    BUDDYMOON DAY 335/1000 (VLOG 81)
After spending a week in Karachi, Pakistan, it was time for us to leave for a new city in Pakistan called, Lahore. Lahore is further north and close to the Wagha-Attari border, the only international border between Pakistan and India.
We headed to Lahore via plane, as a bus ride would take 16 hours, and seeing that we are only spending 2 weeks in Pakistan this would take too much time. The Cheapest flight to Lahore from Karachi was with Air Blue, which was about $80 per person for a one-way ticket.
Once we arrived in Lahore, we called a taxi using the Careem app. This app is by far the best when looking for transport in Pakistan. Once getting the taxi at Allama Iqbal International Airport, we travelled through an area called CANTT and this is where things started to get a little uneasy.
We were stopped by the army as they wanted to see our passports. We handed them over (Keeping in mind that we had ALL the correct documents in order to be in Pakistan). After exchanging a few words, we had to give our passports to another officer who decided to KEEP our passports... and this is when we began to panic!! And to make matters worse, we had no idea what was happening as nobody could really speak English.
At this point, we were told to leave with the taxi while the army kept our passports. This was a big NO for us, we didn't want to leave our passports! But what choice did we actually have? Our Careem driver then explained to us that the area we were driving through is CANTT, meaning that this area was part of the military, and tourists are not allowed there. The driver had to make a U-turn to get out of the area, and once we got back to the military checkpoint, they return our passports.
It's moments like these where you become worried about what's happening due to the language barrier, but we also understand that the army is just protecting the area in order to make sure it's safe. We want Pakistan to be a safe place, not only for its people but for tourists as well.

There're army artillery there, not only the museum, along with army residences and some offices. That's an area designated for army. And no country allows others to go through the army areas.
Don't act stupid. No army designated in any country are open to locals or foreigners.
But yes it's Pakistan, so it's open for public normally.
Visit another country and try roaming freely in their high security army designated areas.

Guys, you have misinterpreted a few things here. The route from Lahore airport to the Gulberg area takes you through the army cantonment area. They check every vehicle going through for security reasons. They have always done it but more during heightened security times. They are not doing it to intimidate you -- only checking. Secondly, the installation you noticed with helicopters is just a museum (Army Museum) and not a "base camp" or a military base. Cantonments are the relics from the British era.

@@Prajwal88Rai I tend to not bother myself with politics much so I don't know much of what is going on. But if anyone is trying to lessen the power of the Army, that's a good thing as the Army currently has too much political power and owns many businesses in a not so legal way, diverting military funds to said businesses. Having the army removed from politics and to be more professionalized will be a great thing for Pakistan as it would make the political situation a bit more stable and slightly help with expenditure.

As a citizen of Pakistan, I would like to explain the situation regarding the military areas that are currently off-limits to tourists. Unfortunately, in recent times, terrorist groups have targeted military personnel in Pakistan, which has prompted the government to take strict security measures to protect its armed forces.
These measures include restricting access to certain military areas that may be vulnerable to attacks. While we understand that this may inconvenience tourists who wish to visit these areas, we believe that the safety of our military personnel is of utmost importance.
We want to assure tourists that Pakistan is a beautiful country with many attractions and cultural sites that are still accessible to them. Our government and security forces are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all citizens and visitors to our country.
We urge tourists to cooperate with the security personnel and adhere to their instructions when visiting Pakistan. By doing so, they will not only ensure their own safety but also contribute to the overall security of the country.
We hope that tourists will continue to visit Pakistan and experience its rich culture and hospitality while keeping in mind the security situation and cooperating with the authorities to make their trip safe and enjoyable.

When embassy give you visa they got different stamps. The army check post that person checked the stamp on ur passport and due to that there was not the stamped with allowed foreigners to pass through cantt area that’s why he asked ur driver to take other road and do not go through the cantt area.

A- the basecamp you saw is actually Army museum. B- Once we enter Cantt area there is a checkpost and the army is bound to check whoever they can. The foreigner are alowed to enter Cantt area but as your cab driver took advantage of this by driving you long way to make money as it is Uber careem obviously.
If you spend money on even a 3-4 star hotel instead of 5 star, you get amazing quality services. Try Parklane, Regency Inn, Felattis etc.
