    Great video, glad you stressed sanitation it's so important, especially if you have more than one yard.

    To each their own, I like my plastic foundations :-) most keepers use plastic because it adds strength and structure for spinning honey. But I also get into my hives more then many keepers and don't allow my girls wonky comb. That's the best thing about beekeeping there are so many styles, opinions and techniques it helps keep the beekeeping industry fresh and moving forward. Ty for sharing your time, Blessed Days...

      After putting together 100 wax frames yeah I like plastic too 🤣 but my bees are drawing out that wax so crazy quick and I want to be able to do cut outs when needed so I’ll probably stick with wax.

    Sacbrood can be dealt-with by a healthy colony. If you have it, change the queen.

    Funny, you're the second keeper I've heard recently that has said not to use plastic frames, we have not had any problems with it! I wonder what makes the difference in colonies that accept them and the ones that don't.

      I think it's the method at which you apply extra wax. I use a foam roller,hold the frame up so you are painting the bottom as not to let the wax fill the cells. Use a very soft stroke and it will begin to draw the cells, only depositing wax on the rim. The bees will continue what you started right away! I have had bad luck when thick wax was applied improperly 👍

      @@chadmckenzie4017 we buy it already waxed (most of the time) and they take right to it!

      Thank you for this tip! Hmmm sounds like maybe I waxed them too thick then! I let the wax fill some of the cells. I guess there is a such thing as too much wax 😳😅

      It must be how each of us are applying the wax. Took thick or too thin and they don’t like it. Has to be just right I suppose!

      Watch kaymon reynolds, he'll show the correct way to wax plastic foundations, after listening to him and seeing the success rate, I'm sold and will be trying them in future. Thanks for the close ups of about, I'll be watching for that.

    one thing i see a lot on youtube video's is beekeepers putting on foundation anytime any quantity, for best results you use good strong hives on good honey flow, put towards centre of box , preferably with combs between foundation. if you don't have a honey flow and you need those new combs feed them lots so they think they are on a honey flow after about 3 days put on the foundation and keep on feeding. it takes 5lbs of honey to make 1lb of wax. if they are not getting enough honey they are more interested in just chewing the foundation, probably use the wax elsewhere. 6 weeks before spring we have pollen coming in, no honey, 1/2 an hour before dark i pour about 1litre of sugar or honey feed over the frames, this really stirs them up ,takes hours to clean up the mess, also heats them up ,i put styrene foam on lid to keep in the heat, come spring they are very strong with maybe 10 frames of brood instead of 3. you can put your first extraction aside for use in the following winter, especially if you have used sugar. i haven't experimented but i suspect this method may work better than putting a feeder in the hive, i''ll do a test next winter.............

      Thanks for sharing! That is a great idea pouring sugar syrup for them to clean up so they start rearing up brood so that they are big by the time the flow starts. I may try that next spring!

      @beefitbeekeeping  2 роки тому +1

      I have never used goat skin gloves before so I don’t want to give you tips without knowing first hand 🙈 better bee suggests using dawn dish soap? But use the orange kind, it is supposed to kill 99.9% of bacteria and I’m pretty sure viruses too!

    My wooden frames come apart, plastic will not.I clean them off completely. I don’t coat them with wax either.

      I have an issue with my wooden frames coming apart too. Decided to use long staples to help them from coming apart. That’s interesting that your bees don’t mind the plastic! I sure wish mine were okay with it 😞

    We have no problems with plastic foundation. Where did you get yours. Does it come waxed? There may be other reasons your bees are not drawing it out right.

      Some of them were from vevor and some from mann lake. The ones from Mann lake seems to okay but the ones from vevor they won’t even touch. I coated them all myself but I didn’t have any of my own beeswax in hand so I had to buy some in bulk online so that too could also be part of it
