Great video! Here I am, ready to do this with my 1999 Nissan Quest. I am stressed out about what timing light I need, and wow, you're just using a basic one. I love it!
I think you need to disconnect the tps before attempting to adjust timing and reconnect after you're all done, according to the book. But it is a good video.
This is not the book procedure. But I hope it worked for you. Mine has been a nightmare. Rebuilt the engine, everything new. Three lifters have failed and my belt timing is perfect. I bought aftermarket lifters. I now have Ford original equipment lifters coming for it. NOS Ford . They used the VG33E engines in some of their models.
This helped out tremendously! The local shops were charging $300 plus and were all backed up on appointments. On the timing gun, does the angle need to be at the 10° mark as well? I think I have it right but just double checking. Thanks
Im STILL getting a code for knock sensor. I've done the relocation, did it the same way everyone does. Double and triple checked to make sure i did it right. I've cleared the codes twice now. Next question...if my timing is off could that be causing the knock sensor issue?
@@FixingWithPassion ok. Everything is leaning to a bad knock sensor. Even though its not even a week old. I've double and triple checked the wiring. Gotta be the sensor.
Great video ! did u notice in increaze in mpg post timing adjustment ? i changed my timing belt about 6000 miles ago and i never adjusted timing. she runs good but my mpg isn't what it could be (12 mpg average) and its a 5 speed.
Mine is set correctly at the 3rd mark and runs good for about 50 seconds or so then jumps ALL over the place,, idles rough then goes bad to the 3rd mark runs smoothly then jumps….. what would cause this??
I have a 2004 Xterra 4x4 that i bought for 500 bucks with 277,000 miles on it, Everything works on this vehicle except it had no reverse, i thought it would be a soilinoid or something simple, Oh boy!it was NOT! i ended up doing a total rebuild of the RE401 A transmission. The steels and disc were ok and the 4x4 worked even the overdrive but the brass bushing on the reverse drum was completely gone. I bought a new pump new stator new converter and a 300 dollar rebuild kit , ot it all back in but it runs like shit idle is up and down up and down then smooths out, i replaced the fuel pressure regulator and its better but it just has NO POWER and feels like its always in second gear starting out. Ive replaced the plugs wires cap rotor and every sensor, i didnt realize how critical the adjustment of the throttle position sensor was but i used a volt meter and got it where its supposed to be. the last sensor i bought is the one that rides over the flexplate on top of the transmission I yanked it out when i dropped the transmission ruining the plug so i bought a new pigtail , i tested the crank sensor and tried to simulate a spinning flywheel but even on milivolts i couldnt see anything out of it.so i bought a new one . Somebody says you need an ocyliscope to see the wave form it makes. I guess it sends a variable pulse to the ECM but when i disconnected it the engine didnt do anything or change RPMs I dont know what the data from that sensor even controls the shiting of the transmission or the fuel delivery. The engine ran perfectly before i put the trans back in so i definitely disturbed something. I have 2 square body chevy trucks i totally restored but this truck has kicked my ass at every turn! I didnt know what all these sensors even did completely so im still learning as i go. The next thing is the distributor, ive replaced everything else. My code reader says random misfires and you can hear it come and go in the exhaust, its so smooth for 2 or 3 seconds then sounds like its misfiring then smooths right back out.The transmission seems to shift from 2 to 3 but not to 4th. i may have to look at the valve body maybe some of that green trans lube stopped up a tiny passage or a wire isnt connected all the way on the valve body.
Bro that’s my problem it’s at 15 then goes up up up then goes back down idk man it’s a 02 3.3 v6 4x4 and it’s thought exhaust white out the tail pipe lol I posted a vid I have the p0300 random misfire I’m gonna try the coil pack inside distributor

Wow man! Great!!
Before you check and adjust the timing disconnect the bottom plug on the TPS sensor!! Good luck!!
I think you need to disconnect the tps before attempting to adjust timing and reconnect after you're all done, according to the book.
But it is a good video.
Thar's correct TPS Brown connector must be disconnected while adjusting (rotating) distributor and using Timing Light.
@@faustogonzalez8397 yep
@@faustogonzalez8397 mine stalls when I disconnect the tps brown connector, any idea why?

It was slow to start then it ran prefect from there on.
Didnt even know you could time these bad boys, thanks for the upload!
Great explanation. Thanks
Nice!!
mi friend, you need to disconnect the brown electrical connector on the throttle body
from florida with thanks.
thanks, man !
Word!!
Dont you have to unplug bottom tps sensor?
?
You need to unplug the throttle position sensor to set base timing

Is this the same for a 1999 v6 frontier Nissan truck ? Or do I have to disconnect tps?

Yea! I went through 3 before I got a good one!! Also check the wire make sure it ok.
Timing issues won't give you a bad knock sensor.
@@FixingWithPassion ok. Everything is leaning to a bad knock sensor. Even though its not even a week old. I've double and triple checked the wiring. Gotta be the sensor.
@@FixingWithPassion what knock sensor are you using? One for a maxima or one for the vg33?

Hey boss where can I find the dimple mark by the crank to line up with
The same places (dots) that he painted white. I assume this is done to better see them when lit up. Your pully should have the dents/dots.
I see some comments about unplugging the tps, on the instructions on hood sticker it says nothing about that. Is it different for trucks vs extera

I don't have a distrubotor
the cars in great shape and really great shape hate to junk it
i have a 2002 nissan Xtrera and i replaced my water pump and doing so i knck the timing belt off timing how can i get back on track.
Put back on.
My Nissan xterra sucks on fuel. 206 miles on a tank of gas. 17 gallons 12 miles to gallon. What is everyone else getting.
Try Royal Purple Max Clean and make sure your air filter is clean. Helped me out. Definitely worth a shot.
