Home Free is doing a cover of Club for Five’s arrangement of this, with permission from them. Home Free did make a few changes so it isn’t a direct copy.
One of my all-time favorite Home Free covers. Absolutely some of the most beautiful harmonies. Thanks for sharing your time and thoughts with us. Peace, hope, love and above all else unity.✌🤗🙏
This song was inspired by the Falklands War, which was going on when Dire Straits lead singer Mark Knopfler wrote the song. The Falklands War was a conflict between Argentina and the UK over islands off the coast of Argentina that each country claimed rights to. The islands are British territories, but in 1982 Argentina tried to reclaim one of the islands. Britain reclaimed their territories, but lost 258 soldiers in the conflict. In this song, Mark Knopfler sings about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away. It's a look at the folly of war and the plight of those who fight them. "We've got just one world but we live in different ones," he told the BBC. "It's just stupid, it really is. We're just foolish to take part in anybody's war.
My hubby was shot in the head on Mt. Tumbledown the morning of the ceasefire. He survived but has lived with the horrors he witnessed for 41 years. He was part of a group of vets who returned to the islands on the 20th anniversary. It was very healing for him and many others, the islanders stopped everything for the week they were there. The thanks given to all the vets was overwhelming and for some gave reason to what and who they were fighting for.
The last Amen harmony gets me every time. Would love to know if Mark has heard the treatment and reverence Home Free has given his powerful poetry, and what he thinks of it.
I consider this song, as the Home Free Masterpiece....well at least for now, because these guys are so very talented who knows if they will ever top it......I put no limits on their abilities, but this is as near to perfection as right now I can think of.
Beautiful and heartfelt reaction Nick, thank you. Home Free has some of the best if not the best 5 part harmony in the business. Adam the beatboxer has a beautiful tenor voice but prefers the beatboxing. He joins in for the 5 part harmony songs; Helplessly Hoping, Auld Lang Syne, opening to Seven Bridges Road and How Great Thou art to name a few. Thanks for reacting to this and have a great day!
This song has such beautiful harmonies, and wonderful lows from both Tim and Chance, but it also shows that even when Tim goes VERY low, he is still in control of his voice, and that must be incredibly difficult.
Really enjoying your channel, especially your Home Free reactions. I hope you check out Home Free's version of "Helplessly Hoping" a Crosby, Stills and Nash cover. Another five part harmony that is a hauntingly beautiful rendition by Home Free.
Home Free's interpretation for their videos for the vast array of genre they perform is sensational and very entertaining. They have videos that are serious and sincere to funny and hilarious and often catch us the audience discerning that a great amount of thought went into producing to enhance the message in the delivery. They bring an emotional aspect that is fresh and thought provoking each time. They are very intentional and deliver with excellence. They simply don't put out junk, they bring it with a very high end and are very deliberate with their message of their productions. Home Free’s library of songs/productions both covers and originals and include a vast array of genres has become incredible. It is just plain fun to review and realize their gifts and talents are over the top extraordinary. This group can simply stand tall amongst the industry vocalist peers (groups and gifted vocalists). They bring about an excitement intrigue wondering what they will produce for us today, near future and the years to come. They are not bound by a particular genre and whatever they produce you know it is going to be quality. Home Free produces at a high level of integrity and always amazing the interpretation both vocally and visually with their video presentation. Every individual in their vocal group is significant top-notch performer and each draws out the very best in each other. I always look with anticipation to their next release. Thank you Home Free!!! ❣
When you pointed to the goose bumps on your arm I chuckled because I had the same reaction just seconds before. Love that pipe organ effect their voices make about midway through. It’s so beautiful. But then the whole song is beautifully done.
This is such a powerful song I think the guys make it so emotional. My hubby was in the forces here in the UK and like all over I don’t think the vets and serving persons get the support they are due. Thank you to all who served no matter where and to those who support them. I’m loving your reactions to the guys, it’s a very addictive rabbit hole. I’d love to see you react to Rob and Austin sing opera.
New 🇨🇦 Sub, here for your journey through Home Free’s amazingly deep and diverse catalogue! This is such a somber, powerful, tender and hauntingly beautiful song all at the same time. Home Free never disappoints! Another MUST for their 5-part harmony is I Can’t Outrun You, video concept/direction by Chance who also takes the lead. Heartbreakingly beautiful. Other MUSTS are: Listen to the Music, Castle on the Hill, Take Me Home Country Roads and Brother (which you may need to watch the first time for the video and second time for the music - or vice-versa - trust me, we Home Fries won’t mind!) Not to mention so, so many great collaborations and their originals! Please keep the Home Free coming you’re doing a great job!
They’re all incredible in this but Chance is just phenomenal!!!! His tone is stunning & I love the warmth in his voice. First time I heard this I wasn’t sure about it because I LOVE Dire Straits & grew up with their version of this but after a couple of listens it’s up there with my favourites of Home Free!! I love your appreciation of Home Free & the original too. Keep them coming Nick 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Yep been waiting on you to react to this one now you need to react to “helplessly hoping” if you haven’t already by homefree the harmony there is also amazing
