Last night, I saw Shinedown live and they dedicated this song to Prince. Definitely a beautiful moment with all of the lighters, the flashlights on everyone's phone, and the singing of the crowd.
this song... I tear up every time. I sang this song to my son from the time he was born and I still do and he's nine. he hates it now but I have never once been able to get through all the lyrics without my voice cracking. this song will always embody everything I ever wanted for him and it's just an amazing song at that.
Omg I just had a moment straight out of the movies. My biology teacher just gave a very passionate speech on life and hope and I had this song playing. I think I'm gonna cry.
@@otofu4013 Man I just gotta say Deftones fans HATE Shinedown lol, if you go to the comments on their cover of simple man like every 3rd comment is "shinedown sucks ass"
My mom had passed from brain cancer when I was 9 years old. I never got closure or a last word from her. Every time I hear this song it makes me cry cause it makes me feel like this is what she would say to me.
Told my son that this song was from me to him and my other 2 boys. He learned to play it on his guitar and now he plays while I sing along. A great memory I will leave him with. One day I won't be here and I want my sons to know that I love them from up above!!
IM A 32YR OLD BROTHER STRAIGHT FROM THE GUTTA N THIS IS MY FAVORITE RECORD OF ALLLLLLL TIME POINT BLANK (.)!!!!!!! LYNARD SKYNARD THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE HEART!!!!! N SHINEDOWN EXCELLENT JOB ON THE COVER!!!!
I love this song so much, but man how much does it hurt... to know I failed my mother and i cant help but to fail.. I'm trying my hardest, I love you momma.. forever
This song represents my life and everything around it. It also helps me when I'm feeling down and out. I guess you could say I'm connected to this song in a way..
I was hearing it and had to search it out on the video. I was looking in the video to see who replied about it. I don't see how some people didn't realize it.
I know Shinedown isn't the first band to play this song, but in my mind they are the best, they brought this song to it's ultamit evolution, & it is beautiful, & it sings to me, this song is me, I strive to be a simple kind of man, I live with what I love, & understand, I am all that I am, & nothing less, if I am any more it happens when the ocasion calls for it, or when I choose to be, but I am never any less then my true self.
I love this song! I sang it to my son when he was a little boy,and i still do ,He is 29 now and he is awesome ,he Definitely did make his momma very proud ,He has a woman that loves him ,And two goodlooking sons .Lynyrd skynyrd is my Favorite of alltime .Shinedown does a kick ass version. See son you Are still mommas boy,My only son.
If you dislike this song you have no taste in music and don't appreciate what real talent is, great song, great lyrics, and by far the best version of the song
This song was my five year old nephews favorite song, they played this at his funeral along with a slide show, alomost 2 years& i miss him everyday, rest heavenly tayden kaylor.
I never thought in my life that someone could do as good as Lynyrd Skynyrd on this song! But when I heard Shinedown do it for the first time I was blown away! I'll always bs Skynyrd fan but ya'll guys rocked it out..great job ya'll 💀
Some people prefer the simpler, acoustic sound. Plus the singer of this versiom sung the song with a great deal of power - some people like that vocal style.
My mom dedicated this song to my brother, him and her were really close. I always love to listen to this song to calm down. If I have a son I'll dedicate it to him. This song says alot.
Last summer Brent Smith and Zack Myers performed at a small bar (I was lucky enough to be friends with the owner) in town (acoustic set), they did 45, second chance, and a few other of the bands songs acoustically...they were outstanding, but when they did Simple Man, it simply blew me away...I love lynyrd skynyrd, but that's the most inspiring and heartfelt version I've ever heard...keep on rocking it out Shinedown.
I know it may be weird, but I have sing this song to my son from the first day I got to hold him. He is ten now and never ones has told me he is sick of it. Even when he is not home for a night he will call before bed time and have me sing it to him. I love my son so much. But today is about my daugther she will be 15 today. I am only 34 and about to have a 15 yr old. The song I have for her is from Mudvayne well and one from tool.
+Ser Foxi there's a lot more to the song than just the vocals. The original had such a great mix of instrumentation that Shinedown left out completely in favor of a dulled-down acoustic. In that sense, the Shinedown version is far more dull. Personally I think Ronnie Van Zant's vocals fit the song better as well. Brent sings it far too grunge-y.
My uncle was one of my closest family members and on 2016 the day after Christmas he passed away on his kitchen floor and I miss him so much and this song really reminds me of him... This song was played for half of his Funeral... He was the best uncle I could ever have
I'll be honest it's a good cover, but the music is lacking. And occasionally the vocalist goes a little RnB. It sounds awesome when he's screaming, you can feel the power and emotion, but when he does those little vocal runs, it takes away from that. And the song needs the backing instruments, acoustic all the way through is way too bland
I don't know man. This one has some gains over the original, and the original has gains over this. I say they're equal. I hate covers, but not this one!
EchoMarauder I beg to differ. This is one of those rare cases where the cover is actually better. I hold no bias against remakes; if it sounds better then it sounds better. imho of course.
THERE IS NO BAD VERSION OF THIS SONG! MY SON LIVES ON IN EVERY WORD! HE WAS A TRUE SIMPLE MAN AND LEFT HERE BECAUSE THE WORLD WOULDN'T LET HIM BE ONE. PARTY ON ANTHONY!
i can't listen to this song without crying. this was my uncles favorite song and when he died a few years back it was played at his funeral. i dissolve to tears when i even see the name of this
As I was in the car this evening, my boyfriend was driving and we were singing this together, he and i looked at each other as we both said we love this song. He put his hand on my belly as the second verse started (I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant with our son) as it ended we both looked at each other teary eyed and just acknowledged that this song now has an entirely different meaning to us now.
this song takes you back. No matter the age, the feeling of your mother actully singing this song to you is present when you listen to it. Or is that just me? Anyway, this song is great, i love it, and i love sleep, i'm tired, don't msgn me about this comment because i have no idea what i'm saying anymore. BOOGERBOOTY!!!!!
Mom passed 7 years ago. Been trying to live my life in a way she would be proud of. Miss you mom. Love this song
Hey bro hope your alright man
My mom passed away too. Everytime I hear this song, I think of her. Digital hugs bro.
I had to go through the same 2 years ago, and can't not drop a tear when hearing this, love to wherever you are now, stranger.
RIP to your mom brotha
Wow, that must have been a hard time for you. I should be grateful that I never had to go through that pain. Best of luck to you 👍
My son's best friend created a DVD montage of pictures to this song for my son's funeral...he was 15....missing you Cody!
I am so very sorry for your loss ma'am
hugs to you!!
I sang this to my son when I was pregnant with him. He still smiles whenever I sing it to him now.

