The ultra rich conservative ghouls that run the country (world) would never allow it to happen. I'm sure Bernie knew that deep down too, but he tried anyways because he's an amazing person.

More of us need to get into running for any type of office and truly be a representative of the people, no matter left or right. We are more divided than ever and it’s by design. If both sides came together it would be easy to give everyday working Americans dignity again and put oligarchs down the ladder to even the field
To be fair, 30 years ago, Bernie was a strong, truthful progressive voice. He's been the most principled and consistent politician in America for decades now. It's just, no one was listening. We aren't even really listening now... Thankful for this podcast though, we will take every bit of his strength and truthfulness we can
Unfortunately that would mean he's not Bernie. Part of what I love about Bernie is how consistent he is even in the past when that made him a radical.

I want more of this. I live in Finland where we have a somewhat good welfare state and Bernie is one of the few who want that same basic good thing for the most powerful country on earth. There is no excuse to have any poor people in a country that wealthy.

Bernie was, is, and always will be the voice of truth, justice, and peace. MY PRESIDENT. He never has to search for a word. I am 3 months younger than Bernie, but the world has worn me down to a state of near despair.....but I still have hope. It's all because of this great man who says again and again: "Not me, US." I hope the progressive movement continues to grow with the younger generations. Bernie is sooooooo young because he looks to the future, not the past. Yes, Bernie, it's a war for the hearts and minds of everyone. The dem. establishment MUST pay attention. This is a great podcast.

Back in the oughties', I was friends with some German Expats and we talked about the German social welfare system. Something one of them said to me has stuck with me to this day: "I don't vote for social programs because I'm a kind and giving person. I vote for social programs because I want the house next to mine to be nice to look at too." It's an odd way to say it, but if we lift people out of poverty, then ugly falling-apart houses go away (because people don't have to be high-income earners to maintain them) and no one feels like they live in the ugly house on the block. Having the basics of food, shelter, and healthcare are essential. That we don't guarantee these things in the wealthiest country in the world is ludicrous. Bernie understands this.
If the society doesnt guarantee reasonable living standards to a person, why should he agree to the social contract? And without social contract its laws of jungle, might makes right, survival of the fittest.
Person who is left to the ditch has legitimate right to lash out at the society and turn to crime and violence abandoning social contract.
Whats the purpose of society if it doesnt help those in need? The origin of society was to help each other and work together...
Labor rights, paid vacations, long parental paid leave, universal healthcare, social welfare, free/very low cost tuition are bare mininum and given in every other developped western democracy besides the US.

There would be zero problem for bernie to be fit for president. At bernies age some people are dcrepit and others still run marathons, there is massive variance in mental faculties and fitness in older age.
I like to say that people with ugly hearts eventually age to match the inside, unproblematic people age like fine wine 🍷

This guy is the true essence of selfless service. Not one iota of ego. Just wants to do wants best for the unheard, the weak, the downtrodden. Always such an inspiration to be in his presence. His directive in life comes from a very, very high source.
Needed this down to earth, authentic, and honest discussion today. So much has been doom and gloom in the media and among my friends/family when it comes to politics. Bernie out here doing the real work in changing our world for the better.
Honestly if all politicians did something closer to a fireside chat, vs the rushed TV interviews, where everyone is just trying to get punchline out, it would be a lot easier to get in there heads and find out who you agree with. A hopeless dream however.

The person I responded to made a comment seemingly unaware Bernie ran but only in the primaries, meaning no Trumpers would gave voted in the Dem primary for him. To be clear, Trumpers in some States may vote in either primary. Even so, Senator Sanders didn't go through. If he had been the nominee I would have voted for him.

Canvassed for Bernie in 2016 and 2020, and I didn't realize how long it's been since I listened to him until recently. I think his message only gets more potent as we see before our eyes how our electoral system has failed us once again this year. He's refreshing unlike any other politician in my lifetime

It would be a lot more potent if he had not dropped out while winning, twice. This seems pointless. Most people will vote dems, some of the votes will get counted, some won't, the 45 supporters will say they got shafted and will be allowed to continue to destroy their own communities, and the right wing liberals will pretend they are progs again. What is the point of the discussion? Lifelong dem voter here, that hasn't changed. But we tried twice to elect Bernie and he didn't even get on the ballot. What is the point of the discussion?

I love how Bernie actually cares about things that improve the everyday lives of working Americans. Other politicians only talk about BS that increase our cost and funding wars.
This is a real problem with Democracy. The outsider speaks for the people and is heroic. While the entrenched power is vilified. It doesn’t matter who is on the inside or outside 😬 Always happens like that. When you’re on the outside it’s your job to demand improvement and when you get inside your job is to get re-elected. Listening to Bernie talk brings tears to my eyes. All the stress of knowing our systems are corrupt melt away knowing that someone so smart exists.
I wish i could give the rest of my young life to keep Bernie alive and in politics longer.
I am currently struggling to be declared disabled and burdened with $80,000 in student loans, which crippled my credit. Struggling with a broken back and epilepsy, I've finally received medical assistance and still support the progressive movement and will purchase your book (commenting now, hoping to heal and walk the picket line soon).
I am in same situation and have lost everything

Having lived through two recent Presidential elections where the electoral college prevailed over the winner of the people’s popular vote vote, I don’t want a third-such fiasco! I’m fearful of Trump prevailing 2024 in nust this manner!

I thought he was, too, until he bent the knee to Hillary in 2016 which allowed the menace of Trump to take root.

Bernie, It is always good to hear you speak! I'm an "old school" Democrat wishing for an FDR type president. Sadly, we have a dreadful choice and I am forced to vote for two candidates, one of which is not working in our best interest and the other who has demonstrated that she would just as soon leave someone in prison who was innocent to further her career. I can't vote for little Donny. No matter who wins we lose.
The democratic party has shown that it cannot meet the needs of the working people any more. I'm not going to throw my vote away on them. Like you, I'll not be voting Republican either.
To get my voice heard, I will be voting third party. I don't think a third party will win in 2024, but we need to start building for two reasons
1) if we never start, we'll never get where we want to go.
2) when Democrats stop winning elections they will be forced to listen to us again.
Stop letting Democrats hold your vote hostage! If you don't force them to earn your vote with good policy, they'll never deliver.
Biden is the most progressive president since FDR. Biden is a heck of a lot better than Trump!
