Woodturning | Highland Cow
In this video you'll see me woodturning a Highland Cow Ornament, (known in Scotland as a 'Coo") on my wood lathe. The Highland Cow is probably the cutest cow in the worl!
This was a really fun project, possibly my favourite turning to date. I'm going to be making these guys to sell in my Etsy store.
If you're a beginner, like myself, you can turn a cool wooden pet, he's really tactile and I know you'll love him, you will see me woodturning a Highland cow ornament and wonder how it was ever even possible!
I used a chunk of scrap pine for his body as this is eventually covered in fluffy fabric and a small piece of Scottish Elm for his head!
With a little imagination, you could make any animal. I was inspired by a video by Andy's Cornish Creations, his link is below, he turned a small sheep in this design and I've also soon machine produced versions for sale in shops - I decided sheep were cute enough but what the world needed was a Highland Cow version!!

Wow! That's possibly the coolest project I've seen you do to date! The first thing I thought when I saw those eyes were that you could do a Guinea pig too. Although probably not one for woodturning since every bit would need to be covered with fur 😂

So the cow is called Jim, is that a tribute to Mr. Overton? Nice guy with a great channel, but like the cows on my childhood farm, not so furry... By the way cow in Swedish is spelled "ko" and pronounced just like "coo", if you ever go to Sweden and need to communicate with a local farmer...
I’ve been worried about not being able to communicate with Swedish farmers - this is why I love having you as a subscriber - you keep me well informed!!
