Neo mentioned post interview he wanted to cry after the ending cause he was heart broken. like he froze for 5 seconds. hurt to hear him say it, and he seems like such a genuine competitor.
Did he say if that forward smash was a misinput? It seems so odd that right at the end Neo would take such a huge gamble. Maybe the pressure was getting to him.

@@timjim7163 yeah I had considered that too, but man that was too risky. And as we saw cost him the game 😞 It was still an explosive match for sure, maybe next time.
@@Dribin Neo said on twitter During the last hit situation at the acola set, the reason why he fsmashed is because acolas sheild was small so there's no way acola could roll out and sheild SDI on time, so there was like a 66% chance that F-Smash wouldve hit and ended the game, he just got unlucky and lost that gamble
Seeing Corrin dodge everything and almost win against the world's best player with no projectiles,etc. was insane. This was his moment he deserved to win
Except for the part where he whiffed that one forward smash at the end.

At the very end, Neo saw Acola's shield and tried to go for an fsmash to trap him in shield. Acola knew from a similar situation that occurred previously during the set that Neo would try to abuse Steve's bad shield. Because of this, he decided to dance back in forth and shield, baiting Neo's fsmash with a roll in because he knew he could kill cross-stage with diamond fsmash. He conditioned Neo into thinking that he was simply going to hold shield again and countered at the most crucial moment, as he had no other resources. Steve may be broken, but that was an insane play. In the end, Neo played very well, but he had one his character's strengths used against him.

@@KingObliv I think that, on paper, the MU is pretty even, if not slightly winning for Corrin. This is because Corrin has an amazing punish game, an oppressive advantage state, and massive disjoints. Corrin is also faster than Steve, which helps them play both offensively and defensively. The combination of Corrin's range and speed can make it hard for Steve to actually get in a lot of the time without committing to a punishable option. It also allows Corrin to deal with Steve's blocks much more safely. The size of Corrin's aerials makes it so that with proper spacing, Steve can't rely on footstool dair.
A lot of Corrin's moves are very good against Steve's kit. For instance, Corrin's uair beats out Anvil and frametraps airdodges, making Steve susceptible to being juggled. Bair is also a great tool in the MU, as it moves Corrin out of the way while throwing out a large, fast hitbox. This is good for a number of applications, including breaking blocks, edgeguarding, beating out Minecart, recovering, and throwing out retreating air-to-airs. Another good tool Corrin has against Steve is Pin, which allows them to edgeguard and ledgetrap Steve without potentially getting reversaled or giving up stage control. It's also good for punishing airdodges, as Steve lacks airspeed and air acceleration. Fsmash is good for checking Steve if he's shielding too much, and fair is great for applying pressure and starting combos from a safe distance. Neutral B is a strong kill move and can also be used to annoy Steve if he's mining without walls up. Dair goes through Steve's usmash.
Against Corrin, Steve has much less room to run around, which means it's harder to get both stage control and materials. Pair this with Steve's lack of range as well as the fact that Corrin has long lasting combos and frametraps that lead into huge positional and percent gains, and you get a character that excels at both matching Steve's punish game and denying him chances to use or gain materials. However, Steve can just hit you can kill you, so that's why I only say that Corrin wins or goes even on paper, but then again, you can SDI out of a lot of Steve's combos. Honestly, Corrin might even be better in the MU than Cloud, depending on how you play them.
Neo and Corrin had an incredible run this tournament. Neo being the only one to take acola to Game 5. Great set.

Neo plays offensive type playstyle
SHADIC plays the patient way
Ly plays safe/not get hit
Aside from that, Neo and SHADIC excels at combo conversions and advantage stages while Ly slowly takes his time more than the other two

リアルタイムでみてて1-2になったあたりからあcolaが空中攻撃ジャスガマシーンになってジャスガしまくる男vsジャスガしても反確とれない位置で技ふる男っていう戦いになってて完全アウェーのなかあcolaが見事勝ちを掴み取ったの見て感動しベストバウトだと思ったのにここのコメントスティーブの事しか言ってない。
スティーブアンチって多分試合見てないよな面白いとか面白くないとか以前にスティーブが負けたって結果にしか興味無いんだろうなーと思った
本当にそれな、結局スティーブを使ってもこんだけ勝ち上がってる勝ち切ってるのあcolaしかいないし、この努力を評価すべき

Neo played insane, my gosh, really wish he won there.
And I know people complain about Steve, I absolutely get the complaints, but there’s something about Acola’s Steve that’s fun to watch. Both players were phenomenal here.

