and Sanji are your favorites and that you only liked Dragon Ball and Bleach and Naruto growing up i could already see how you were going to feel about Usopp because it’s always the same with yall
Every time someone doesn't like Skypeia i get sad. I don't remember not liking it. Maybe it's retrospect but it's really good. Enel is a good antagonist. And it sets up so much! People's dreams never die!!
Lol, those are skindeep fans...the fire of shandora plotline alone is worth watching that arc, also the conclusion to the jaya storyline plus the lore about skyislands is a very significant part of the plot. Skypeia has the same intrigue if not more than the arlong park and that is a highly rated arc.
That's what I said!! I remember reading Skypiea in comic when I was kid and I love everything about it. The final blow and the golden bell ringing got me in tears! I know everyone has different opinion but I'm just sad Skypiea didn't get the love and respect it deserved
2:32 FINALLY someone is bringing up this point. "It's too long", while I can kind of get, isn't that good of an argument. If it's good and you're enjoying it, more should be a positive! (Unless, of course, your argument is that you just don't have enough free time. But even then, no one is saying you have to catch up within a certain time period, or catch up at all before it ends)
"yeah, I was *that* anime kid" yeah we can tell zoro stan, also USSOPP AND SKYPIEA SLANDER? blud is a naruto fan through and through, clowning on one of the best arcs in the entire anime (although the pacing complaint is 1000% deserved) and stanning the edgy character with *generic shonen protagonist* energy ;-;
It's interesting to get different povs. One Piece is a complex story with a complex cast of characters and complex world building. This means that there's not one specific thing characterizing it, the humor and adventure side are just as much part of the story as the more serious and action-packed elements, which means that if you aren't that much into the humor and adventure side, you won't fully appreciate the whole of the story. I feel like that's what separates watchers who liked arcs like Skypeia vs those who didn't. Skypeia handles some very serious themes (I'd say some quite applicable to what's going on in our world today) but it's also packed with humor and adventure. I had sooo much fun watching that arc and was so confused when i heard some ppl say they skipped it or telling new watchers to do that. I got so hyped over the info revealed or the set up for future major reveals. This also applies to liking characters like Usopp vs hating him. So yeah, if you expect or desire only badass moments and badass characters, One Piece won't ever fit that mold. What's beautiful is how much variety OP has to offer.
People who only watch animes for their flashy fight scenes are so simplistic . If you say you're going to watch one piece you need to drop that view and look at one piece newly as something else . Its as if your not even trying to properly giving it an actual chance bar from the fight scenes. You might as well not just watch it
its interesting how similar all these dbz naruto type fans who get into one piece reluctantly have the same opinions: zoro cool skypea more like skippia and so on. just an observation
Am I the only one who genuinely liked Skypiea? Even with the anime version having bad pacing, I found it really cool. Getting to learn about a whole new civilisation with its own culture, cool new technology, etc. We also got some really cool characters, like the entire Nolan backstory with the tribe was epic. The fight between Zoro and that dude with the guns and cloud skates is one of the most underrated fights in the series. We also got Sanji being smart AF and ruining Enel's plans. We also got introduced to a new power system (that'll be important later). In fact, it's not just the Poneglyph, we got the ship repairing mystery, we got classifications for the different devil fruit types, we got new tech for Usopp, etc. How were the stakes not high? We got Enel nuking multiple islands with his lightning and the citizens had to evacuate. We also got that one tribal dude with the bazooka who essentially came up with a Batman level strategy to beat Enel and it worked but, Enel restarted his own heart. The only thing in the arc that was genuinely "boring" was Luffy being stuck in that snake, aside from that, the arc was great. This guy seems to only like the "cool" portions of anime in general cos, when he brought up Bleach for example, he said that the first arc was bad. It wasn't though, it was more "slice of life" but that's not a bad thing, it gave us time to learn about the characters in a more relatable way. Also Shanks and Law are cooler than Vegeta and Kakashi. Even Nolan from the Skypiea arc is cooler than Vegeta.
