What's worse is the "farmers," that are "abusing subsidies," are not the farmers, but the corporations that have learned to play the system. The farmers are the ones getting screwed, while the corporations abusing the system will likely be allowed to continue to do so.
You’re exactly right. Most of my family are farmers. The old ones retired, of course. The young ones are struggling, and living off of money they borrowed or stole from their parents. One isn’t even making the land payments he’s supposed to, and his dad just writes it off.
In the sixties my buddies dad used to brag about getting money from the government for not planting anything.

One of the reasons they continuously speak of "internment camps" (aka concentration camps). I became disabled after a severe TBI in 2016. Before that I was a nurse. I was a single mom with 3 children, two with special needs. This is why I read most of project 2025. It is utterly terrifying. It's painfully clear that they are planning another holocaust, and that is NOT hyperbole. I fear tremendously for ALL of my fellow Americans, even more so for those who are most vulnerable...

My understanding of what I read in Project 2025 is that they want to reduce the number of small farms and consolidate into Big Ag. Unfortunately, most of the small farmers I know wouldn’t believe me if I told them. They tend to be Trumpers, incredibly enough.

Same hete!! I live near Scadia in washington and local small and local farmers markets are essential to a lot of families with food issues. I wonder how all this would affect them/us that use them over grocery stores. I preffer waxless and sun split apples and other fruit and veggies more than overwaxed, shaved and shaped, and "pretty" looking food any day. I just hate the seasonality of it all. Stores are only good for satisfying the need for out-of-srason produce.

Raising insurance for farmers, removing their protective supporting programs, makes the insurance companies richer, consumers poorer at the grocery store. Not rocket science and no surprises here for anyone paying attention to the republican record and agenda.

We need to abolish first past the post voting for something like ranked voting(to actually give 3rd parties a chance), but until then, whichever party consolidates more and has it's team "hold their nose" while voting majority, wins.
Third parties rarely get like, 5% of the total vote(at best). When margins for elections are CLOSE, like they've been the last few elections, that really is the difference between someone you agree with sometimes, or the group you definitely don't want to win squeaking by.

I work for an organic farmer in MA. All of our food is organically grown and we sell mostly straight to families. Insurance is already high. This would be devastating.

Idk what it is but I would be willing to trade community service hours for medical bills and other insurances..

Now I know what the CCC is and that the department of agriculture is enormous (kinda knew that).
2025 really hates organic food, any subsidies, and regulation of any kind.

The large farm subsidies are being abused, but not by small farmers. There are large farm corporations that abuse them. John Oliver did a whole show about it.

Exactly.... The largest farms, the ones that are still labeled "family farms" but are doing millions of dollars in business, have profit margins in the double digits. 10-25%, depending on the size.
They absolutely should not be receiving subsidies, especially when those subsidies are artificially lowering the cost of things like corn and beef, and making us less healthy in the long run.
there's too much damned corn in everything, and soy, garbage food, and subsidies shouldn't encourage the destruction of scarce resources like water and arable land
I also noticed some stuff in the project about the FDA and harming its ability to do food saftey and label foods. This would make buying food as a consumer more confusing and even possibly more dangerous in some cases.
Do you read the lists of recalls lately. We are already going down that road.
@@5amiann ? The FDA isn't perfect but it issues recalls when something is found to be harmful in order to protect consumers as part of doing its job. If you stopped seeing recalls or regulation to food and drugs assume corporations are getting away with things they shouldn't and your risk of being poisoned goes up.

I don't get into conspiracy theories but I have read a large portion of Project 2025. It's your craziest conspiracy theories gone live. Mass starvation is in there. If you don't like paying 4 bucks for a dozen eggs now you will HATE having to pay 40 bucks for the same dozen in 2025. That's what will happen.
The government literally controls our food supply via the SUBSIDIES. They subsidize freaking corn and soybeans to DEATH. @amaradominique Sadly yes. Most small farmers get no help from the gov, no crop insurance. We are pretty much on our own. This makes local, seasonal food more expensive than grocery store food. Chicken where I'm at from a local small farmer runs between 25 to 30 per chicken. Turkeys are 100+. Produce isn't to bad priced but it's limited and most folks don't understand that you can't get fruit yr round.

I follow a farmer in Minnesota, and between the price of seeds going up (and you have to buy new seeds every year, cause they're patented) and if he wasn't making money on youtube they'd have lost the farm that's been in his family for 5 generations

@@carolynt8864most farmers prefer to buy seed every year. GMO or not… because then they don’t have to store the seed over the winter. Patented plant genetics go back to the 1930s or 40s.
Just because some seed contracts come with clauses preventing the farmer from saving back seed (which most farmers don’t want to fuss with anyway) doesn’t mean that there are not other seed options available.
No one of forcing farmers to buy any particular brand of seed or variety from that brand.
A farmer who knowingly violates a legal contract that they have voluntarily agreed to deserves whatever legal consequences they receive as a result.

