For sampling, ableton live was my go to for years, then Bitwig came out but then I met Serato Studio lately, and it just seems to fit right. I make avant-garde, experimental abstract music. It's cinematic and the vibe hits me with this software. I see the potential of it, and it's something I've been searching for, for a long time. The 70's is the key to my sound, this does it.

Dope review! I’ve been using Serato Studio for a few months now after hearing about the software and stumbling upon your vids. I’d say it would be cool if they added a feature where we’re able to map midi out.

Once I make the switch back to Ableton I'm definitely gonna come back to Serato Studio every once in a while.

My Ableton trial ran out, so I tried it and it's not bad. There is a bit of a learning curve because of how simple it is in nature. I do feel as it was hard in the beginning though because I see Ableton as a canvas and Serato as more of a template.

You're absolutely correct about nudging they need to address that although Sertao is a dj company, so really it's made for DJs to assist in flipping and adding to their tracks. This is why the simplicity beings DJs are not producers, that said I know for a fact Serato Studio has led djs into production or at the very least production abilities in their sets. The new mapping is cool. Personally, I run Serato for quick ideas and full production, and Abelton which easily integrates plug-ins run on both the same for me. you didn't lie though plus the de la backtrack I give it up well done

Can you do a video on how to record in serato studios? Thanks, and then how to mix and master the song, I am producing my own music from home.

*There are a lot of great free audio plugins you can use with Serato to have more control (as you can use any paid vst) and make it more capable (ChowDSP, Analog Obsession, Native Instruments (e.g. Komplete Start), IK Multimedia (e.g. SampleTank 4 CS), Valhalla Super Massive etc.). So I would not say that this is made primarily for beginners. Just the stock stuff is more beginner friendly. And having a different track for each sound is the wiser choice mix wise in any DAW, so no flaw to me regarding the off grid thing you mentioned. Great video. Just wanted to add some points.*

I also had it for 1 year. It's a very efficient DAW and you can get ideas down quickly. The sound engine is on the darker and muddier side. The effects are too simple, and like you said only 3 effects per track. And recording vocals isnt that good. The sampler and pitch is one of the best in the business though.

Nice review. With your version of Mac you can up grade your ram to 16 gigs. Also run your samples and video off an external ssd. You’ll see the difference. I used to run into the same problems.

I fully agree upon your review and share your thoughts… go and buy „ableton lite“ or if you can afford „logic“ compared to them „studio“ is limited, complicated and in my opinion „not worth it“ …

  • @DanielleKingdjdinosaur

im simple and i like speed .Ableton is amazing but i couldnt warp .Hell i cant even beatgrid but i have done so much more since getting Serato Studio. Also studio is relatively new compared to Ableton so who knows whats coming.I am too stupid to use Ableton and i barely made anything on it but the workflow on Serato is fast so even if you are just trying ideas out that you might go on to use in Ableton to take advantage of a greater set of controls it could prove useful.I wont every be a big producer as i just dont have the skills but since getting studio i have been very creative and some of the stuff i have done is even quite good so on a personal level i am quite happy though i could always learn more