Also has one of the best opening/closing links with the shadows and the pose. Maybe not the strongest gesture, like the X in Alabasta, but is so powerful for our character. And the fact that the crew got the Merry to the sky! Just for adventure sake. Luffy just wanted to go to the sky because is awesome and people don't understand that that is enough. I don't want the story to have "noticeable progress" I want to go with Luffy to the sky to fool around
Top 3 arc for me, my only conclusion is a lot of viewers are cynical and have lost all connections with their inner child and feel no joy in the magic of adventure. Sad
Yeah smoker comes back in the show for a good bit. One piece is a show that reuses EVERY character atleast once. The pacing doesn’t get better but right now you’re in store for one of if not the best arc in one piece. Have fun man your gonna be here for a long ass time but it’s gonna be worth it
I'm just about to finish whole cake island and I know wano is over 200 episodes but I thought dressrosa pacing was awful and dragged on to long that's the only arc I didn't much care for
@@hirosleuther wano is only 180 episodes. Can’t believe I’m saying only there. For dressrosa yeah it has horrible pacing and the lacing doesn’t get better in wano
"Omg the characters look so goofy" Have you figured out that thats the point of the show? You do realize it's a comedy right? Most of the characters aren't supposed to "look" cool. What makes them "cool" is whats underneath. The whole point of the show is that appearances can be deceiving. One Piece is the epitome of don't judge a book by it's cover. Which is emphasized with it's main character.
One Piece characters: Look goofy. Compelling and human backstory. Naruto and Bleach characters: Look cool. Only main characters and antagonists have any development. We cried over a boat in One Piece. I shrug my shoulders at most shounen side character, and some main characters, deaths. That is the difference.
It's funny how this video contains all the stereotypes of the One Piece Twitter fan. The next step is to say that Long Ring Long Land should be skipped, to hate Fishman Island and to say that after the time skip One Piece got lost, ending with hating *that* transformation for not being "badass and dark" enough. But the video was cool, welcome to the fandom.
He's not even at half of those points, he's at Water 7. We don't know how he'll feel about Fishmen Island, post timeskip, or anything else you're jumping the gun on. Chill.
@@Strawhat_Pirates3D2Y I don't think you understood my comment. I think it's pretty obvious that he's not up to date with the latest events, the joke here is precisely to project that he might continue with the same complaints that people who don't like the elements he hasn't liked so far tend to have.
@raulcavalcantte5433 I understood you. Projecting your feelings onto a new fan for just sharing their honest feedback without the foresight that people's opinions can change isn't exactly welcoming. It's disuasive. Is it your goal to dissuade new fans from enjoying the series you like? Because if so, I'll shut up, and you can carry on. Because you're doing a pretty damn good job if disuading and projecting the stereotypical toxic fan is your intent.
Love skypiea, but long ring long land and fish man island are understandably hated. One piece is my favorite piece of fiction of all time, but fishman Island took me over a year to get through. Hody sucked, his entourage was extremely forgettable, the characters introduced in fishman island did nothing for me, outside of Fisher Tigers backstory. It woulda been a fine little comeback arc if it was like half the length it was.
If you dislike Skypeia you're never gonna be a true One Piece fan. But thats ok. You're just a tourist here seeing what all the fuss is about. You'll properly understand that very clearly as you catch up.
As someone who started one piece a few months back, and am now on 1050s. Makes me remember the good times when everything was simpler, and OP fans know what I mean by “SIMPLIER.” I wish you luck on your trek across the sea!
You didn't enjoy Skypiea when it's comedy peak?! This is what happens when people go into One Piece with 'an obligation'. This is always my advice for people going into One Piece: ENJOY IT AT YOUR OWN PACE. If you don't feel like watching it for a time, don't force yourself to watch it. I recommend watching it per Arc, and if somewhere in the middle you felt weird or you get bored, you can always pause. I remember when I hated some parts of Enies Lobby, and when I re-watched it, I was able to pinpoint why I got turned off, it's the pacing and the random flashbacks before the climax. But when I re-watched at my own pace, I experienced PEAK. I was not taken aback by the repetitive backstories before Robin's key scene. That's because, right then, I was invested that it didn't bother me anymore plus I already expected it. I experienced this fatigue and annoyance multiple times, in Fishman Island, in Dressrosa, and recently in Wano. Just pause, and resume when you're ready. You'll enjoy it so much more!!!!!
The strength of one piece imo is that all emotions are tapped into. It's goofy as hell, but it will also make you cry, make you hyped, angry, laugh you ass off etc. But most importantly, it's a journey. People trying to "rush the story to get where it's relevant" are completely missing the point : in OP, everything is relevant from start to finish. The journey here is what matters the most, as all the characters and locations (and there are a LOT) have a role, or bring something important to the table to make the protagonists grow and discover more about the world. If there is something OP is hands down the best at, it's world building. And damn OP's world is both fascinating, terrifying and hilarious all at the same time.