My uncles are farmers in Illinois. If you eat corn, you might be eating corn my uncles grew, and sometimes have to take a loss on. Farmers deal with weather, rainfall, insects, plant diseases, and so many other things out of their control. The purpose of insurance is to give the farmers some security if these uncontrollable forces cause crop failure. Just like car insurance, life insurance, health insurance are supposed to cover the unexpected. Would *any* business operate without insurance to cover unforeseen problems? Why go after farmers??? Oh, yeah, because they are not the 1%.
I worked for some farmers that struggled to make ends meet growing tomatoes and strawberries. They threw in the towel and hired me and started growing turf. They make a killing off a crop that benefits hardly anyone and destroys the environment. I’m glad I got out. It was a dead end job that was damaging my health.

One of my uncles has won environmental awards for the way he farms and treats the land that he can't farm on. He doesn't use pesticides or chemical fertilizers, he plants trees and won't cut any of the woods on his farm, he has a huge strip of native plants and flowers for pollinators, he has a lake that attracts migrating birds and that he is constantly replanting cattails and other bird friendly plants around, and he has a large field on which he grows plants such as millet and sunflowers to feed birds and small animals.There is absolutely no hunting of any kind on two of my unces' properties to encourage native animals to live there. They taught me that farmers should be stewards of the earth. I think more would be if it weren't such a soul killing job.

DeKalb Ag corn or downstate? Either way - we consume their corn. Most of my friends when I lived there in 80s worked de-tassle crews all summer. It's a massive community saving economy, and needs to be protected.

They aren’t wrong, these subsidies are widely abused. In my county alone, the 20 largest farms earned $40,000,000 in subsidies. In politics they love to use the image of a small local farmer struggling to get by, but a majority of these funds goes to the farmers with 5,000 sf homes and $90,000 trucks that get replaced yearly.

Yes, I hadn’t heard this aspect yet. I really do need to read it for myself. I’m just a little afraid it will trigger me and one of my disorders. Hubby thinks I maybe shouldn’t. Maybe I’ll ask my psychiatrist what she thinks. I’ve been seeing the same one almost 20 years. She knows me well. 😊 So many of my relatives are Iowa farmers (and Republicans). This concerns me greatly as someone with a laundry list of severe food allergies. Like what happened during Covid, the FDA will allow companies to change their ingredients without changing their labels and end up unaliving people like me in the process.

How much do you weigh? If youre slim then just ignore this advice. If youre on the bigger side, if this happens you need to eat little rations of your safe food, and drink lots of water. Your food will eventually run out but hopefully you can live with this advice, but lets hope evej more this gets out of the future entirely

Food production is matter of national security. History shows over and over and over and over that famines topple governments, start wars, destroy economies and kill millions of people. There are two things that the government must, without question, do. First, establish and maintain a military for national defense. Second, ensure that there is enough food to keep the citizens fed. These two things are non-negotiable.
Food prices will go up. Farmers won't eat the premium increases.( no pun intended )
The end result, whether this was intentionally planned by the Heritage Foundation or not, is that it will mean that small farmers go under by the thousand, and big farmers (or at least the MAGA friendly ones) will buy up these failed farms and become monopolies.

Exactly! My grocery bill went from 125 > 150 >200 over the last few years even though it's only been me, my husband, and the dog that entire time. This is why we started a permaculture garden in the backyard, but gardens also isn't always accessible in cities and apartments. Food access is not easy and it's definitely getting harder.

Your increases in food are due to the middlemen, the companies making processed foods you eat and the supermarkets all increasing prices. Farmers get 10% of the price you pay for a food and sometimes even less. Farmers used to get 50% of the price of the food you eat, so how do you expect them to survive now on less that 10%???

Over 90% of the meals i make are from scratxh, and 90% of what I am buying is INGREDIENTS. Flour, salt, milk, veg, fresh fruit, meat from the Butcher. During the summer, I get whatever produce I can't grow from the farmers market. Even then it's still 200$ a week to feed two people and a dog. I even have quail for meat snd eggs.
Very few of the"farmers" we have now are the local mom and pop places of the past that were actually beneficial. Most but not all are GIANT corporations that are pushing bad practices like non regenerative farming techniques, raise meat animals in terrible conditions, and produce low quality food.
