If you're struggling breathing cover your mouth with a Merino Wool buff, it will heat up the air before it hits your lungs, it makes a big difference. A wee tip from an asthmatic. Have you been tested for asthma, you may have cough variant asthma, not all asthmatic have a wheeze.
So sorry to hear about your health issues and hope you'll be fully recovered soon, Juliet. Regarding your ride during the video... I've never imagined that it got so busy and crowded on the roads and trails in the English countryside. I can't imagine enjoying the experience of riding or walking in that hoard of humanity!
Sorry to hear about your illnesses Juliet but very pleased to hear your on the mend and look forward to seeing more of your adventures in 2023 😎. Steve & Anne IOW.
Lived in Sheffield for over 20 years and fell in love with the Peaks. Did a 160kms gravel loop last year and climbed your decent. Does get rammed but such an epic place. Good luck with your recovery 🙂
Clove of garlic crushed on a saucer with the back of a spoon. Smoother in honey. Down the hatch. Best cure and preventative measure for winter coughs. I've been out every day (cycle to work) and no chest problems to report. Good luck. You have nothing to loose.
Never realised how bad things were with your health, sorry. I know the joy of going out for the first ride after a lay up! I was buzzing for ages👍 Welcome back Juliet🤩🤘🏼
Great to see you enjoying being back on a bike 😁 The UK's population has increased quite a lot in recent times, sadly there hasn't been an increase in beauty spots so overcrowding will be norm I guess, the car parks for the popular walks close to me all fill up quickly on a weekend.
Glad you're feeling a bit better, takes some time to fully recover after what you've suffered. Take it steady in Rwanda and enjoy the ride. Speedy recovery.
thanks for sharing, I've been struggling with minor health issues for a while now (including covid) and all I want to do is train, but I get nowhere. so it's good to see that I'm not completely alone! glad you seem to be doing better!
Good luck getting back on track, Juliet. I think Juliana has the right idea regarding approach to Ultra in Rwanda. Sometimes planning fitness and outcomes seems to be a setup for disaster and disappointment. Been there, done that. For me, it's a constant cycle of assessing and adapting to whatever life throws at me. I hope you rebound soon and have a Happy New Year!
Glad you're on the mend, I've missed the videos. Love it when you film in Derbyshire as I live close to where you are now and know all the roads and trails!😁 Keep up the good work 😎
Hi Juliet, Happy New Year, welcome back lovely to see you out and riding. Take it easy on yourself to start with then build. I'm sure Rwanda will be what ever it will be and just give it a go, have fun. We hope to see the results on UA-cam in due course. Take care of yourself.
Hope you fully recover soon. I have heard of many folks that have been through something similar, with viral infections that have left them with hacking coughs for months. I am not surprised that you have not put out any videos but it’s been good to see your occasional IG posts. Enjoy The Peaks and make the most of Rwanda.
Is watching your videos contagious?! Because I had COVID right at Christmas too, tested negative a week later, rode the trainer briefly for 2 days, then came down with another respiratory bug! No significant riding in the past 2 weeks, so I understand the frustration. Happy to see you outside finally enjoying a ride! Hopefully, that is contagious, as well 😁
Happy new year my riding mates and I have all had similar cough snot bug 🐞 we had a first ride yesterday for three week in pouring rain but at least we were out. Days rest and we are off night riding tomorrow but do take it easy these virus 🦠 are nasty.
I got out of Burbage sharpish after saying hi. Quickest bite to eat and then marched over to the bog of an empty Hawkshead Moor. Fingers crossed for a quick return to health and epic adventuring.
I tried going out on the backend of an ear infection once...totally messed me up. Couldn't maintain a quarter of the speed I was usually able to and my heart was absolutely racing. Just make sure you're rid of stuff properly before placing any expectations on yourself.
I feel your pain. I did a big race (Tour de Tucson in AZ) 102 miles. Race was before thanksgiving and trained and did ok. Then got stomach flu over thanksgiving, head cold after thanksgiving, and strep throat over Christmas. Had such big plans for Christmas on the bike. I think I’m back to 100%. Just trying to get my motivation back to get back on the bike. Sickness is making me gun shy tbh and being a teacher around sick kids doesn’t help. Hope you feel better soon.