I have always been a fan of this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & loved it when all the guys were doing 5 part harmonies. Who would believe humming could sound so good. They gave it a very solemn feeling. I love that they don't overproduce their songs. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.
Excellent reaction, subscribed. The beatboxer Adam Rupp sings so well in the higher harmonies here, making up the even richer five part harmonies that are such a feature of this song. They are such a talented group and blend so well. Adam Chance is sometimes overlooked, but his section is so good.
I always liked the Dire Straits version, but I only got really interested in this song through Home Free. (Although I have to be honest I think Dire Straits guitar playing is phenomenal) Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound
Even if this song were about something else, the musical greatness alone would bring me to tears. Some things are almost too beautiful to bear, even on Earth.
I love this. So hauntingly beautiful. Dire Straits version is guitar driven where this is voice driven. Tim and Chance killed it. I loved the black and white look to the video, loved the echoes. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. And those low notes of Tim….amazing. Great reaction! I subscribed. 🥰😍 Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood, What We Ain’t Got, One Man Band.
This group is one of the most patriotic groups you'll find. They are such a phenomenal group of talented people and multiple, long time, award winning artists, have invited them to perform/record with them. One of those was Lee Greenwood. The video & recording of their cover of God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the US Air Force band is the absolute version of that song out there.
This is beautiful and haunting at the same time! The harmonies, of course are so well done and Adam is singing this time, which doesn’t happen a lot, since no percussion is needed. Such a beautiful tribute to veterans and all who serve!❤❤ Awesome reaction, just subscribed for more Home Free!👍👍
I’ve listened to Brothers in Arms several times in the Original and Home Free. The thing I really appreciated was that I can always understand every word that Home Free sing. I love that their musical words aren’t covered by guitars or drums.
I consider this one of Home Free's masterpieces, & I think Dire Staits would consider this a compliment to their original version. Great reaction! I know the original version so I seriously did not think I would react so strongly to HF's version, but I cried because it hit me so hard. ❤️🍟
I broke down on tears listening to this. My husband couldn't finish. Hurt too much, as he had so many brothers die by his side in combat. They are the best!!!❤
I’m so glad you discovered Home Free. I love them, I love Pentatonix and I do really like your reactions. You have to react more to Home Free, and maybe you should listen to Austin Browns version of «Tears in Heaven» and «Bring him home». They are really good. Sorry for my bad English 😉
Austin has many great songs on his solo channel to check out. Tim & Austin do a cover of My Maria on his channel which is great with a little surprise too! Take a listen!
I get emotional every time I watch someone react to this song! Once again, Tim summons the dragon! Seriously, even when they are just humming it's like diamonds in my ears! Great reaction young man! Howdy from Texas 🤠
Nick, an excellent reaction. For me, what really sealed the deal was your comparison of Home Free to the incomparable King's Singers. The emotions they illicit with their harmonies, technique and varied arrangements ... When I first heard HF, I felt the same "chills." Thank you for sharing these two amazing groups eith me. ❤
Enjoyed your reaction. I love acapella. And nobody is better than Home Free. Enjoy your journey.. But wait a while on End Of The Road and Mayday. And by the way they are even better live. I've had the good fortune to see them 4 times.
Dead comrades singing to their surviving brothers. It's OK, you didn't forget me...go back to your farms my brothers in arms. I can't go by a vets graveyard without thinking of this song in my head. So touching at so many levels, thank vets.
A Masterpiece by Home Free. They have quite a few. Every single one of these singers will blow your mind as they take center stage. Tim Foust is a special bass, I think, in the rarified realm of world class bass singers with a huge range, because of the purity of his tone, even in the subterranean levels. Geoff Castellucci is right there with him, but I admit to giving Tim the edge. But really, no reason to choose when you can enjoy them all! If you want to hear Tim’s Dragon Breath react to his duet with Peter Hollens of The Misty Mountains from the Hobbit. Incredible. You are just started on the amazing catalog by Home Free. Rob in some ways is my favorite, but really, I love whoever is singing, because they all are special in their own way, and you have barely been exposed to most of them, including the Alien Adam Rupp who is an unbelievable beatboxer, who swallowed a drum kit and harmonica. I’m going on too much but they are amazing, every one.
My Father-in-law was in WWW II. His platoon in the army was ambushed and half were killed. Several of his brothers in arms fell on him and the enemy thought that he was dead.He caught up with his platoon 3 days later and scared the hell out of Men who were still alive. They thought that he was a ghost. This is a phenomenal rendition of the song and you gave the perfect reaction as usual.
