He is, he's layering the guitars through out (except for when he adds the kick during the 2nd verse) - so you notice the guitars getting more complex and progressively louder. It's the same chords so it isn't dissonant.
Does anyone know what happened around 2:09? He has pre-set his “boom” track to record his guitar-drum, swapped to “play mode”, turned on every track, and then went back to layer in the drum. Started drumming on the first beat at 2:09, and stopped on the 8th beat. But then when he stops recording (and he seems visibly confused as well), the drum skips a few beats before it hops in, right when he starts strumming. How did that happen? Possibly his backstage hand fucking with a fader or something? Because as far as I can tell, it was all timed properly, and over-dub had been on more than long enough. Wondering if maybe his stage hand cut he feed from his drum-guitar before he started hitting it, so he didn’t accidentally layer in some strumming into the wrong track?
I didn’t notice any missing drum beat, he records it perfectly timed, and as soon as the loop gets to the end he stops hitting the guitar and you hear the looped version “take over”, despite being in play mode the pedal will still record (Just to clarity)
@@brodyoliverbassett7579 Listening to it again at my desk with headphones - I think that it just comes in a bit quieter in the loop vs the live playing and I couldn't hear the first 4 beats in the mix on my phone when watching it.
@@DuggsTube yeah, the pedal volume is Always quieter than the “live” instruments (FOH), sometimes the loop volume is really low when Ed’s team aren’t handling that aspect of the sound
@@brodyoliverbassett7579 I'm not sure why he would be in the overdub (orange) mode for so much of the performance. From 2:52 to 3:35 he plays a total of 8 full loops seemingly in an overdub mode while playing the same layer. My guess would be that recording 8 loops of the same thing would only muddy the mix a lot without much benefit. Do you think there's any reason he would do that?
@@eldronado honestly no idea, I wouldn’t have guessed that he did that without having seen the recordings of it, but his guitar input in so clean and his timing so perfect that I guess he can get away with it

Ed’s loop pedal has two modes “record mode” in which pressing any of the four pedal will select that track to record into, and the active track is indicated with the red LED. It also has “playback mode” in which by default every channel has a green LED, and each channel can be muted individually, the green LED is turned off when the channel is muted. At 00:39 he first stops recording, then changes the selected channel to “Guitar”, then changes mode, mutes the channel with the vocals he just recorded for later, and then changes mode again. Maybe watch a different video of mine to understand the basics of his loop station first
@@brodyoliverbassett7579 so what if instead of selecting the guitar channel and doing all that green light, he could simply stop the recording the press the last button to stop the "heya heya" too and then clicked the guitar channel to select that part and click again on 1st button to play the guitar channel.. This is what I'm thinking of
@@avs_lr I don’t think you understood the two modes, when the led is red, when he presses a pedal all it does is chooses where the sound he’s about to record is going to be, it doesn’t mute any channels, to mute channels he has to change to the “green mode” and then press whichever channel he wants to mute. Also he doesn’t Need to change to the guitar channel so soon, but Ed normally does everything in advance as soon as he can so he doesn’t end up forgetting later

I’m pretty sure he’s just utilizing two tracks. Kick on BOOM and The rest on Guitar. There’s no point in adding that extra pedal to the loop when the guitar part gets played at the same time through out the entire song.
Here's a video of him playing the song where you can see the pedal:ua-cam.com/video/u_ZzZnInODk/v-deo.html I've looked all over youtube and found many videos that show him adding layings on the guitar channel throught the entire song.