Struck down twice since the start of december, tried climbing back on the bike and it set me back again, ... take it easy for a few more days. Long slow rides, and especially ones with climbs!!!! add stress of some sort and your body is still obviously 'coping' with the stress of the virus.... all types of stress just compound.... we all do it... just give your body time, it is the quickest way to recover, frustrating as hell, but otherwise you leave yourself open to the next thing floating around. It's the same as training, the bigger the block the more the recovery!! ( We all know this I know, just hard to implement)
Happy New Year! I am glad you have finally started to feel better. I live in Pennsylvania now but I grew up in Cheshire and used to ride in the Peak District all of the time. My rides were all on the road though. This was a great video Juliet. That was a mad amount of people.
I'm so sorry you're having these issues. Covid-19 hit me in exactly this way in April of 2020. I wish you a recovery. The only thing that has helped with the energy levels was low dose Naltrexone, 4.5 mg. I have extensive post-covid recovery experience and have been to the University of North Carolina covid recovery clinic. Send me a message if you want some advice. I still use an albuterol inhaler to this day.
Glad you are on the mend. Happy New Year to you and your family. You should head to some place that has fat bike winter riding in the snow. I would love to see a video like that from you. Cheers from eastern Canada.🤘
Happy New Year J and wishing you a speedy recovery. I'm pretty passed off too as I was so looking forward to seeing footage of your Andes Ultra having spent some time living and travelling in South America in the 90s and camping and hiking in the Andes too. Hope you manage to reschedule for next year perhaps. I've had a similar chesty cough recently and empathise with the whole being knackered from constant coughing and then trying to ride it off. Is the Juliana you speak of the legendary Juliana Bűhring by any chance? What a partnership that would be! Get well soon and keep on keeping on in 2023. You rock and have kept me smiling and positive in what has been my own annus horribilis.
What a pain, I have been struggling with a hacking cough for 10 days now. Went outdoors for the first time yesterday avoiding hills as much as possible (certainly didn't climb The Dale). I was really weak and felt worse for the rest of the day. Hope you are through the worst and can get back to training.
Sorry to hear that. I actually still feel pretty crap but I’m sat on the runway at Bristol airport ready for a few warm days in Lanzarote so hopefully that will help
Recovery from illness takes time. Particularly respiratory things. Golden rule is get well before you start stressing the heart, lungs and nervous system. Otherwise it can drag on. Rest, sleep, eat whole foods and drink water!😢
Sorry to hear about your luck. Sounds similar to mine though, 5 weeks to get over the cough the first time (Sept), 3 weeks the second time (Nov), and then get a head cold last week... Been a tough last qtr of the year for many. Glad you are starting to feel better, me too :)
Just move and easy, the junk will come up, I find that whole milk is a good idea in general , cup in the morning. The milk binds lung cheese and allows you spit it out. Also great fats and nutrients you need. Cheers
I love your videos, F'ing ans Jeffing, you're a female version of me!😂 I had severe COVID early 2020, 4 months, and in June July, whenever, when the lockdown let us out, I went for a 50mile ride and this vid, reminded me of how I felt. Slowly, you're gonna get back to full fitness, especially as the weather improves. I'm 56, and notice that my recovery takes longer than ever. Keep the vids coming, they're great. Belated happy new year. Good luck for 2023. Andy. 👍
Now that I’m older, I get cold easier. I always wear a neck warmer in the cold now. That was an ridiculous amount of people on the trails.Happy New Year
Glad to hear you're feeling better, even if not fully race fit yet. I can see why you love the peak district, looks amazing. I'll have to visit there sometime 😀
Ah that sucks being ill and missing the ultra. I feel your pain, we'd booked a family ski holiday in the Alps in December and had to cancel but we all came down with a sickness virus. Hope you recover quickly and can make it to Rwanda!
I really hope you are completely better very soon. You're my fave cyclist YT person. Very, very concerning that so many people are having b2b illness . I've escaped (fingers crossed) since I had covid back in March (which wasn't bad; I was back out on my bike in several days.57, no vaccine, possibly irrelevant, just for info). But there's the whole winter to survive! Onwards, and upwards! Take care.
You are risking a lot IMHO after a laryngitis. I would try to stay at an indoor trainer if i were you. Current wind temperature over here is very cold to risk a relapse. Treat yourself, get stronger and take care! Have a jolly good year!
@@JulietElliottsChannel Have a look at the weather at Tavira - Algarve - Portugal. It's a great place to practice, not so much mountains if you stay along the Portuguese coast, and you can visit Gibraltar which is part of the United Kingdom! (350km distance)
Hope the cough clears up and you can finally get back to doing what you love. On the plus side instead of trying to race round Rwanda perhaps you can get to enjoy it more as there's no pressure to race.