Usopp represents us. This is what I feel. One piece fan letter episode made it more clear. It got me thinking, Damn being usoop in one piece world would suck, especially when you dream of becoming a great warrior of the sea.
@@nicejokes7 exactly, usopp’s dream is something that he himself will be proud of, just like the other crewmates. Not all dreams have to necessarily be extreme. Will always defend usopp ‼️
Zoro is the most basic shonen fan pick for "favourite One Piece character". Like, there are Zoro fans that get the goofy appeal of the other characters and Zoro (his lack of direction and brain cells) but, I genuinely think this guy picked Zoro because he looks cool and fits that edgy style he prefers in other anime. If you look at Luffy for example, he's really badass too, he goofs around a lot but, knows when to actually get serious. The fact that he's so carefree is what makes him cool. As for Usopp, he's funny af and the most useful member of the team up until "?" joins the crew.
Okay bro, the reason most Zoro fans like him is not just because he's badass, like come on, do I really need to explain? He's basically Luffy but more badass, he's the literal combination of goofy and serious. There is so much dept to his character.
And about usopp, the hate he gets is justified considering he is below episode 300, usopp then was the weakest, did not show any sign of improvement, fought with his captain. He was a drag back then.
@@Justawesome1 Usopp created Nami's weapon, kept fixing the ship, painted the flag, created Condoriano (the best strawhat member) and managed to actually deal damage to Luffy (despite being severely wounded), was the only one to fight for the Merry, etc. I admit I was annoyed with him during that Merry situation too but, in hindsight he was doing the right thing, even if he knew it didn't make logical sense.
@@Justawesome1 Nah, I get that, I like Zoro too, it's just sort of annoying when he's just picked because he's the badass one. Basically everyone who gets into One Piece after watching Naruto or something like that, picks Zoro because they think he's the least goofy one.
The problem with the Skypeia arc is only in the Anime. The main problem in the One Piece anime is the pacing, but Skypia is one of the first major arcs that is affected by this problem. I always recommend reading it then watching (I've done both)
Without spoiling. Smoker is still relevant to the story and you still se him quite a bit. Not so much you get bored, but every time you see him it’s like. “Oooooh, he is here!?”
East Blue saga originally aired 1999 and finished in 2001. Water 7 saga aired 2005 and fished in 2007. Every Saga you can watch the improvement in technology and animation.
All I have to say is watch the subbed and pay attention to what’s happening in the arcs like idk how you missed the amazing writing in east blue but don’t watch one piece with the same mindset you watch Naruto and dragon ball bc it’s way more complex than those series even bleach the writing not close to one piece so rlly pay attention bc every arc matters.
The manga doesnt have the pacing issues - its way better - its because of the studio who animated it - unlike most animes one piece isnt seasonal its got an old studio animating it doing weekly - that being said its getting a modern seasonal anime remake by WIT studio!!!
The Japanese VA for Usopp is one of my favorites in the show, and definitely elevates his character. The English VA just doesn't hit those comedic notes. The same can be said for a lot of the characters. Sanji is very suave in Japanese. In the dub he sounds like the "hero" character. And don't get me started on Luffy.....Luffy's Japanese VA is a legend. Brings so much to the character it's insane. She has ridiculous range. I'll occasionally switch on the dub to see if it's gotten any better in hundreds of episodes, and it doesn't......
They joke about death because they are willing to die to chase their dreams. Logtown is a good example of this when luffy is about to be executed and declared he would be king of the pirates
I started one piece with my son after finishing Naruto and kimetsu, we are just up at Skype ia floating island stufff and we love the straw hats, and their adventures…
people who only started watching one piece now often forget that the anime is 25 years old it will not be as good as new generation anime at the beginning but when you catch up it'll be so worth it
Congrats on your foray, not just into One Piece, but from the sound of it with your description of your experience with CSM and Dandadan, into absurdism as a whole. Absurdist fictions are great, especially because, imo, unlike with the serious, dark, maybe even grimdark stuff (similar to Berserk or Vinland), when you read an absurdist story you're less primed for the dark and serious undertones, so they take you by surprise and can impact you harder (eg Dandadan ep 7. Fkg ep7 man, still hit me like a mf semitruck even though I've already read the manga and already knew what was coming). I like both though, and I'm glad you now seem to do too.