Hi, Nick! New subscriber here! This is my all time favorite recording (so far) from Home Free! It’s hauntingly beautiful! I get goose bumps in several parts of the song. The echo part is one of them. The one you where you got chills is the same for me, as well. Tim’s deep bass really brings depth and soul to this cover. I also love that he and Chance had leads for this one! The harmonies were stunning and perfect. The video was perfect for the song and the effects of Tim’s and Chance’s ghostly image was remarkable. I don’t know if anyone else mentioned that Austin and Chance also have their own UA-cam channels. Austin has originals and covers, as does Chance. Chance doesn’t have but a few on his channel, but he is working on a solo album. He leans more towards more Folk style, but also like Rock music. Check out Home Free’s cover of Bruce Springstein’s cover of “Born In the USA” where Chance leads the whole song. He really brought it on that one. I enjoyed your reaction and commentary regarding Dire Straits. I do like their hits from the past, but never heard their original version of this until Home Free covered it. I went and listened to it and really liked it. It’s definitely worth a listen, or more!
It gets me in all the feels...Very very moving....Those scenes with Tim when he stands in front of the window he is transparent...then I noticed when I re watched it that they all were transparent....which gave me another goosebumps moment. There interpretation of this song with truly brilliant. Thank you for such a beautiful reaction and lovely words. Hi from Australia
I had never heard this song before I stumbled onto to Home Free. Absolutely beautiful and powerful. They are quite talented and addictive. You should check out their video, "Everybody Walking this Land". Hard hitting and very relevant for our time. Thank you for your reaction.
Home Free always pays appropriate respect in their covers--especially to the content! Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥
Always makes me cry. Sitting here now with tears running down my cheeks. So sad so true As I type this a dark cloud out of no where started pouring rain so hard I heard it even with my headphone on. Makes me think God is crying for us all. WAR IS STUPID.
I'm surprised that other Home Fries have not steered you to Man of Constant Sorrow, Mayday, End of the Road, When A Man Loves A Woman..... I love your honest reaction. The Home Free rabbit hole goes deep! With 2 basses, 2 tenors and all doing background parts along with Adam's beatboxing it's easy to forget there are no instruments!
Great reaction, this song means a lot to me. This arrangement was from another incredible a cappella group Club for Five. They gave Home Free the okay to use their arrangements and wow. As you said, a beautiful tribute! Low bass Kenneth.
Chance and Tim silhouetted against the light from the window is deliberately ghostly, a dying soldier’s spirit slipping away into the light. It also is highly reminiscent of the POW-MIA flags we fly in honor of our military captured and missing. The entire song brings me chills and tears. I also love the Dire Straits version, but this one really brought the message home to me.
I love both The King's Singers and Home Free, I agree with what you mean about Home Free having that King's Singers feel in this song. Please check out Tim Foust's ( of Home Free) cover of can't help falling in love, it's gorgeous!
This is actually a cover of a cover. The Finnish A Capella group Club for Five, did this arrangement first. Tim asked their bass Tuukka if they could record it. Tuukka sent it to them, and fell in love with the echo sequences HF added. Listen to Club for Five sometime, they are really good too....and deserve more attention from American A Capella fans.
I really enjoy your reactions! Those of us who are loyal Home Free fans love a great reaction to the guys! They are truly incredibly talented, each one of them. Have you also had a chance yet to react to Everybody Walkin' This Land they did? And then for a lighter fun video they of course nail(!) try Brother. Completely different than these heavier ones! Take care. (Be sure to go to Austin Brown's solo channel too -- he is so special. Bring Him Home shows off his classical training and Tears in Heaven he brings out so much emotion!) Thanks again.
This arrangement was created by the Finnish group Club for Five and they were kind to let HF use it. Their version is definitely worth a listen. It is quite different as it includes male and female voices as well as instrumentation. I had not heard the original Dire Straits version before I heard the Home Free one. When I went to listen to it, I thought I'd clicked on the wrong video because it is so drastically different from this.
tim be a total sub woofer the way they produced this video almost made it look like they was ghosts as ya can kinda see through them but l love the way tim and chance shared lead vocals and the echo on it gives it a other worldly feel l actually like home free's version better than dire straights
For a listen to their unbelievable harmonies , plus Adam (the best beatboxer ever) singing tenor, look up their rendition of "How Great Thou Art". Great reactions. Keep up the good work.
Tim's opening is one of the most haunting, melancholy, plaintive pieces of vocal artistry ever (even more than his closing). The wall of sound following Chance is stunning. I am not a huge Dire Straits fan, but this song was their best, IMO. Home Free's cover is better. Excellent reaction, Nick!!
Great Reaction! This is such a somber, beautiful song about the cost of engaging in warfare. Yes, there are times when we are forced into war by circumstances, but even so there is a high cost involved. Another song about war that ALWAYS gets to me is "Danger Line" by Avenged Sevenfold" I would love to watch you react to it! As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this reaction and I look forward to seeing more of your music reactions!
Welcome Nick glad you are enjoying our guy… yes we know they are pretty special and are looking forward to sharing your journey down this wonderful rabbit hole. For you I agree check out their covers: Helplessly Hoping In The Blood When a Man loves a woman Crazy Take me Home Country Roads My church Cover me up And for a little fun, check out these covers: Try everything Moonshine Brother

