As a senior it scares me. I almost died twice in rehab. Even with expensive care we are not safe with private owned medical facilities. Congress gets the best care . We the people dont.

Anyone that says all we can do is "vote blue no matter who because the GOP is worse" is not only living in a fantasy but also contributing to a narrative of ignorance that appeals to feeling in control. We die if either party maintains control. Tell people, talk about it. Theyre not going to put it on the tv. You can be upset about it but our options are worse than people are admitting and that's a fact.
Why do you think even the Dems in congress gave Biden a standing ovation when he said we need to increase police funding? Our policing budget in this country is already bloated and obscene. It would rank third in the world for defense budgets among countries. Increasing that is insanity and people on the left are just shrugging it off. Dems and Republicans gave him a standing ovation for that because their fear is that we turn on them. They want the police to have the best military and riot gear available for when the poors get angry and hungry. The days of lesser evil are over and the most vulnerable in this country are going to feel it first and the hardest.

If this is any consolidation, those who share Bernie's ideals are getting elected across the country including in the house in significant numbers. It is not happening fast enough and there are many valid criticisms of members like the justice Democrats, who fall within the category I just described, but we are moving in the right direction on some aspects.
Right now we are in a time where we have to fight for basic human rights and while that sucks we need to realize that we have many many allies amongst each other. If there is any advantage we have over other political groups, like most Republicans, it's that the ideals and policies we push for are objectively right morally and economically. Now we just need to make sure everyone knows it by fighting for them in every public space we are in.

As a Brit, I think one of the flaws of America is shown through the lack of backing Bernie genuinely gets. Understand that in the uk we’ve had our free healthcare since 1948 through the NHS. It is one of the most treasured services in our country. Bernie is literally giving you the opportunity to at least have the chance that you can also have the service, however there are people that call it ‘communism’. I just don’t get how blind some people in the US are that they won’t even acknowledge that it should be a human right. It’s just so annoying haha.

Don't be fooled into thinking the British National Health Service is treasured. It is a money pit and not fit for purpose. The cost is immense and constantly rising. This is why it seems like too many people still vote Republican. Their amount stays the same while the other is kept small by force. This intent to target political enemies with state violence has been active and running for 50 years. If you take an even split of who wants pizza or burgers then jail, kill, or otherwise intimidate 20% of one sides voters, the remaining side will be a super majority. This then creates the third way effect where since now pizza is your only option, extreme pizza is normal and anybody who wants burgers at all is an extremist by the numbers.
I don't think it's a coincidence we're seeing more progressives in offices after states started legalizing the states hall pass to commit crimes against humanity, i mean weed.

Here's the thing, voting for Bernie was NOT and will NEVER be enough. In order for Bernie to ever be elected President, supporters need to Actively join his Grassroots Campaign. People love that Bernie runs such campaigns, but ignore the fact that THEY are the Grassroots and need to Actively work to get him elected.
If everyone who supported Bernie in his last campaign had volunteered just 4 hours to get out the vote for Bernie in the first part of his campaign, perhaps people wouldn't have listened to Obama and and the other Democrat Leadership oligarchs when they said ONLY Biden could beat Trump. The more we tax the wealthy, the less inclined they are to do business here as opposed to overseas. We can throw more taxes and red tape at businesses all we want, but by large it'll only effect small to medium sized businesses. We already saw this with covid - places shut down and all the small mom and pop shops shriveled up and died overnight, but the megacorporations remain largely unaffected. As a matter of fact, they're doing better now because most of their competition just closed up shop. We don't necessarily need to cut down the wealthy people, we just need to stop letting them run wild and buying legislation. We need to stop allowing representatives and their spouses to dabble in the stock market whilst simultaneously writing laws that effect the stock market. We need to allow retail investors access to trading cryptocurrencies with leverage and without capital gains tax. You basically have to be a lawyer to open a lemonade stand in the USA, and then we wonder why the only people selling lemonade are multimillion dollar corporations with teams of lawyers that work day and night to decrease your ability to sell lemonade and increase theirs. The situation is too far gone to be corrected by merely raising taxes. They're already paying ridiculous percentages in taxes but it doesn't seem to stop them from doing this kind of stuff, does it? There needs to be criminal consequences for insider trading for a start. I'm not going to pretend to know how to fix the economy, but it's clear that simply raising taxes on the wealthy isn't cutting it.
One example that comes to mind is the legalization of cannabis happening across the country. While I strongly support the idea, they've managed to make a mess of it. In just about every state that has decriminalized/legalized cannabis, only companies that already have access to financial resources even have a chance of getting involved. In West Virginia, you can be arrested and thrown in jail for possession of cannabis, but if you have $2m of capital, you can apply for a permit to grow medical. Many states have limited licensing programs with TONS of red tape. We're not legalizing cannabis, we're legalizing companies' ability to create an oligopoly. Out of 34 states that have "legalized" cannabis, only 18 (including D.C.) allow some form of home grow, and most of them limit you to 3, 6, or 12 plants. However, if you have a bunch of money to pay lawyers to draw up a business plan, and your competitors can literally be thrown in jail for decades for doing the same exact thing without proper licensing (that has been intentionally made very difficult and expensive to get in almost every state), you're basically buying a license to print money. Why is it ok for a select handful of companies to grow, process, and distribute cannabis on a massive scale, but regular people can't even be trusted to even grow their own!? The only reason we're seeing cannabis become legal now is because groups of corporations with deep pockets are the ones writing up the laws that basically say only they're allowed to make money. It's almost as absurd as saying "Ok, let's legalize alcohol" and then letting Al Capone personally come up with the legal infrastructure to operate under. The companies get their license to print money, the government gets to rake in millions in tax revenue (which for some reason never seems to get spent to help you), and the people get to buy weed from the companies and/or get arrested for possessing/using/growing/processing/buying/selling cannabis outside the system they've created for themselves.
The problem is much, much, much deeper than tax rates. It's corrupt from the bottom up, inside and out.
Sanders and Biden often talk about the disparity in wealth, the tax loop holes and how the rich don't pay their fair share of taxes. Tax codes / tax laws are created and enacted by Congress. The House of Representatives creates and writes tax codes which then sends them to the Senate and then approved by the President. Bernie Sanders has been in Congress for 32 years. Joe Biden has been in politics for over 50 years. For over a year, the Dems have had the majority of the house, the senate and the oval office. The truth is Sanders and Biden are the creators of the current tax codes, tax laws and tax loop holes. They play a good game pretending to really care about the middle class but they go home to their multi million dollar estates every night. Sanders recently purchased a $ 675,000 water front vacation home and here he sings a song of caring for the poor. Hypocrisy at it's highest level.

This energetic man (once a distance runner) speaks quite fluently and clearly. Some people stay quite lucid and alert well into their nineties. You see, we already have democratic socialism. Things like social security, libraries, parks, the public school system are all really easy examples to look at to pint out the benefits of socialist uses of our tax dollars. To believe that we spend around 778 billion on our defense budget annually (which is more than the next 11 countries combined) but that we don’t have money to provide systems for US citizens such as universal health care et al, is silly.