Life is lumpy. All you can do is roll with what is in front of you. Enjoy Rwanda and roll with an amazing experience that you can share and inspire others with. However, take it steady with your health and remember you can always do it another time. 👍
So incredibly sorry to hear that you've been through such aches and pains this past few months. As much as we all would want to see more action from you I'd still recommend you to tread carefully and settle for short outings; Maybe consider some alternative vlog ideas or chatty videos for a while! Those are always very much appreciated 😄 And if you genuinely intend to ride an ultra in Rwanda 🇷🇼 in 30 days time well, I guess there's no stopping you anyway 😁 But I'd rather stay home for a little longer if I were you really, just so you feel better. Please be well Juliet, get well soon 😊🙂 =]
Juliet, you're a treasure. Don't feel you have to push yourself too hard to make up for lost time due to your recent illnesses. The fitness will come back in time. Side note: I listen to Leonard Lee a lot. He's a cameraman by trade if I'm not mistaken, and recently, he's been using a 360 deg. stick to film himself while riding. It allows him to talk, breathe, and steer, all at the same time. Have you considered using one as well? It could save your arm strength for more important things - like holding the bars with both hands. Maybe it's the Uncle in me, but I fear for your safety when you film yourself riding over rough terrain. Good luck in Rwanda.
Sounds like you had at least 2 of the really bad things going around. Congrats on getting out and around again! Please take it slow and be reasonable about your recovery.. My performance is still shot after a minor bout with covid in June.
Hey bad luck comes along. One thought is have you got whooping cough. Many GPs just miss this, plus Bordatella pertussis. It can be chronic with non productive cough and affect the heart which may explain you low power output.
Hey Juliet Stoked to see you back on the bike and smiling Also dissclaimer - I’m not a Dr but I did a Google search on anti virus cos had heard the word once and saw that there are anti viral medicines so that maybe helpful to ask a Dr about if you ever get an annoying virus again. Also that trail in the Peak District looks sweet! Defo recon an Mtb versus gravel run would be ace :)
Think everyones suffered or suffering from that horrible endless chesty cough right now. Spent boxing day onwards pulling every rib and muscle in my chest coughing !!!! Jeez.. Hope your feelin better soon 👊🚲
Looks like the tops from Owler bar looking over to Sheff....why do I get the feeling you were from / based in Baslow ? I lived in Chesterfield and rode all that area to death by Mtb for 14 years loooks so familiar . Need to get back there. Hope you feel beter. Dont push it let your body heal.
@@JulietElliottsChannel Still coughing quite a bit but managed a bit of a run and the gym yesterday, so fingers crossed. Its been a bad year for bugs hasn't it? Hope you are fully ok now?
For the second year running i am recovering from having Covid at the start of Dec. Last year it took till April/May until i felt 100%. Back out running Xmas daay this year after 4 weeks of illness andhopefully getting better quicker. so look after your self and take your time but great to see you back. Enjoy the ride.
Glad you are feeling better and a great inspiring video. I am feeling exactly the same, multiple flu/chest junk through all of December and only just starting to get back into shape. Looking forward to a ride Sunday. Take care! :)
Juliette, get well first kid! I am feeling your pain - in your chest, your lungs and the legs! Not sure a winter's ride is what you really need!? Maybe some turbo training done in the sunshine outside. You have been a UK cycling celeb for 20 years. More recently a UA-cam star & cycling influencer! You have put out superb and varied content over many years now which must have received millions of views! With so many young people, especially young girls/women watching your content; like it or not - you are a role model for all of your followers and the greater cycling community. So, Juliette.... Please put a bell on your bike to let people know you're coming! People get used to hearing a cycling bell they automatically move to the side. It is a cyclist's job to let walkers and other cyclists know you are there! And, you are a professional cyclist! No.2. please put some lights on your bike! Every single cyclist should use bike lights for every single ride. Daytime bike lights are an absolute essential! They alert other road users so much further in advance than if you don't use them! As an influencer - it is up to guys like you to push the message of safety in all areas of cycling. A bell is an must for every single cyclist, no matter what bike you're riding. You can let other trail users much further in advance that you are coming. Walkers get pissed off because cyclists either don't let them know or let them know when they are within 10m. That's just a piss take and leads to hatred of cyclists. The UK's hatred for cyclists doesn't need any more fuel for their fire! And using daytime bike lights should become a must for every single cyclist. Any adult not using daytime lights needs to have a firm talking to! The difference in ability to see oncoming riders for drivers is off the charts! Again, as a role model - YOU using lights during the daytime, I guarantee you will save the lives of many cyclists! And will spread the word through other influencers who will do the same. It is the underlying messages that professionals like yourselves send that really makes the difference! Rant over! Love love Love your content, but get well first, girl. x Be well.
