Glad I found this video, I thought I was good at landings but I just started tail wheel training and I don’t know anything lol. A good pilot is always learning!
When you’re on a collision course with another airplane, there is no relative movement. The other plane appears as a small dot and slowly grows (usually behind the suction cup stuck to the windshield). The good news is the GoPro documents the mid-air. Just sayin.
Good points all. I would add some energy management points from the principles in "Stick and Rudder." Along with wind management for help with takeoff and with radius of turn, we need to use the law of the roller coaster to understand what the airplane wants to do, especially in turns. It does not want to maintain altitude in turns. It wants to maintain trimmed airspeed to prevent stall. What did Wolfgang mean by trying to hit the tree about midway up and then zoom over? Is Vx or Vy ever appropriate on long runways? In a Cessna 152, what percentage of the total energy available is produced level in low ground effect for those smart enough to use it? The rapid acceleration makes the outcome of the maneuver to never be in doubt. And what about down drainage egress for those of you flying in the hills and mountains? A good pilot does not fight the airplane.
Silly question. Do you actually know or have heard of someone saying well, do you want to take another flight, no thanks I'm good, I'll pass. Or a pilot who doesn't follow checklists ? Or a pilot who gets distracted and finds themselves 300 feet off the ground ? Or a pilot who doesn't check weather, weight and balance, takeoff landing calculations, etc etc. Is this kind of thing common or somewhat common ?
@andrebello4191 i wouldn't say it's common, but happens more than it should. So many cases where pilots forgot to put landing gear down, or nearly forget. Same with accidents and you wonder if the private pilots ever considered the weather forecasts...
@@J1Aviation Makes sense. The landing gear thing happens sometimes too I hear about that. The traffic pattern gets busy I guess. Ya and I do hear about accidents due to weather sometimes. If the weather is crap better to wait it out. Unless you know you are able to handle it. They either don't check or think they can handle it. Have somewhere to be so they take chances they shouldn't. Need to be IFR or IMC rated plus have practice in bad weather plus you kinda have to know what your dealing with and if you are able to. Your plane's abilities too.
@andrebello4191 all good points. I think like anything, you do something enough times and carelessness just starts to creep in. You generally get away with it, until you don't.
A good pilot is always learning :)
@@jayshuntingandaviation7294 There is always more to learn

@andrewseneker7515 yeah that's a great saying. Good luck on the tailwheel training!!! That's something on my list to do some day!
I totally recommend it for any pilot it really overall makes you a better pilot in my opinion, worth the money too!

@debonaviation so be mindful of the blocked airspace on the gopro. Thanks for the tip, next time I'll have to confirm location and visibility.
Good advice. And, yes, I've had tons of repeat passengers.
@@gnagyusa awesome, glad to hear!

All great points! I have the book "stick and rudder" on my reading list, actually haven't read it yet. A good pilot consists of quite a few things!
I love you y get to the point right away. Great video.
@jbroheretoday glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
Thanks - I enjoyed this.
@AnthonyFrancisJones glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!

Read “The Killing Zone” it is a great book and you’ll find all of the above lol

@jmizzonini I'll need to add that book to my list, thanks
I see so many pilots breaking rules and doing stupid shit.
Good pilot 😊
@betsydirks me too ✈️ thanks for watching!
I'm a broke pilot 😂
@flyinghigh5031 haha, yeah I feel your pain! Sounds like a great video name.
