    A heavier aircraft stalls at a higher speed???

    • @J1Aviation
      @J1Aviation 2 дні тому

      Correct. Stall speed increases as weight increases, since a wing would need to be at a higher angle of attack to create enough lift for a given airspeed.

    Minimums should ideally be evaluated while planning, for example in cruise or even before you step in the aircraft to avoid any workload pressure, time pressure or expectation bias from creeping in.

      @KlintonWyont i see what you are saying. High pressure can be nice weather, and low pressures can be unstable, but when it's talking about stable air mass, basically it's one that resists convective. So things like foggy days, steady state rain, stratus clouds etc...

    What is a VOR?!😢

    • @ozzy2027
      @ozzy2027 13 днів тому

      Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range. Essentially, you use radio signals to navigate by tuning into certain frequencies. It kind of acts like waypoints along a route.

  • @jdhflys
    @jdhflys 13 днів тому

    Airplane VOR (Very High-Frequency Omnidirectional Range) checks are essential to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the navigation system. Here are the key points regarding VOR checks, including methods, requirements, and regulations: Regulatory Reference • FAA regulations in 14 CFR 91.171 require VOR checks for IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) operations. Frequency of Checks • VOR checks must be conducted within the preceding 30 calendar days before a flight under IFR. Permissible Error • The maximum allowable error depends on the method used: • Ground Check: ±4° • Airborne Check: ±6° • Dual VOR Check: ±4° between the two receivers Methods for VOR Checks 1. Ground Checkpoint • Many airports have designated VOR test facilities (VOTs) or checkpoints. • Tune to the test frequency or designated checkpoint frequency. • The CDI (Course Deviation Indicator) should indicate 0° with a “TO” flag or 180° with a “FROM” flag. • Permissible error: ±4°. 2. Airborne Checkpoint • Checkpoints are published in the Chart Supplement (formerly Airport/Facility Directory). • Fly over the checkpoint at the published altitude and radial. • Permissible error: ±6°. 3. Dual VOR Check • In an aircraft equipped with two independent VOR receivers, tune both to the same VOR. • Compare the two indications. • Permissible difference: ±4°. 4. VOT (VOR Test Facility) • A VOT broadcasts a specific radial for testing (typically 360°). • Tune the frequency and verify the CDI aligns with the published radial. • Permissible error: ±4°. 5. Self-Test • Rotate the OBS (Omni-Bearing Selector) to check needle deflection. • Ensure the needle centers appropriately and flags function correctly. Recording VOR Checks You must document the following details after completing a VOR check: 1. Date of the check. 2. Place or location of the check. 3. Bearing Error (e.g., +2°, -3°). 4. Signature of the person performing the check (pilot’s initials are sufficient for personal checks). Tips • Always reference the Chart Supplement for the most up-to-date VOR test facilities and checkpoints. • Conduct VOR checks during routine pre-flight checks if IFR is anticipated. • Use redundancy (e.g., dual VORs) to ensure reliability.

      @J1Aviation Have you had the pleasure of flying the Piper Warrior II? In 1974, the semi-tapered wing was introduced. NACA 652-415 profile. It's two feet longer and has phenomenal control during a full stall. When the air separates, you'll get a gentle buffet followed by a gentle pitch down while holding the yoke in a full pitch up position and not reliving the back pressure. With the ball centered and neutral rudder, the Warrior descends at about 800 feet per minute while it pitches up, buffets, pitches down in this stable cycle. It feels as if the airplane recovers from the stall on its own. Although it's still descending @ 800 ft. per min...