Probably much more exciting descending lower Burbage on the gravel regardless of speed to be honest 😜. Currently I'm also in the grip of a nasty cough cold virus thing. Feels far worse than covid tbh 🤧. Been away from the bike for a couple of weeks and now not sure when I'm going to be back on it. Bloody rubbish. Good luck with Rwanda 😎👍
I thought you hadn't been posting for a bit, and I have been watching less. You're too right about crowds in the Peak District. I was once unwise enough to go for a walk in Lathkill Dale on Easter Sunday. There were hundreds of people literally everywhere and I got stuck behind a seemingly endless crocodile of elderly people seemingly doing a mass audition for a remake of One Foot in the Grave. The path was narrow and they weren't very keen on letting me past but pass I did and eventually I reached the front. Then I got a patronising and condescending lecture from the Walks Leader who did not recognise that I wasn't in his party and he prattled on about walking in single file and not overtaking the Walks Leader. UA-cam probably wouldn't like me say what I said to him, but Ramblers!!! The same everywhere. They are just as bad in my town. I bet they all read the Mail or Express, watch CountryFile and vote Conservative. And hate cyclists.
It’s busy in the Peak District often but how do you think those of us who call it home feel? There’s still no need for the sort of insulting descriptions you give though it is exactly the sort of attitude that makes people with other recreational pastimes dislike cyclists and other users. Just share!
Get well soon ... I have to laugh at the self entitled walkers who you pass and then you catch them turning around to no doubt moan as you go past them lol... seen a few in the rear of the picture 🤣👍

Also dissclaimer - I’m not a Dr but I did a Google search on anti virus cos had heard the word once and saw that there are anti viral medicines so that maybe helpful to ask a Dr about if you ever get an annoying virus again.
Hope you’re feeling better!
@@JulietElliottsChannel pretty mych as you are... Much better, back out on the bike but coughin.... 👌
Back to back illness since Sept. for me too, I'm there with ya Juliet! Hard to get those base miles back!
Since September last year I have had 6 cold viruses and just recently covid. It’s knackered my training completely! 😳
So sorry to hear that! Hope you’re back to full health soon
@@JulietElliottsChannel Still coughing quite a bit but managed a bit of a run and the gym yesterday, so fingers crossed. Its been a bad year for bugs hasn't it? Hope you are fully ok now?
I still don’t feel as strong as I used to but at least I’m riding lots
@@JulietElliottsChannel It'll come back in time. Good you are getting out now. I'm hoping to this weekend.
For the second year running i am recovering from having Covid at the start of Dec. Last year it took till April/May until i felt 100%. Back out running Xmas daay this year after 4 weeks of illness andhopefully getting better quicker. so look after your self and take your time but great to see you back. Enjoy the ride.
You can’t beat Hathersage gravel, unless you hate hills that is
Glad you are feeling better and a great inspiring video. I am feeling exactly the same, multiple flu/chest junk through all of December and only just starting to get back into shape. Looking forward to a ride Sunday. Take care! :)
Take it easy, we can wait until you're fully recovered 😍
Rant over!
Love love Love your content, but get well first, girl. x
Be well.
Get well soon. Please keep it zone 1 ❤ I also understand why my auntie goes out walking 6am. To avoid people even in winter 🥶
Thank you, I will. So true!
Covid had my coughing for 3months. I was coughing blood for a couple weeks. I'm just now feeling like I can use my full lung capacity
Go to Rwanda and do exactly as she says, enjoy it for what it is
I thought you hadn't been posting for a bit, and I have been watching less.
Just share!
You sound identical to me apart from the COVID. Had back to back viruses, lost voice, almost 8 weeks of it.
Sorry to hear that. Hope you’re feeling better
Im Not Used To Sharing 🚀

Fox at 1:55 ?
Thats mental all the people. I take it you dont rate Pedelad kit that highly? Keep the videos coming. cheers
M o r n i n g ! !
Get well soon ... I have to laugh at the self entitled walkers who you pass and then you catch them turning around to no doubt moan as you go past them lol... seen a few in the rear of the picture 🤣👍
