I think a huge part of this match was the fact that Acola himself knows how to play Kazuya and has that knowledge. The way he'd punish riddles for breaking blocks showed that too
Nah its probably moreso that they just grinded a long time at the last summit so acola got a lot of mu knowledge
And riddles kazuya was out of practice, seemed to use terry nearly the entire time
Yeah the biggest thing i see acola do is he is consistently very aware of when he can get a punish and he almost always chooses the optimal move to punish with. He is very different than most Steves that just throw everything out without paying attention or reacting to the opponent. Acola is just a very good and smart player who happens to play an extremely strong character and this is the result

Yes, Steve is unfair, BUT Acola knew how every single one of Terry's moves work. He punished everything, even if they weren't considered mistakes.

The main problem with kazuya imo is his weight. Sure he has his invisible 0 to death and EWGF and other BS but god damn he lives for a long ass time.

Honestly riddles missed a bunch of cues and should have adjusted his Kazuya game plan away from going so hard for the electric fist combos and mixing it up. He could've won w kazuya. W terry he missed a lot of openings, he felt that 0-2 pressure.

I quit this game. I watched Light vs Marss. I got inspired to play again. I saw this set. Nvm.
As strong as Steve is, we can't just ignore how bad people play this match up. It's 2023 and people still get hit by anvils even though it's like 80% of the options when Steve is above you. People still get pressured by TNT even though, you should have to pick a ledge option other than get up and mindless second jump aerials and/or side Bs.
Riddles has a solid punish game and decent neutral, but his disadvantage is one of the worst in the top 10. He almost never mixes up ledge options. You can bet it's some kind of stupid aggressive option and you can bet he's gonna drop out of the tournament because of it. A little bit of patience and the occasional read would make him a terrifying player considering the characters he plays can just 0-death you.

You gotta admit, the caliber that あcola plays in is just best of the world. He’s the best Steve in the world for a reason. Amazing job! Riddles doing zero to death on the first game was clutch though. Respect to both players. I don’t understand all the Steve hate, I hate Minecraft but I love watching these characters battle in smash.
It's because people can't stand the thought of any playstyle but rushdown unga bunga being legitimate.
People mostly hate Steve because his optimal gameplay is to camp behind walls, not interacting with his opponent.
I hate Steve lol, I can fight kazuya players but playing a good Steve is like playing a whole different game.

Riddles needs to learn to use kazuya’s reflect, despite it having a slow start up he’ll need it to counter the 2 main projectiles he gets punished at. Cart and anvil.
I think its a bit harder than that. You basically have to be 3 steps ahead to even do the refelct. Its not an easy input to just throw out
@@Sheamus1212 true true, idk why sakurai made the input like that tbh😭. But he could also do the reflect out of crouch dash thou, which is somewhat easier than inputting it normally. Riddles would just have to adapt and read Steve. It’s possible

Steve is more cancer than sonic by far, 0 engage then just endless options to eliminate punish options. If steve gets knocked up then anvil, if he gets knocked to the side then cart, if he gets attacked from above then lava block. If you’re on ledge then tnt and lava. If you manage to beat all that then camp off stage and mine for a time out if you have a lead.
Looks easy on screen, but actually take the time and try to replicate what あcola does. No one can do it at this skill level. He’s best in Japan for a reason