I dearly love Adams beatboxing, but when all 5 sing together, the wall of sound they creat is spectacular.
Home Free is doing a cover of Club for Five’s arrangement of this, with permission from them. Home Free did make a few changes so it isn’t a direct copy.
This is the most hauntingly beautiful rendition I’ve ever heard!
One of my all-time favorite Home Free covers. Absolutely some of the most beautiful harmonies. Thanks for sharing your time and thoughts with us. Peace, hope, love and above all else unity.✌🤗🙏

Yes I would hope he has
I've always wondered myself.
That was a wonderful reaction, Nick. You did a great job covering this incredibly haunting song!
Thank you so much!

Baritone and Bass is my absolute Kryptonite. I am a strong independent woman, but those low, resonant bass tones turn me into utter mush.
Beautiful, Love Home Free
So do I!
The background to Chance's singing sounds like an organ. It's beautiful.
They dropped a live performance on Friday of Sea Shanty Medley from Berlin. Fantastic!
Beautiful and heartfelt reaction Nick, thank you. Home Free has some of the best if not the best 5 part harmony in the business. Couldn't agree more!
I LOVE the King's Singers!!! Theyre incredible.
Appreciate your really fine reaction, informed commentary. So glad to have you aboard the Home Free train.
So, should “Folsom Prison Blues” be next? 🚂🚂🚂
I appreciate that
@@itzel1735 Woo-oo woo!
@@tygerbrite Now I’m singing “Love Train”! Lol
This song has such beautiful harmonies, and wonderful lows from both Tim and Chance, but it also shows that even when Tim goes VERY low, he is still in control of his voice, and that must be incredibly difficult.
Truly a masterpiece masterpiece from Home Free!! The talent oozing from these men are unmatched 👏
Great reaction Nick Mark Knopfler is a beast this is one of his best songs.
Really enjoying your channel, especially your Home Free reactions. I hope you check out Home Free's version of "Helplessly Hoping" a Crosby, Stills and Nash cover. Another five part harmony that is a hauntingly beautiful rendition by Home Free.
I will check it out, thank you!
@nickforellreacts this one is vocal perfection 🥰