I was in a sorta similar position a few months ago. The length of one piece was never intimidating because I can do long commitments. Shit I play MMORPGs, i enjoying being "in for the long haul". But similarly to you I thought it LOOKED too stupid and goofy and I would never be able to get into something this bad looking. Then I started it... and now I'm like 500 episodes deep and holy shit this has no right to be this consistently good... but it is.
I've noticed a pattern: usually the people that starts the anime and think "oh the art is charming", "I love luffy, has a strange charisma", "I love Zoro, the sword in the mouth is so goofy" are the ones who eventually love Skypeia, Usopp, the stupid fights and the big twist. And the people who start the anime and think "uggh, weird style, dated animation", "I hate Luffy, so annoying", "I love Zoro, the sword in the mouth is so cool" are the ones who eventually struggle with Skypeia, Usopp, Foxy, the big twist, etc. And consume One Piece running to a destination (that doesn't exist yet). Of course everyone can like and dislike anything, there's not such a thing as "true fans". But I noticed this pattern and never fails.
@Yungblut yeah, i think the latter group is usually used to other battle shonen, and although OP is one too, the way so many characters have their own goals and ambitions, how consistent they are with their characters and the way they shape the world they live in is in another level. Some people just want to see cool fights. They hate Usopp even though his first instinct of running away would be the first instinct of literally everyone irl, and they ignore how he always overcomes it for the sake of those he cherishes. Not only that, the way the story progresses is so cohesive. In OP, we want to see Luffy achieve his dream and then become King of the pirates, we want to see Robin learn about the true history, Zoro become the best swordsman, Nami make her world map, Usopp become a brave warrior, Sanji find the all blue, Chopper become a doctor capable of curing any illness, Franky circumnavigate with Sunny, Brook meet Laboon, Jimbei see a world in which fishfolk have their place. The villains they fight in the story, even if they were invented in the middle of it, feel like they belong. Naruto, Bleach an Dragon Ball for example are cool stories with cool looking fights but if the authors had decided to finish, they'd have multiple points where it would make sense to end. Many villains come out of nowhere just to be the next big bad and continue the story. Sometimes it kinda works, sometimes it doesn't. Not only that, so many secondary characters end up lagging behind and not having good development, and in stories where fighting is the main selling point, the characters become irrelevant. In OP, even if the frew is not all fighters, they all have their place and part of the drive of being stronger is so they can protect each other because they go together, that's a non negotiable. Two other manga I also loved are FMA and Frieren. The characters have clear goals, the characters and world feel alive, and the moments where you understand the characters' actions can be so beautiful. OP shines because it does that in a larger scale with quality
@@oznek_m One Piece is not a battle shonen, is an adventure shonen. Everything you said later proves that. I think part of this kind of perception some people have, is because they're going into the series thinking that is about fights when it isn't.
@Luz-Co oh yeah, i just didn't want to open this can of worms. Some people argue it is, some argue it isn't, and some argue it's primarily an adventure but also a battle shonen. Hell, some people argue whether Attack on Titan is a battle shonen or not

the fact that's the X on Vivi and the crew hand is just not for the emotion , its used again in the recently chapter that make the story telling is even more crazy
Naruto-Sasuke's friendship was toxic, Luffy-Usopp's is nothing like that. Also, IMO Naruto had many people who were infinitely better friends than Sasuke ever was - Sakura, Sai, Shikamaru, Gara, Hinata come to mind.

First of all, welcome to the community. It is a long ride and you or not there yet. What I do think is that the best one piece experience reading is. The pacing in the anime will get worse after the time skip. You must been watching dub for a reason and normally I say it is oke with other anime’s but with one piece I don’t think that is oke. But you are at least watching! Enjoy the journey !
Believe me when i say this , you are currently watching one of the greatest fictions ever created and you will understand it at some point. I am not sugar coating anything. Oda is writer who can make you cry for even a little ship .
