For MC , man everyone is Dead Brolar and hoodler was my favorite niggas then Doctor snitch broler.first I like her bonkers after she kill him I was like fuck her I will kill her myself
Akudama Drive should have gotten more love, it's one of my favorite anime. It's unfortunate it's not as popular or as well known as other anime :( Also, amazing analysis! You really explained the reasons why I love akudama drive and cyber punk in general.
Thanks liz. It is unfortunate Akudama Drive didn’t get much attention, especially when it came out. But hey, cool to hear it’s one of your favs and to hear from another fan :)
@@MadMatt-TVI've just finished watching anime not even 5 mins ago I've had nothing to watch for month so finally decided to just scroll though the list of anime and the Websites I use to see if there is absolutely anything I havnt watch yet and i found Akudama Drive at first I only stuck it on for something to kill the time think ah it be shit just and that probably why I never watch it since it one of few I havnt seen/watch 1 ep and dropped (dont judge me I had lot of time on my hands during lockdown since I move out at 17 and had flat to my self so I pretty much watched every anime that existed if its dubbed) but I was surprised and so engaged by this anime it was so good the only down side was the lack of code/shipment names for the kids it kinda takes u out the world abit when the other characters keep scream brother sister also the little girls characteristics change so quick but apart from that it was amazing
I am not a big fan of cyberpunk style but...Akudama Drive is the best cyberpunk anime! I love it so much! Character are beautiful, mostly Satsujinki the cutthroat ❤, It's denunciation of police violences, injustice, hypocrisy in judicial system etc etc...😊❤
When it came out, I just saw the flashy lights, the good quality and it beeing an original anime from studio pierrot (big fan) in the trailer. Unfortunately in my country it was locked behind a streaming service I really don't want to support, you can't even watch it with its original dub. However, there was a very very cheap offer for a few months.. so I bought it.. (I don't like myself for disregarding my principles but that was the only way to watch some series legally). Now I've finally watched one these series, Akudama Drive, and I'm a bit speechless. I didn't expect that much from the series because like nobody was really talking about it and I didn't know anything besides it beeing a cyperpunk and psychological genre. Now I don't know where to start talking about it. The well-written strong female mc, the variety of characters (psychopaths^^), the storywriting (I love these little ads with those two cute puppets and how they are implemented), the contrast of pure chaos and dead seriousness or the continuously action throughout the whole series. It also reduces the fan-service to a bare minimum even though one of the characters' personality is to be partly a fan-service character (talking to you Tamaki from FF, oh I hate this girl so much). All of this makes it such an amazing show to watch. After the last episode I'm kinda sad and empty at the moment. The conclusion fits very well and it was well made, but after they visited Kanto I was thinking about those four beeing happy together far away. However when she broke her leg, everything I'd imagined just shattered before my eyes and I knew this show won't do me that favor... Anyways, sry for my long comment, I just came by to listen to other peoples opinions and wanted to talk about it because I can't stop thinking about it even though I have to sleep lol. Very good video!
Underrated. Lately posting liquid gold in the form of youtube anime reviews. Extremely creative, analytical and intelligent commentary while having witty and hilarious snippets and jokes. Side note: AMAZING editing, legitimately stunning. You have SOLD ME on this. COMPLETELY. Love this, Matt. Epic.
Akudama Drive did chaotic cyberpunk before Edgerunners made it cool. 😎🌆 Both are phenomenal shows though, glad to see Akudama Drive getting so much love lately, I don't understand how this one went under so many people's radar. Another underground hit to check out would be Sabikui Bisco, like nobody is talking about that one for some reason.
just finished this video, and aw man don't trash on SAO like literally every other reviewer lol It's a masterpiece in it's own right, after a rewatch I really appreciate it far more for how well written it is, especially the Phantom Bullet and Alicization/Underworld arcs. Maybe it's just me, but I think all the hate SAO gets is way, way overblown.
Fair enough Grimsikk, maybe I just need a rewatch of it all. I mainly was just poking at the characters here because they fall into certain archetypes. I do think SAO is a masterpiece is it’s own right and I would never knock anyone for liking it. For me though there are just to many things that I just couldn’t get behind. However phantom bullet for me was the strongest arc and I was really into it at that point, but the Excalibur arc that followed just felt a little out of place. I dunno I think SAO is such a cool concept just with two many things happening in it. But again maybe I just need a rewatch, it has been many years. And I haven’t really watch pasted season 2 lol . And thanks for the feedback I do genuinely appreciate it. It’s always good to hear from different sides. As much as everyone memes on it, it had a massive impact on the industry and its fans. So we all should still pay respect. Also I will check out Sabikui Bisco, looks like a fun time. 👍🏻
