This is the hilarious moment a first-time dad was left hyperventilating in shock when he and his wife discovered they were expecting twins during their first ultrasound. Sierra and Samuel Singleton, from Palm Beach, Florida, were feeling anxious heading into their first appointment, not knowing what to expect. But as the examination began, their nerves ramped up when the ultrasound technician said to the couple calmly, "Looks like there's two babies in there." With Samuel, 27, taking out his cellphone to record the shock of the moment, Sierra, 26, then let out a huge "Whaaaat?" in amazement. Then, as the scan went on, Samuel could be heard hyperventilating at the shock, with his "jaw on the floor," Sierra said. The moment took place on February 28, and Sierra later shared Samuel's clip on social media, where the clip immediately went viral with millions of views.

My wife and I had this happen. It was the happiest day of my life. A month later, it was followed by the worst though, when we sadly lost the pregnancy... 15 years on and I still ache from the loss.
Thankfully, my wife and I did go on to have two other children. One is 14 and the other is 5, and we are still happily married.

Twins are carried through the maternal side. Running in his side only means their daughters are more likely to have twins, not that he can make twins. Identical twins aren't from either side, it's just something that happens in early embryo development when cellular division goes farther than expected
Identical twins evidently are not a genetic trait. Fraternal can be (mom releasing more than one egg). Now that being said we have three sets of identical twins in our family in the past thirty years so…. Drs have been wrong before so we’ll see what the future research says.
Yeah it's curious and a rarity to happen so often in one family. If there is a genetic causality it would likely be in how the embryo divides when in the morula/blastocyst stage. Something unique may be occurring or even potentially not as strong in the embryos (maybe something with the membrane that the embryo later needs to hatch out of for implantation?) which allows more of a likelihood for them to divide and not keep to a single individual, but to split to 2 individuals.

I nearly fell of the table during my first scan. I had seen my midwife the same day and asked if I could be having twins as my symptons were so different from my first singleton pregnancy - everything felt exagerated - ie far more sickness and tiredness which my midwife said as normal with second pregnancies but my instinct proved correct. When I came back out to the waiting room my face was so shocked my mum knew instantly :-) It was the ONLY scan my husband did not make it too as it was booked as a last minute cancellation! I had boys at 28 weeks by emergency c/s. They are strapping 6 plus footers now !! Great reaction from dad with the hyperventalating and only just telling wife twins run in his family !!

I know exactly how they feel... i found out 3 days b4 my babies was born thats they was twin girls. thats was the 1st ultrasound. i adopted them. but they are mine.

Sorry that you had your babies adopted but I am sure you must have made the best choice for them and you at the time x Were they both adopted by the same family? You have the security of knowing they will ALWAYS be together. My twin boys are the best of friends :-)

I was alone when I found out, as we had other kids before and twins never crossed my mind. Had to call and tell my Husband, who laughed for the next 24 hours about it. It was either he went manic or was in shock 😂
I told my husband - he was on a business lunch at the top of The London Eye. His colleagues said he went white - one called another colleague who was waiting on ground for them - he had rushed to buy a bottle of champagne which was popped when my hubby got off the eye :-) A fabulous day that he has never forgotten.

One of the mums at my twins schools had TWO sets of twins and ONE set of triplets, plus a singleton. And they were all spotless and so well behaved that mum put me to shame ;-)

On her side, not his. But twins in his side have nothing to do with her having twins. Identical twins are a weird cellular division in early embryonic development that becomes two embryos. Fraternal twins are genetic on the mother's side bc they come from the woman releasing more than one egg. Every member of a man's family can have a fraternal twin and that won't make his wife more likely to have fraternal twins than any other woman
