It’s been a while since I touched the 101.. but if I’m not mistaken it’s pretty easy, like hold shift and then press the multiFX.. I have them setup like the 404, the left knob controls speed and the right knob is the repeater (don’t remember the name of the fx)
You can’t really “chop” samples, but you can trim your samples.. there’s no truncate function if I haven’t missed a firmware update, and if you load a big sample you can’t just duplicate that one over to a bunch of pads, you run out of memory pretty quick.. so that’s a con! I’ve chopped my samples on the computer and then assigned them to the pads.

Oh, that’s a tricky question. Both have their pros and cons. You have more control with the 101, and in my opinion, easier to get started with, but you can’t sample straight into the 101 like on the 404.. the 404 handles samples better, duplicate/truncate.. but it’s wonky to trim on both, slightly easier on the 404. Both are in the same price range, standalone, nice FX, and can run on batteries.. I think I would go with the 404 first.

Hey! These drums are imported if I’m not mistaken, but there’s 3000 sounds built-in including classics like 808, 909, 606 and more when it comes to drums, so you don’t need to import sounds unless you’re not finding the sounds/character you’re going for. 👊🏻

For instance, does this machine enable me to perform beats by the touch of the pads? Im looking for something that has built in drum samples already in each individual pad so I can just walk up to it and loop a beat behind my piano/guitar/voice. Will this work for that kind of thing? If you wanna perform and play beats + doing effects I think the SP404 is more suitable for that.. if the plan is to just play finished beats. If you on the other hand doing everything live it’s probably easier to make a drum sequence on the fly and also perform with the 101. I hope it made any sense 😬

I think I switched out the kick.. not sure, but the rest are from a “kit” in the 101. If you have a folder with your own drums, snares etc.. just import them to the SD card and import them to your project if you don’t find any stock sounds that fits.
Not super good. The pads have a fixed velocity, so you have to change that afterwards. I wouldn’t recommend the 101 for finger drumming, I would rather try to get my hands on the 404 MKII
@@ticketstomars absolutely, I’ve had a blast messing around with it. Quick and easy to lay down ideas and build from there + it’s a really nice “sound bank” with 3000 sounds built in if you wanna use it alongside other gear.

So i need some thing small on battaries to drum to practice on the go. At my current level I don’t need velocity. I know sp 404 but its too big for my current needs. And too professional. I want to improve my level and then go for 404 or mpc live in a year or so
Unfortunately you can’t sample into the 101, not like that.. you can sample into it via the computer to a looper track, but that’s another story. Absolutely, definitely something I could touch on 👊🏻

Du har fyra kanaler att jobba med och varje kanal har du instrument, såsom trummor, samplingar, bas och nåt mer.. sen jobbar du fram klipp för de olika instrumenten/kanalerna.. jag brukar inte dyka så mycket i menyerna, slänger mina samplingar i en ”mute group” och sen kör jag bara.
They’re similar but different.. but you lack the sampling capability in the 101, but you can definitely make beats with it and it has a bunch of similar fx like the 404.

Can you chop inside of the MC101 or do you have to chop outside of the unit then assign the chops to the pad?

“Gwen mccrae - love without sex”.. and the simplest way to find similar samples is to open up an artist on Spotify and check for similar artists.
