Rembrandt & Velazquez

This video is about my two favorite painters. Rembrandt from the Netherlands, and Velazquez from Spain. They (together with Johannes Vermeer) are considered “the Masters of Light”. Both lived early 17th century but in totally different environments. They never knew each other, they never saw the work of the other, but still their revolutionary painting styles are very similar.
This short 3 minute video explains the key similarities and differences.
I created this video in 2019, the 350th anniversary year of Rembrandt’s death (1569). This year both El Prado (Madrid) and Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) have an exhibition where you can see various of the paintings of Velazquez next to the paintings of Rembrandt.