@@MadMatt-TV I really appreciate the honest and thoughtful reply. I'm glad you aren't just hopping on the hate SAO bandwagon, that's what I was afraid of lol but instead it's nice that you recognize it's strengths and not just it's flaws. I suppose it really just comes down to personal preference in fiction, at the end of the day. Keep up the great work on your videos, and enjoy Sabikui Bisco, it's a fun one. 🔥
Just watched Akudama Drive in one run last night, and damn I’m impressed. I went in to it just to chill in the evening but I was hooked straight away; the story, the characters and their diversity, the world, its all so well done! I’m currently considering this the best show I’ve ever watched.
80s and 90s cyberpunk anime is really on another level. Akudama is the closest we've seen to something of those glory days, but there really is nothing quite like it.
So glad this masterpiece is finally getting the recognition it deserves! Was so shocked to finish watching and not find many well produced and entertaining videos on it, glad this one scratched that itch 😁
In the beginning doctor was best girl, in the end the female executioner with one eye is best girl. Didn't much like swindler. Also only wait it could've had a second season is if it followed the one eyed executioner chicken, she became a akudama for some contrived reason of betraying the executioner and started hunting them down.
So far Cyberpunk 2077, Edgerunners and now Akudama Drive have reinvigorated my love for cyberpunk genre. I’m definitely gonna watch it again in English dub to get the full experience both ways.
Yeah I just finished Akudama drive last 2 episodes an hour ago on Crunchyroll, and my GOD what a Ride!! Definitely a masterpiece but sadly so underrated.
Honestly loved this video, but I just dont see Akudama drive being able to have a 2nd season, I feel like all it needed was one season. Also love your content man it shocked me when I saw you had less than a thousand subscribers, keep pushing you'll definitely hit 100k atleast.
I remember watching this series and thinking “Wow, this gets dark.” And now It’s not that dark anymore because JJK has just made me numb to every single main character dying.
Jesus u were spot on with this review from old anime to current ones. Once I saw how and that bomb they dropped in the war that destroyed the moon I knew ish wasn't sweet anymore lol. Perfect turning point. This anime is in my top 5 and enjoyed how short and filling it was even tho I'm empty as right now hahah
I cant stand Dangonropa, But ffs did the writer hit it with Drive. It came about during our Cyberpunk slump and i firmly believe was only overshadowed by other anime that came out at the same time as it did.
It's ironic that this did so poorly compared to Danganronpa when this blew it out of the water in every respect. I also find it interesting that there are serious biblical undertones to the story of Akudama Drive. If you think about it for a second Swindler is a very obvious Antichrist character and instead of leading people to the truth she decides to destroy Kansai through lies. At the end, of the story they send two children to live in a forgotten garden. There's also the numerology, the number 13 derives its meaning from christ and his 12 apostles whereas in Akudama Drive they number 7 which is considered to be the opposite of 13. So if you look at it there is a kind of inversion of the story of the Bible with the christ figure dying to bring about the end of humanity and the story ending on two children coming back to the garden of Eden.
@@Jack-nj9pi How am I reaching? Was there not a crucifixion, a deciever, a pair of innocent children and a garden of plenty? There's even a traitor who sells their group for money and ultimately dies. It seems pretty on the nose to me. Could you elaborate in what way I am reaching?
The swindler only tells 2 lies. One to save herself at the start and one towards the end, which saves everyone but herself

i startted at 2am and now it's 8am and i did not sleep bc i started this anime
I haven't been this emotionally stirred since edgerunner
I never recovered from cyberpunk
ooh you get a subscribe for covering this gem

Uh with this I realize how much of a cyberpunk world Library of Ruina has, yet artistically it doesn't look like it.
20:00 hit me like a truck
I got so emotionally attached to courrier and his relationship with his bike, i physically need another courrier mc if you know tell me!
Something like Anthony Mackie and Evelyn from the twisted metal show
When swindler died i did
Just got this in my recommended and I don't know why. UA-cam algorithm has chosen this as your time. Good luck.

yeah that's quite a stretch dude. fun hearing your interpretation though
I think this is a great analysis. There is also that shot in the opening of swindler sitting in front of a bunch of crosses.
