I beat Pokemon Blue Rescue Team, but the only move I could use was Explosion!

Brilliant run! I didn't know fire types took half damage from explosions; but that makes so much sense in retrospect. Should be applied to the main series too.
On a side note, I can only imagine how terrified Caterpie must have been to see 2 of the 3 legendary golems casually walk up to him and claim they were there to rescue it. It's bad enough the poor guy fell into a fissure, now he has to deal with being escorted by the two walking legendary time-bombs that have obliterated Tiny Woods off the map.
Bright side, Caterpie's got two of the largest/best bodyguards in history lol

@@ahdurinregion Not sure about "best" bodyguards. Given their primary means of attack is blowing themselves up and thus would kill Caterpie just as surely as whatever they were trying to defend Caterpie from.
This video is great! I forgot explosion wasn't a knockout in PMD unlike the Main Series. I'm surprised that the starters ended up being so important in this run. Keep up the content! You inspire me a lot.
Explosion's one of those things that's in the background, but not out in the front
I think you could theoretically do the challenge with any starter, but it's definitely easier/possible with certain starters.
Haven’t even watched yet but hoping for more PMD challenge runs in the future

i found 27:30 hilarious, "how dare you try? trying is for tryers" and how you changed the plot of the ingame conversation to a Charmander that knows Explosion at lvl 12

I had the same issue with needing to restart to game due to a softlock, but instead of Moltres, it was against Articuno! I was stuck there for days, even doing the Dungeon multiple times trying to find enough Reviver Seeds. My partner, Treecko, kept getting one shot by Powder Snow. I was a Mudkip. By restarting the game as a Totodile (still with Treecko though), I was able to manage my items well enough to be prepared for that battle, in addition to getting Ice Beam to use against Pokemon like Rayquaza.
I'm glad you said this, mainly so that I know it's not just me XD
I remember that Articuno fight being a PAIN on my first ever playthrough! Blue Rescue Team was my first Pokemon game, and I probably didn't understand all of the mechanics the way that I do now, but that first run was ROUGH
@@ahdurinregion Ruby was my first, so I had a thorough understanding of the mechanics but still got my ass kicked into a softlock. I couldn't even seem to level up enough to brute force my way through, since it destroyed my supplies. I keep named my Articunos Ward out of sheer respect for that one boss.

As a small side-note: the game would not normally let you pick a partner that is the same type as you so that you never get a big issue due to type match-ups.

If you gave me something that modifies the save to make it so me and the companion have explosion, I could do it with only it. But it would NOT be pleasant nor quick, but doable. Getting the joy seeds would be the major pain between the start of the legs.
When doing the challenge, I was very much prioritizing speed, and with the first attempt not being completely successful, but totally get you!
It would be interesting to see what level you could beat the final bosses at with just explosion and nothing else though, with Moltres needing 10 hits and the latter ones needing 7-10 as well! I'm not going to be the one to test it out lol
I was very optimistic, turns out the only ways to get xp without defeating pokemon before the end of the game is to get joy band from the penultimate dungeon, or joy seeds from hidden item farming, which is only available at 10th dungeon and -you need absolute mover IQ skill- (Only palkia can learn it) or a ghost, but I'm pretty sure you can't get a companion without defeating them.

So I am curious. How much total damage do we think his team did to themselves? Probably more than the enemy to be honest.
I think, had I found a way to continue the initial run, that team probably would have taken around the same amount of damage as enemies
The second run, maybe not, just because the recoil damage was less? It's an interesting thought though!

Yeah, I see where you're coming from here, it is the challenge done on "easy mode" (though still pretty tough in my opinion)
With the first run not being successful, I was trying to find the "quickest" way to beat the game, and having two fire types was going to be quicker. Completely understand though!

I'm finally getting to watch the rest of the video. It occurs to me now that I didn't test it there's a crash in the Mankey section. Because guess what. Even the debug room you can go to with an action replay forgot to count it as part of the main story.
