I understand the sentiment of people wanting Kowalski to have been kept around, but doing this as episode 2 (or 3 depending on your POV) really brought home that you couldn’t trust anyone when it came to Goa’uld. Even your closest friend could be a traitor and not know it. Plus the proof that they couldn’t simply surgically remove the worm, made the search harder.

it's an early episode, they were settling into what would become the facts... I've seen the show countless times over and I would be grateful/shocked if someone could remind me of it happening again
the whole become one thing is a lie. They didn't remove the whole thing from him. There is still a small part inside the brain. When they killed him that part fell out.
