In 1996, an original rock musical by a little-known composer opened on Broadway...and forever changed the landscape of American theatre. Two decades later, Jonathan Larson’s RENT continues to speak loudly and defiantly to audiences across generations and all over the world. And now, this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning masterpiece returns to the stage in a vibrant 20th anniversary touring production. A re-imagining of Puccini's La Bohème, RENT follows an unforgettable year in the lives of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams without selling out. With its inspiring message of joy and hope in the face of fear, this timeless celebration of friendship and creativity reminds us to measure our lives with the only thing that truly matters-love.
this was filmed before the tour started. first time ever playing roger. saw it the other day. He is way more gritty now
Steve Cohen yes! Everybody keeps hating on him but he was good when I saw him live
Steve Cohen oh good... I'm seeing it tonight and got worried when I was this
Absolutely. He is one of the best and cleanest Rogers of the 9 times I have seen this musical.
Saw it last night. He was by far the best part of the show.
This guy has improved so much. I just saw him this weekend and he was amazing. This song had he crying
he's a really different roger but damn that emotion is selling it
i love adam pascal and i always thought like no one could do it like him, and while this guy wasn't like adam at all, he actually did really amazing when i saw the show. i enjoyed the unique timbre to his voice
I agree! I had never really listened to Rent, and I saw Kaleb on the news before I saw the performance the next night. He sold me :)
Will Chase is and always will be my favourite Roger.
YES I lOVE ADAM!!!! I felt that no one has that rapsy edge to the song that he brought to it. this guy has no edge
I just saw the show and he was a lot better live
Just saw this live today, and I have to say that this cast was one of the best. According to the playbook, this was quite a few of the actors' first tour, but it definitely did not seem like it. Everyone exhibited extreme talent and a wide range of emotion, particularly Mimi and Roger. This may actually be my favorite Roger too. Definitely a must-see cast.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I really like his voice. It might not be gritty like Adam Pascal's but the tone and clean sound kind of works for me. Makes me think of Placebo or REM.
REM?
I just saw this live, and this song brought me to tears. He is amazing. He has obviously improved since performing many times live.
He's so amazing!!!!!
I don't normally care for the character of Roger, but this guy rocked it at the show in NC! It was so great.
K, at first, I was not going for it but by the end he completely sold me!!!!!! I love the emotion. Very different from Adam pascal but still amazing!
I really love this guy as Roger! I feel like him and Mark will be a fun combination on stage.
I saw this last night in person and it was amazing and I knew all the songs by heart
Great job! cant wait to see yal again!!!
this video doesn't do him justice!! i don't cry very much at performances but his performance of this in LA a year ago moved me to tears!
I saw the show twice this week, and both nights, the cast did FANTASTIC. I can guarantee you they sound MUCH better live and have improved their vocals greatly. They definitely have grown into their roles, in my personal opinion. If you have the chance to see this cast, please do it.
I just saw this and it was so amazing!!!
Saw it three days ago and I loved it! If you have a video please post Are You Okay Honey , I loved that song❤️
I can say for sure he is much better when you see him live. I don't remember him being flat when I saw him live
kaleb is one of the greatest rogers of all times. ive seen the show 4 times this year and every single time he kills it. everyone is giving him shit in the comments but he is so good !
Y'all i saw him last night and he was AMAZING. His vowels are definitely a tiny bit rough but honestly it adds this sort of youngness to his voice that makes Roger so much more tragic. Like. He was sooooooooo good. I saw Adam live a few years back when he was in Chicago and he was amazing but honestly......Kaleb was just a bit better. He's definitely gotten better with time.
i saw the performance this past weekend in providence and his voice has definitely improved
Saw it last night was amazing
Ryan Oliveira
Why does he sound like Kermit The Frog trying to sing One Song Glory?...
Bloody awful. Not sure I would pay to see this.
I saw it last week and in al honest its improved so much. He was the best singer in the show now. It's almost unrecognizable. The whole cast has gotten so much better
Yeah i saw it in November and he really did improve
go see them live..... WAY better.... he is amazing live.
He's by far the best singer on anniversary tour now, so don't go by this clip.
He was amazing
I met him last night in Vegas after the show at The Smith Center.
Every one in the comments seem to be giving him crap but I seen him in person and he is awesome
Wish I could purchase this version
Anyone go see this yet? I'm debating if I should see it when it comes to Jersey in May. I love RENT and probably saw it 9 times already but Im scared the tour cast will mess it up for me.