Move to texas. The good ol times replay here.
By far the BEST rendition of a Skynyrd song ever! Almost brings me to tears how beautiful this song is.
ConfederateTexan but it comes now where close to skynyrd
love the user name. Texan ... rt here
+ConfederateTexan I have a hard time telling the difference between them
I loved the song
+Henley Coyle are you kidding me? Listening to the vocals. They are completely different in sound.
this song should be played more on the radio specially these days
nouf mansor I actually hear it quite a bit. I think that's how I came across this in the first place.
Shinedown adding that beep at 1:10 was genius. It's symbolic for how computers are making us less simple.
+KupferudelWolf lol
you deserve a prize for your light taste of humor, it isn't the type that tries too hard or demands a laughter, it's the type that draws a smirk,
It's from the person who created this lyric video. It's an old Windows noise, not from Shinedown.
+Jorge Lorgeros It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's the joke going over your head. :P
+KupferudelWolf smh
I HAVE NO WORDS FOR THIS.
Ok.
David G i love it 😍
Panch Grinch ??😃
My Dad used to sing this song to me and my brothers to help us sleep. Or if we were sad he would sing it and and we would cheer up. :)
this song... I tear up every time. He's one hell of a vocalist.

Best version of this song. Can't get more genuine. Thanks Shinedown for kicking ass in studio and on stage
Omg I just had a moment straight out of the movies. My biology teacher just gave a very passionate speech on life and hope and I had this song playing. I think I'm gonna cry.
+Steven Asher My Chemistry teacher did that a couple times
This is by far the best cover of simple man I've ever heard. It's almost better than the original
+Dylan McElveen Excuse me but, the original was by who? 'cause I've heard this song by Deftones too
+Jorge Garcia Lynyrd Skynyrd
+Jon B thank you
@@otofu4013 Man I just gotta say Deftones fans HATE Shinedown lol, if you go to the comments on their cover of simple man like every 3rd comment is "shinedown sucks ass"

This is my favorite version of simple man
1:08 That Windows sound kills that part.
Haha I'm gonna redo this
Thanks making me aware of that everytime i listen... :/
Why did you have to post this...why did i have to read it.. now its all i hear
travis lang Lol, the truth had to come out….

This is the kind of band who can do a proper version of Simple Man
I dont know if this version was recorded onto a computer but i am hearing a background fuzz of some sort and it makes it so much more epic...

