Water in the conduit? Translation: make certain that whatever you run through the conduit is water proof because the people who run the conduit may be too lazy to properly glue the conduit together so that it is water proof and/or bedding it so that ground shifting will not break the conduit.
Exactly. Real bad deal with that manhole. No gas test to check that it's safe to enter. No ladder to quickly get people in or out. No rescue system to pull someone out if they get in trouble. No ventilation blower set up to get fresh air if needed. Perfect setup for some totally preventable fatalities. Eventually luck will run out.
Did a ton of cable pulling in the past, back when we had to pull in Cat-3 25 pair copper to MDF's and IDF's. I've worked through the transition from old X/Y stepper switch telecom systems to multi-mode fiber and VOIP. So I know your dilemma well.
@@lifeasweknowit5280 I have a feeling that with satellite technology (think Starlink) and wireless advancements, even fiber may become as outdated as copper? I know being an old-school PBX programmer/Copper tech from the past, the data networking teams quickly eliminated my job when everything went over to cloud servers from internal private business exchanges.
@@merlepatterson ok…I used to repair light fixtures in the old Bell Atlantic telephone buildings and in the cable vaults where the phone wires come in from the street.
Thank you. Currently we just build OSP for other providers. I’m part owner in this business. Someday I’d like to provide data services but for now we do OSP. Thanks for the support!
You guys do great work! You definitely want to transition to becoming the service provider, owning the customer, and earning recurring monthly revenue. Best business model. Apart from operating an ISP, I assist new service providers with getting their network designed, edge routing setup using juniper devices, and making sure they have a solid plan to scale/grow. We should talk sometime. Continue the kick ass work my friend.
Was fiber certified years ago. Was that a fox and hound you were using and we never pulled fiber. We would blow it with nitrogen. A bottle will blow about 1000 ft. If you need it longer you still will blow it 1000ft at a time and figure 8 it for the next section. If the fiber is pulled, it will internally break. Are you maybe pulling mult?
To be honest with you I’m not sure what a fox and hound is? Lol. I’ve pulled a lot of fiber and haven’t had it break internally. I think fiber technology has come a long way. We have blown Fiber too, it’s a lot less work if the conduit good.
You guys should consider using gas and O2 detectors, you’d be surprised how many manholes have lower O2, that’s a killer.
I appreciate you, we are looking into getting some! Do you have a suggestion on a good brand?
MSA ALTAIR 5X@@lifeasweknowit5280
Blower also.
And maybe some confined space training
MSA. They have an all in one confined spaces kit too.

Watched a crew take a chance . You don’t get a second chance .

Love to see how this is done in other parts of the world and learn a new thing or two. I do more or less the same work in Sweden.
You should definitely make some videos and post them. I’d watch them!
Great detail on the vids, much better than others' short snippets.
Gotta love the good ol' plastic bag trick! (and the super buried manhole lol)
Thank you!
Nice bit of handiwork.
Thanks
I QC lumen fiber jobs. The engineering drawings. Used to be on front end. Now I am at the other end.
That’s awesome! Which end is more fun?
Looks like the engineers didn’t have any good maps of exactly where the conduit had been installed.
If I had a dollar for every time that's happened....And the older the site the worse the location process is.
We hardly ever do. A lot of it ends up being rough approximation based on what we do know, or can find and make sense of.
Congratulations and welcome to your new youtube experience. Let the subs begin.
Thank you!

Awesome, I’ve only handled fiber.

That wasn’t in the town telephone buildings was it?
@@rmhanseniii If you're talking about AT&T 1A2 switches it was, but I worked mainly business systems.

That jeep didn't care about that stop sign one bit @5:30
stop signs are merely a suggestion
Wow guys what's with wearing harnesses and not clipping in. 37% of fatalities at work are caused by falls - stay safe out there, think before you do
Love the vidz! do you guys provide data services or just build OSP for other providers? I own/operate a telecom business in south texas

Very cool, it would be cool to talk at some point.

@lifeasweknowit5280 The fox and hound is the directional beaper that tracks the signal down a wire.
Oh I see, yeah we call it a Locater. The brand is called pipe horn
you definitely can pull fiber. it has incredible tensile strength.
So do you leave a pull rope in the conduit for the next guy?
Usually but I did leave one in the 4”. I should have
Why is the MH buried
Can you say how much this job will cost the end customer?
I can’t
Colorado? Where?
480 to the south of you?
Yes we work all over Colorado.
they burry the man hole covers like that? just skimming through video on silent.
I believe the Man Hole got covered during construction on the road and when the warehouses were being built. They don’t normally cover them
