    1. You can preview all the Tesla Superchargers directly on the Tesla App (no need to use Google Maps or ABRP anymore).
    2. Tesla now had "Waypoints" you can select a different Supercharger then the one that's suggested WITHOUT removing your overall destination (your final arrival time AND your next supercharger arrival time are both displayed)
    3. Tesla supercharger location navigator (view) tells you the supercharger stats live (how many free, broken and what speed)

Up until V11 I used to be able to see the total km / driving time just before starting the trip in the Tesla nav..now it only shows you the time of arrival and the distance for the next SC stop or if you have waypoints selected, the time it takes to get to the next stop..I have not yet found a way on how to switch the suggested SC stops on the way to my final destination..maybe you have some additional information or tips on how to overcome this issue? Cheers

One thing I do not like about the Tesla route planner and ABRP is that you cannot set what you want your end state of charge to be. They both ASSUME that you will be able to charge somehow at your destination which may or may not be the case. You could end up at an out of the way place that has no chargers and not have enough charge to get to a charger.

By planning using all 3 maps, may save 40 minutes on the trip, but I have to end up spending the same amount of time planning. It kinda evens out 😂

ABRP: you can also say that you start with % charge and want to end on % charge, or at some stop you have a long (lunch) break

John, I must be missing something. Are you not using Tesla premium connectivity subscription (25 bucks or so month)? It is all I use. 1 and done. With the waypoints function now added to Tesla nav, I have zero complaints. It re-routes for traffic perfectly, I pick preferred chargers as Waypoints - if needed. It has saved my bacon numerous times on the re routes. I am amazed, this is literally the first time I think I disagree with you. I remove charge stops to double check trael time. The ETAs are freakishly accurate. Looooove Tesla Nav with prem connectivity.
Fyi - I do road trips every couple of months, have a 2018 LEMR 240ish range now.

My family did a 3,100 road trip last year. I compared Tesla with ABRP and ended up using Tesla for navigation and pre conditioning and ABRP for charging times.

Don't forget a can of fix-a-flat or small compressor in case of low tire presure as I found on my trip between Charlotte NC and Fort Myers FL. Tesla took care of me but had to backtrack 50mi to get a new tire.

Do not stop at Tuscaloosa, AL. Half of out of 8 supercharges do not work. I suspect it is done intentionally, cause when you walk away you get a message that you penalized for staying over 5 min and find out it stopped charging after 1min only and you still need lots of charging to continue. I have changed 4 stations before it finally charged to the needed level, and every time got the same message - penalty for occupying the space. Meridian andJackson MS were good though.

Great video and very important points that you made, John! I think the main advantage of using Google maps are the reviews that are given by actual users of those different supercharger stations - and especially the way they tell you about the quality of the different amenities like food and bathrooms and how friendly the people at the motels are when there is nothing but the motel around! Like you said, for shorter trips it's not really as important, but when you're driving 600 miles to 900 miles in a day like we have done several times, it really can make a big difference by the end of those longer days!

You can actually load ABRP on your Tesla through the browser and it will actively track you and act as your built I'm car navigation. It knows your current state of charge, location, speed, etc.

I start with Google as well, especially for trip requiring a hotel. SCs at or near a hotel is a real plus because you can do a long charge while at dinner.

This is a great comparison with helpful details and insights -- thank you! (My kids are planning a Summer road trip in our Bolt -- they don't get to drive our Model 3 for that outing -- so am trying to figure out how best to guide them to non-Tesla charging. With some adjustments to use non-Tesla-specific locations, these suggestions are really helpful. BTW, I am actually averse to using the 250 superchargers, having heard that faster charging accelerates battery degradation. I have been seeking out the lowest-power superchargers whenever circumstances permit.

ABRP is very handy, but it is terrible at estimating the charging cost. Charging usually costs 2 or 3 times what it estimates. I use the same combination of Google maps, ABRP and Tesla mapping. Google is good at real time estimates if time for alternate routes through cities.

Also....I do micro-manage my charging utilizing TOU for more economical Supercharging. I will charge before 3 pm whether I really need it to minimze my final charge during higher rates. 😉

A couple other things to mention about ABR. They actually have a website you can log into and use your PC to plan your route and look at things just like the phone app. You can even jump between your phone device and the webpage but you need to make sure you have linked your tesla account and saved the routes to make sure they come up on whatever device you are using. Another thing I have round with the ABR is you can actually see what's around each stop similar to your demonstration of the google maps but its a bit more cumbersome to find as you have to drill into each stops details. I know everyone is different and personally though I liked ABR and the ability too send destinations to the tesla via the app I found using the tesla's built in navigation to be good enough for our recent 1000 mile trip from OH to FL. The additional work using an 3rd party app (though small) became annoying enough while on the road that I abandoned the process and simply used the built in nav.

I often arrive at a supercharger with less than 10 miles! Does this reduce battery life?

I have used A Better Route Planner and obviously Tesla maps. I didn’t realize Google maps allowed adding charging stops.
One thing I like about ABRP is the ability to change my settings to my charges only going to 70% charging by selecting a Standard Range variation since I prefer stopping every 2 to 2.5 hours. Now oddly recently I have noticed my Tesla navigation now stops more frequently and only recommends lower state of charge leaves. Not sure if it’s learned that about me or it’s figured out you can save charging time by charging more frequently to a lower state of charge.

here's a hypothetical for you: how would Tesla handle the admission that FSD is substantially further away from becoming reality than they had first thought. I'm thinking in terms of 5-10 years of incremental updates instead of months. would they scale back and leave it as an R&D project on the back burner? stop selling it on the cars? refund people who'd bought in? keep a hard core of fans as testers? There is surely an outside chance that AK isn't coming back because the project is now looking like a marathon that he no longer wants to be in. personally I'd wait another 10 years for FSD and still consider it amazing but others are not so patient. I just wondered what you thought would happen.

Thank you for making a video about why BEVs are not suitable for long trips. 20% longer trip time, plus spending an hour planning it out, plus no ability to go off the interstate (because there are no super chargers anywhere outside of the city, except along the interstate), plus you got to lie to your car about where you are going so that it gets itself ready to charge, etc etc etc. I realize that most of these problems will be gone in 10 years, and somone has to be the early adopter to work all the issues out, but no thanks. Ill keep driving my PHEV that i can put GAS in the tank when I want to go on a long trip.