I love both versions, shinedown and lynyrd skynyrd

Hank Williams Jr does a great cover

***** well that makes sense deppression and schizophrenia
if you think your stressed now at 11 you might not makes it to 30 lol
The sheer amount of emotion he puts into this song deserves applause.
Better than the original.
I wouldn't go that far...
Ray Rashimo I would
But I wouldn't
Ray Rashimo I would
They're 2 different genres. Personally I like the original better, but Shinedown does good too. No doubt.
This is one of those rare songs, where the cover version is better than the original version.
true
Did you set a microphone on your keyboard when you recorded this? I can't figure out how somebody can get so many Windows sounds in a song.
i'm screaming i thought the same thing
Me to
I never thought in my life that someone could do as good as Lynyrd Skynyrd on this song! But when I heard Shinedown do it for the first time I was blown away! I'll always bs Skynyrd fan but ya'll guys rocked it out..great job ya'll 💀
That Windows XP sound at 1:08 :P
We played this song at my cousin's funeral, everyone was crying, even me... 😢
hunter o Played this song at my grandfather's
the shitty audio quality is actually what does it for me on this cover to be honest. i like it. love this version.
I agree. I cant find THIS EXACT copy anywhere. Its way different than the studio or acoustic versions, just more raw emotion
Google UA-cam downloader
This song makes me cry, hence there's so much feeling in it.
this tuggs my heart I want this song played at my wedding and funeral and I'm only 14
Love this version better
NEVER THOUGHT ID HEAR THIS DONE BETTER THAN LYNARD SKYNARD
I still haven't
you are fucking delusional. this song doesn't sound anywhere near as good as lynyrd skynyrds version
Apparently, people aren't allowed to have opinions anymore.
Not better different but in a good way
I agree with OP I think this rendition is better as well
I love this song so much! They played it at my Uncle Tim's funeral! I love you Big Buddy! 3
One of my favorite songs! Thanks for the lyrics=D Just made a cover on my channel let me know what you think!
Really nice job man! +1 sub
Really nice cover=)
Don't get me wrong I love me some Shinedown, but I don't understand how people think this is better than Skynyrd.
Some people prefer the simpler, acoustic sound. Plus the singer of this versiom sung the song with a great deal of power - some people like that vocal style.
I just like the simpler playing of it, and the passion in Brent's voice.
It's more passionate than the LS version
+Taco Man I like them both.
1:09- Massive windows "clunk" noise right in the track.
My mom dedicated this song to my brother, him and her were really close. I always love to listen to this song to calm down. If I have a son I'll dedicate it to him. This song says alot.
Ok the beep is at 1:10

I just heard it like WTF? Haha
+NuclearFoetus 87 its a windows noise.. whoever made this recorded it on his pc.. you can also hear him turn the volume up about half way through.
He is on the computer did you hear the typing at 0:50
+Roman Lara and the last second as well
Shinedowns version with the video is different even to this version, i prefer there other 1 over any
i truly hate that i like this version more than Skynyrd haha o well

shinedown and lynyrd skynyrd, but who wrote this song?
lynyrd skynyrd
Gary Rossington and Ronnie Van Zant in 1979
+Linkage018Video false It was wrote in 1973. Ronnie died in 1977
hank jr
lynyrd sknyrd came up with this song, but shinedown made a better verison
I just remixed this using Ted Clubberlangs voice
+Austin Cox I was stoned
I just remixed this song using Gilbert Godrey's voice.
this song reminds me of my brother who passed away two years ago...he loved to listen to it...and we used it at his funeral services..tears..tears...

This song was played at my grandmas services almost 3 months ago, she raised 4 boys on her own, she did a hell of a job I must say.
Lol. Terrible audio quality. Anyone notice the windows error tone at 1:09?
I love Lynyrd Skynyrd, and I find Shinedown to be a pretty dull band overall, but this cover far succeeds the original.
***** gotta disagree... skynyrd's version blows this out of the water.
Dagger 323 they can never equal the original~~

why????? this is a great remake!!!
Calie Frewerd Its an OK remake. No one can beat Skynyrd at being Skynyrd.
I LOVE YOU MOM. words cannot express how this song hits me and my life. Thank you for everything.
Fucking Windows 8? .-."

so?

agreed
EchoMarauder I like the vocals of shine down and Lynyrd has the instrumentals in my opinion
Chance Byrd exactly...
EchoMarauder I beg to differ. This is one of those rare cases where the cover is actually better. I hold no bias against remakes; if it sounds better then it sounds better. imho of course.
lynyrd skynyrd was much better
THERE IS NO BAD VERSION OF THIS SONG! MY SON LIVES ON IN EVERY WORD! HE WAS A TRUE SIMPLE MAN AND LEFT HERE BECAUSE THE WORLD WOULDN'T LET HIM BE ONE. PARTY ON ANTHONY!
I still like lynards better
i can't listen to this song without crying. this was my uncles favorite song and when he died a few years back it was played at his funeral. i dissolve to tears when i even see the name of this

I play this for my son all the time. he's 3 and sings along it's so calming for him.
There will never be a simpler, more beautiful and brilliant song than this one written by lynrd skynrd. And this is a soul-search provoking rendition
James rains you are a real man only real men talk like that god bless you brother and sorry for your loss
This video is the ONLY one that gets my 8 month old to calm down. From day 1 actually. Thanks for saving my nerves more than once!!
dude really knocked it out of the park with this rendition.
shinedown knows what people go thru. i feel like they know mylife story. keep rocking Shinedown