He literally does the same thing every other higher level Steve does. He's a good player but I don't see how his play is that different from other top Steves. He's more efficient and consistent but the play style is exactly the same.
@@ItzMeNidoIsn't that true for any character? Any character will keep on doing their good moves consistently and efficiently if they are good?
@@fireatack It's true for most I'd say. There are some exceptions esp when a character has multiple moves that are good in different ways. Like some brawlers are more combo heavy vs others who value neutral more. Marss' zss is/was VERY rushdown vs some others who basically only z-air until kill percent etc.
I don't know if Acola is distinguishable from other Steves in this manner tbo. When the Steve train first started he was imo noticeably more aggressive than most; however now it looks like Steves in general are trending towards how he used to play.
Speaking of, am I missing something important in thinking whenever Steve recovers to ledge he might as well drop down, place block, and mine a few? Like unless an opponent shows counterplay capabilities it's literally free material no?
What an incredible set. Both players should be so proud. You can see how badly they both wanted this, especially Neo. After watching such amazing play, I have no doubt he will be back and on top soon. Acola showed poise and fought back to win even in a highly emotional and pro-Neo environment. Inspiring.
This was my grand finals tbh.

This is exactly why Mkleo needs to start believing in the Corrin again. Corrin does much better against Steve, Sonic, Kazuya, and Pikachu than Byleth/Joker. Neo also beat Tweek this tournament, so maybe add Diddy Kong to that list as well

@@Spyder-Marth Yea, Corrin is definitely a solid high-tier. Right around where Byleth is on the tier list, but very powerful options against certain characters. Neo didn't show it in this set, but Corrin can counter Steve's anvil and kill Steve off the top super early. Her down-air is one of the only down-airs in the game that will beat Steve's up-smash, etc.

The commentators were rooting against acola the entire time... the crowd is roaring for neo... everyone is on the edge of their seats and then neo gets f smashed and you can only hear "NOOOO" (chuck was literally begging neo to win you can hear it throughout the set😂)

I love it when a very niche character makes the run of a lifetime and it feels greater when you main that character.
And seeing it being pushed to game 5 last hit against the best character in the game is such a great motivator.
You understand why this character could be great but no one’s shown it yet.

Corrin's a very underrated character, in my opinion they've got the best back air in the game. With Corrin having so many ranged moves and a strong and armored recovery, I really think they're a great counter-pick against Steve. Props to Neo for bringing Acola to game 5.

ok but imagine the alternative universe where he wins 3-0's Dabuz because he sucks 1-3's Acola and then 3-2's Acola in the reset that would've been the good ending although similar to Smash Con last year the winner would've been much worse than someone who should win Smash Con so Acola fits he was the best player I just wish Sonix and Sparg0 didn't throw the tournament so they could beat him
Neo is the player who has pushed Acola the most in this tournament. In the end, we lost unfortunately, but it's true that he became a threat to Acola.

I think Corrin beats Steve, but acola just played better. Neo kept getting hit by minecart when Corrin's aerials should be able to beat it out and punish. Needs more matchup practice
I agree. People laughed at me when I said Corrin does well vs. Steve and now look, Acola nearly lost to one because his main tools were getting beat out.
Corrin has a lot of good tools versus Steve, but absolutely does not beat Steve
yeah just block recovery and spam smash attacks hoping it hits is definitely skill issue
@@KevSB07this . Seems to me that Steve naturally wins the neutral & Corrin is basically playing out of disadvantage the whole set & gets damage by punishing Steve’s advantage attempts . Neo was running for his life a lot of this set
@@problemsnearyou8899 But that's exactly the problem: he kept running away and ceding stage control, instead of pressuring and outranging Steve in neutral. Corrin has the range to avoid punishes even on parries because Steve is so slow