After catching up to one piece years ago I went back to rewatch skypia because I didn’t like it during my first binge. I got to say I was wrong going back just has such a cozy feeling man
It might have a lot of goofiness but it also have a lot of "hard to watch" or "right in the feels" moments. I have some core memories of this show and most contain the scenes that impacted me the more, which are mostly very intense right in the feels moments. Just so you know, the creator himself Hoda, chose Luffy's dub voice. That's how he felt he will sound in English I honestly think it gets better, the dub I mean. It grows on you About Skypia I'm also a person who gets bored very fast very easily, that arc felt like it took forever to move, I liked the fights at the end and the villain, but it not in my top 5 arcs.

Skypeia has the same intrigue if not more than the arlong park and that is a highly rated arc.
That's what I said!! I remember reading Skypiea in comic when I was kid and I love everything about it. The final blow and the golden bell ringing got me in tears! I know everyone has different opinion but I'm just sad Skypiea didn't get the love and respect it deserved
same. whenever people get to skypeia and then say they don't like it, i'm just like, okay, time to exit the video.
I was in awe of Luffy ringing the bell for Noland and Kalgara's friendship so long ago. Their backstory was so compelling and extremely underrated
I get sad when Usopp stops using the dails...combine them with pop greens and he would lvl up
2:32 FINALLY someone is bringing up this point. "It's too long", while I can kind of get, isn't that good of an argument. If it's good and you're enjoying it, more should be a positive! "yeah, I was *that* anime kid" yeah we can tell zoro stan, also USSOPP AND SKYPIEA SLANDER? blud is a naruto fan through and through, clowning on one of the best arcs in the entire anime (although the pacing complaint is 1000% deserved) and stanning the edgy character with *generic shonen protagonist* energy ;-;
Arlong didn't just want more rights for fishman kind, he wanted all rights stripped from humans too.
People who only watch animes for their flashy fight scenes are so simplistic . If you say you're going to watch one piece you need to drop that view and look at one piece newly as something else . Its as if your not even trying to properly giving it an actual chance bar from the fight scenes. You might as well not just watch it
Wasn't expecting anything more from someone who is a Naruto fan
its interesting how similar all these dbz naruto type fans who get into one piece reluctantly have the same opinions: zoro cool skypea more like skippia and so on. just an observation
I don't want the story to have "noticeable progress" I want to go with Luffy to the sky to fool around
literally. People just over look the details and they only look forward to the fights it’s so frustrating
Have fun man your gonna be here for a long ass time but it’s gonna be worth it
Hell yeah!
"Omg the characters look so goofy"
Have you figured out that thats the point of the show?
Sounds more like a One Piece anime-only/anime-first fan.
The moment "We Are" in english started playing I died a bit inside
As someone who started one piece a few months back, and am now on 1050s. Makes me remember the good times when everything was simpler, and OP fans know what I mean by “SIMPLIER.”
I wish you luck on your trek across the sea!

I always recommend reading it then watching (I've done both)
When nothing happens is one of the most badass coolest moments in anime, I don't remember renji doing anything that cool

In my humble opinion: jaya is a top5 arc. Its such a good setup to skypea and stuff to come.
REAL PLS WHY ARE PEOPLE SO BLINDED BY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FIGHTS??
11:18 what every new One Piece fan would say with each arc LOL , dude you will say that with every new arc trust us.
Yhis guy is like them jjk guys. Choreography over anything.
I started one piece with my son after finishing Naruto and kimetsu, we are just up at Skype ia floating island stufff and we love the straw hats, and their adventures…

Remember, dont skip filler, special ep, and every movies👍🏻
I was in a sorta similar position a few months ago. The length of one piece was never intimidating because I can do long commitments. Shit I play MMORPGs, i enjoying being "in for the long haul". But similarly to you I thought it LOOKED too stupid and goofy and I would never be able to get into something this bad looking. Then I started it... and now I'm like 500 episodes deep and holy shit this has no right to be this consistently good... but it is.
I agree that the arc is long with the pacing, BUT it is improtant
I feel offended he only liked it after water seven, hates Usopp, hates Skypiea, didn't even mention Nami's "Help me" moment.

I have some core memories of this show and most contain the scenes that impacted me the more, which are mostly very intense right in the feels moments.
Just so you know, the creator himself Hoda, chose Luffy's dub voice. That's how he felt he will sound in English
I honestly think it gets better, the dub I mean. It grows on you
About Skypia I'm also a person who gets bored very fast very easily, that arc felt like it took forever to move, I liked the fights at the end and the villain, but it not in my top 5 arcs.
