Whoever thought up the denim factory for Corrie... what a genius. The line up Mike, Ivy, Vera, Elsie, Ida etc. what an array of brilliant actors and the scene of so many fantastic storylines. A joy to watch.
The factory storyline has held the show together long beyond its expiry date. The original line up was indeed brilliant casting. Mike Baldwin was an excellent man you love to hate. He was a great friend and yet could be his own worst enemy. I love that Vera and Jack evolved and feel that it was the last throw of the dice for writers of the show.

its me again, Another big thank you. I'm putting 1983 on hold , I've started from 1977 and I'm working my way back up to 1983. Please, please don't let them all disappear.
@@DavidRenwick-t1e It really is, it shouldn't be called that any more, it's an insult to it, it should be called something else entirely as it's a completely different programme
How did it take 3 years for this to classic to appear on my feed. What fabulous writing that was SO underestimated in its day. It's fair to say CS is still on the TV today. But it's full of lurid storylines that have no relation to the outstanding observational script of its era. Listening in to what people say amongst themselves today wouldn't be permitted.
All the programs and films I have access to I always come back to classic Corry my husband thinks I'm a nut job yet he always questions me on the story line
2:29:06the first appearance of “ahr Brian” who starts with a faux posh accent, which swiftly disappears 2:30:12 the last appearance of Bill Tarmey as a background extra, this episode, he’s credited as “Jack Rowe”, he’s next seen at the wedding of Brian & Gail, in 1979, as the husband of Vera, Jack Duckworth
Liz Dawn, natural comic genius. If you get a chance, look up the behind the scenes Blankety Blank featuring her and Norman Pace. She had him peeing his pants with laughter.
Yes indeed a comic genius - some years later there was a clip of Vera sitting at home alone watching and trying to understand the opera - no words spoken and none needed her facial expressions were priceless
2:30:08 - Betty Turpin says, "who's that pair over there - I've never seen them in here before" when one of the men is the future Jack Duckworth, and he's been playing darts in the Rovers for months by then. The other man is the future nemesis of Derek Wilton, bullyboy Councillor Potts (he was twice the size by the 1990s).
2:29:06 - this must be first ever appearance of Brian Tilsley, Mr. Hair-and-Teeth himself. But why is he speaking like Little Lord Fauntleroy? Did he only acquire his Lancashire accent after also acquiring Ivy as his mother (a few episodes later)?
I wish characters like Eddie Yates, Bet Gilroy, Elsie Tanner and Hilda hadn't left. I know the actors all had their reasons, but watching elderly Ken, Rita and Audrey still on the programme in 2021, it would have been so wonderful to have had those characters alongside them. Obviously several of the actors died long ago, but I wish they had all stayed in the show until they died. Peter Adamson breaking his contract and getting killed off as a result was a blow to the show. Having him and Rita married for years would have given many more great storylines. And I really feel that Granada should have held on to Julie Goodyear at all costs.
@@bsaunders5271 I staggered on for a further two decades and gave up once Mike Baldwin was gone, but Bet's leaving marked the beginning of the end for me in 1995.
I couldn’t stand Suzy Burchhill Her going off on Steve about the redundancy money and she deserved to lose her job because she was calling long distance on the company phone
Greetings from Tyne @ Wear! ..... WoW! I am very happy to have stumbled upon this Gem of a series by pure accident! I recently attempted to get into the current version of this programme, but to be totally honest, I found it very unpleasant to watch, and I tuned out! So, when I discovered this vintage version, it piqued my interest! It is great and I am slowly, but happily, working my way through the years. All of the characters, have a good and a not so good side to them of varying degrees, but the one 'resident' I cannot abide, is Hilda Ogden. Thank goodness I do not have to live near to a real life version! She is a trouble making nosy parker who loves to dish out negativity, but she is totally unable and unwilling, to accept the consequences, of her actions and she never seems to realise how nasty and dangerous, her busy bodying is. Yes, it is also true to say, that most of the other characters gossip, such as they would in the real world, but this piece of work, takes it to a whole new level!!!! Incidentally, whereas I think this character seems to leave a lot to be desired, I do however feel that the actress who plays the role of Hilda, is doing an amazing job of portraying such a crazy individual. ..... It just leaves me to thank the uploader, for giving me many a happy hour in allowing me to enjoy this wonderful vintage journey. Kind Regards. xx
Ivy before she got religion - "I quite like going to church, well, once in a while". Just a short time later she would be going to church every week, plus Catholic club and getting to know the priest. I wonder why the decision to transform her attitude towards religion when she moved into the street was taken. It was a good move, it emphasised her sanctimonious, truculent nature, and added another dimension to CN.
Ah Suzie... a shame they changed her as she was great when she first arrived. Ambitious, confident and fun. But when they brought her back in the 80s she was trying to steal Gale's man!
to be fair,Stan and hilda didn't encourage Bet to put money in the slot machine. They actually told her not to. They didn't want her to waste her money
That drove me mad, she had no right to take that money. If they choose to store that money in a fruit machine, it's their business. No different to her taking it from a tin in the cupboard.
So it is. I've just googled him. His name is Russell Dixon. According to IMDB, he played, as you say, Dave Barnes, Harry Potts and in 2012 / 2013, he returned again as a character called Henry Wilkins. Well spotted!

Hilda, Stan & Eddie greatest triple act in tv history.... if only we could rewind the clock.

Best threesome ever!