Awesome! Thank you!
Masterpiece ~` thanks Nick.🍟
I cry every time I hear this song by

Keep an eye on Tim's hand...when he's going really low, his hand goes down too! This one of my favorites from HF!

Thanks for your reaction. Home Free does an amazing service to the song, and to all soldiers who serve the country.
This is the most beautiful reaction I've seen on this song. Much Respect.

Love the original!
Chokes me up, every time I hear this cover!❤😔😢
This is so very awesome! He gave me goosebumps as well. Love your reaction!
Another song that will amaze you is The End of the Road by Boyz to Men. Nice reaction, HF is a class act

Love the Kings Singers! Thanks for the reaction!
This is my 2nd favorite Dire Straights song, right behind "So Far Away" and I love what Home Free did with it.

Great cover and reaction. On some somber/reflective days, this is my favorite . When wanting to feel happy and carefree, 'Listen to the Music '.

Notice the change in harmony’s. They start with “mmmm” then “ahhh” then “ooooo”. Then back to “mmmm”s. It just adds so much
My Father-in-law was in WWW II.
Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window.
Tim got a hold of Mark and ask them if they could do a cover of the sign and he of course said yes. I think it’s marvelous.
♥️ wonderful reaction. 🤠HF❤️🔥😍
I love it when someone discovers Home Free. This music got me through the pandemic.
Wonderful song. Great reaction. 🙂
Great reaction, this song means a lot to me. This arrangement was from another incredible a cappella group Club for Five. They gave Home Free the okay to use their arrangements and wow. As you said, a beautiful tribute! Low bass Kenneth.
Great reaction! This one from Home Free is another favorite!
Love your reaction to this!! They are most amazing harmonists, among many other talents! ❤❤❤ Keep up the great job!
Their 5 part harmonies are unmatched. Try Helplessly Hoping and Auld Lang Syne for more 5 part harmony mastery.
Powerful Tribute to fallen soldiers ❤🎉When Chance days you did not desert me my Brothers in Arms 😢
I remember getting the Dire Straits CD and playing this in a dark room. Still get goosebumps remembering .. This version was as spectacular. ❤
Tim contacted Dire Straits about HF doing this song; they gave their blessing 🔥
I love your reactions! They are intelligent and considered. Thanks.
No words. 😢
Check the previous song done in the prison .Tim Foust followed by Austin Brown
Always enjoy your HF reactions and love this particular song.
Did you change the name of your channel? Wasn't it something like acapella lover?
Thank you! And nope that was just the title of my video!
They do this like a prayer
tim be a total sub woofer the way they produced this video almost made it look like they was ghosts as ya can kinda see through them but l love the way tim and chance shared lead vocals and the echo on it gives it a other worldly feel l actually like home free's version better than dire straights
For a listen to their unbelievable harmonies , plus Adam (the best beatboxer ever) singing tenor, look up their rendition of "How Great Thou Art". Great reactions. Keep up the good work.
I'll check it out!
3:07 Same here. ❤️
Welcome Nick glad you are enjoying our guy…

I'm so glad you did this one. I think they did Mark Knopfler proud.
Check out their version of "Sea Shanty Medley". Adam Chance wrote the song "Skull and Bones" for a video by the same name.
Tim's bass almost hurts. So beautiful