Melissa2087 ITS SOOO GOOD AND BETTER NOW OMG DO NOT MISS IR CHANCE GURL snatch dem tickets while u can
this video doesn't do him justice!! this performance made me cry when i saw it, and i'm not the crying type. he definitely is different than adam pascal but he is GREAT
everyone is hating but when i saw it he was amazing
I LOVE YOU!!!!
Please.... Come to South Korea. Please...... 😭
Someone could say me who is the person that appears in his shirt? I've always wanted to know...
Kalbe Wells was such a wonderful Roger
He sounds so wimpy
He would be so good if not for those vowels 😖 they're so flat in the beginning they need to be much rounder, as a choir kid it hurts to hear it done by a paid professional
YankessLove13 I get what you're saying but it is supposed to be rock ish
If anything in needs to be darker but with more of a rock tone not choir.
Ok the emotion is selling it but I'm still think his voice doesn't match with what Roger should sound like. Of course I have a huge preference for Adam Pascal but even Will Chase's voice matched better than. And he's a great singer
Bichon S I here you, I've been spoiled by Adam pascal for so long, I think I'm a little unfair when it comes to my voice expectation for roger. His emotion was great though
Poor start, saved it at the end
?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
His voice is fine, his acting is rough. Overall pretty decent Roger
Is it ok to say that this guys voice is too nice for Roger?
...
WeirdGuy207
omg...they picked up the wrong guy guy for this part, i mean, he´s a great singer but he doesn't match with the kind of voice Roger should have, u know
I saw it live last night, he was much better in performance. He was so good I cried almost every time he sang!
Why did you not cast a Roger who could sing?
Trust me when I say this, these rehearsal videos NO WAY reflect the talent of these people! I saw them the other day in ft Lauderdale and wow, they were amazing!
samigrl1234 So did I. They touched my heart. They are way better live.
Benjamin N they don't have the hype of the crowd so it wouldn't be as good live then filmed. I saw him at the kickoff of the tour in Lexington,KY and let me say.... OH MY GOD. He has me crying just bc of his voice
I really hope you're right. This was always one of my favorite songs in the show, and to say that this was...rough...is putting it nicely. I have to wait until May to see it for myself.
I agree my sister and I were exactly the same way. We watched some of the rehersal clips and couldn't help pointing out how wrong the actor for Rodger seemed. But after watching it live, we were ABSOLUTLEY wrong! Even to the point of saying that he may be one of our favorite Rodgers to date...
#notmyRoger
doing a little Rent binge watching - trying to figure out what's been bothering me about casting & productions after the original run closed on Broadway - it all seems so "acted" and "staged" - its seems so midwest middle class &'polished instead of edgy & east village new york - so glad we have great performances from the original cast / production - I believed those performances & never felt they were acting -
Elizabeth Johnston if you liked the original cast, there's a high chance the UK tour cast would do it for you. If you really love the originals you'd like them but not as much because they're absolutely amazing. I saw the UK show on Saturday and it genuinely took my breath away. My only concern was that Roger's voice didn't have the same edge as Adam Pascal's but it grew on me as a new take on it throughout the show. Everyone was amazing and I was in tears during and after the show. Of course you'll never beat an original casting for a show because they're the first people the writers and directors pick because they're exact matches to what they want, but I think they came pretty damn close.
lots of emotion just didnt have the voice tbh
tf is this
i saw him live last night, he was literally the only one in the cast who was bad. everyone else was pretty fucking great. but tihs guy just couldn't sing. he actually managed to perform this song pretty well, and when he was singing duets they'd balance out, but most of the songs hwere he was singing was cringey tbh.
There are a zillion brilliant singers and actors in the world but they chose him........? He's ruining the legacy of RENT
He sounds like he's 12. How could they cast him when they have Will Chase and Adam Pascal as two perfect examples of how Roger should sound? Very, very disappointing and confusing.
He looks so not like a Roger. Like Emo theater kid cosplay. Sorry.
This looks/sounds like someone mimicking the performances of Roger he's seen before, not somebody embodying Roger... The emphases, flourishes, and breaks just sound all wrong to me, as if the actor is simply aping prior actors and not actually gotten into the character's head yet.
(And it doesn't help that it sounds like his natural vocal range is a bit high for this role...)
This is so bad!
He's better live but still not great
Lol. Too pretty boy and barely singing what
