FYI to all that watch this video. I'm no expert but you don't always snap in the throw out bearing. I'm working with manual 3speed trans and a chevy 327 motor. You don't snap in the bearing. Rather place it in about half way then line up trans, etc. This vid caused me some confusion. But thanks for the effort and explanation on clips.
@gordysuggs If the bearing is installed incorrectly it will have an air gap between the fork and the bearing riding surface. This will cause the car to not want to go into gear. The reason is because the hydraulic system has to take up the 0.200” gap and runs out of stroke to complete the release process. It will also cause the pedal to have a spring back feel. Thanks, AMS Tech
what happens if the release bearing is not installed right...will the car go into gear without using the clutch and wont move because a mechanic installed a new clutch press. plate, flywheel, realease and TOB and that is what happened
The dealership put it wrong on my dad's 75 Pontiac Lemans me and my brother and my dad fixed it at a do it yourself place now when you pushed the clutch it was solid
I can’t tell you how many idiot mechanics notice how I didn’t say technicians have installed these wrong. I’ve been working on cars since I was a little kid unfortunately, my truck got a wreck and the transmission needed to be replaced along with the clutch so was in the shop. I went ahead and paid for the extra services since it was already there to get all that done as well. After a few months, I can no longer put the truck in gear. I took the transmission out myself and looked and of course they installed it incorrectly. I brought everything back to the shop just to show them and they told me I was an idiot so I showed them this video. You should’ve seen how lemon faced they got 😂
thanks for telling all the new guys which way the lobes are supposed to go

Thank you, with it all the way snapped in, it cannot pivot correctly. I've been sitting here holding off because I did not want to install it wrong.
Used this video to resolve a dispute as to which way was correct, thanks!
Would installing the new bearing incorrectly cause a chevy 1500 4.3 4x4 to only work in first and second gear?
Just installed mine wrong, started before compressing slave cylinder Now no start

could this cause a clicking noise when clutch is disengaged? i can't figure out whats causing this noise! please help!
Yes, installation of the clips in the incorrect position can cause a no release and noise problem.
wasnt the problem. my fork doesnt have a mounting rivet :/ its almost impossible to install incorrectly

@gordysuggs OK. so what would cause the car to go into all gears while running without pressing the clutch
My 65 C10 has a clutch fork without the clips , four speed trans
Is the edge of the bearing supposed to contact the inside curve of the fork when snapped in?
No. Bad video.
It's shocking how many so called journeyman mechanics get this wrong.
God bless you my friend.thanks to ideas my friend.new subscribe.
