I totally agree , i have had 8 miniature schnauzers and also 1 standard schnauzer. They know how to manipulate with those eyes. I love all of my schnauzers starting at age 4 and now I am 64 and i just can't be without my schnauzers.
Schnauzer's are actually very smart. They rank 12th in terms of intelligence among 138 qualifying breeds. They were measured upon a specific type of intelligence called "obedience and working intelligence." They were evaluated on how quickly they learned a new command and how well they retain their obedience training. Teach them something with 15 repetitions. Doing this 2x/day and it won't take long for your Schnauzer to learn new things. They are very good problem solvers. That's what made my oldest (3.5 yrs old) a master escape artist. If your Schnauzer wolf's their food down get slow feeders for them. The larger size Kong is excellent. There are other slow feeders too. I have a cool one that you fill a cylinder and they roll it on the floor and the food comes out of a hole. It's now their favorite. Another one they like is a ball that rolls around on the floor. It gives them sometthing to do and helps with the wolfing food down. If they don't pay any attention to them don't think they are going to starve and put their bowl back down. When they get hungry enough they will get curious and figure it out. That is what they do best is figure the problem out. I don't get the flat bowls that have smaller compartments in it. I feel they can still eat pretty fast with them. The video is spot on.
Aww thank you for sharing that info! It’s so true! I love to teach scotty a new trick. He’s currently learning “speak”. And you are so right about them inhaling their food!🤣🤣🤣😜
Aways best to know what you’re getting into with an animal. Many are easy, many are tough, most require more than many think. If you’re up to the task then the toughest of breeds can be amazing pets. If you aren’t, then that’s ok. Acknowledge it and find one that you can. Maybe you’ll work your way up to them, or maybe you’ll find a breed you never knew you could love so much! As long as you can provide the needs for the pup then you’ll have a happy and healthy companion!
I did a bit of research before getting one. Personally I would preferred larger dogs but my schnauzer is one of the best breeds for my living arrangement. My dog is indeed intelligent, sensitive so training is easy. I walk my dog twice a day, before and after work. Training at every meal time. She has never touched stuffs that not belong to her. She does not have separation anxiety as long as you give her opportunities to do her bussiness outside she won't be an issue with house training either. Food allergies and grooming will cost you so be prepared. Although I still referred the boxer like looks I am glad I have her. She is way easier to care for than the poodle mix btw.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I also like bigger dogs too. Mini Schnauzers are great for someone whose situation calls for a smaller dog. Your girl Schnauzer sounds so well behaved😊💖
I’m on my fourth schnauzer. I think my current baby is high energy. The other 3 were pretty regular. Definitely stubborn but nothing that cuteness doesn’t overcome any issues ❤️❤️❤️
Yeah some just have different temperaments. Scotty is also very energetic and high strung🤣 But also the smartest dog I’ve ever had. And you’re right about the cuteness factor!😜♥️
My mini schnauzer is a sweetheart I love her so much! When we first brought her home she gave us a really good time and was very kept to herself but was still nudging different toys we gave her. She was really an angel and worked perfect into my life! I loved to bike and attaching a leash to it gave us a goth pure joy. She was like my personal shadow and yes she is definitely my alarm clock! A interactive one to! I trained her a couple tricks as soon as we got her! Love her so much get one they are awesome,
My mini Schnauzer was crazy when she was at 4 month old. Luckily, I found Petco puppy play date at that time. It helped socialize her tremendously at 6 -8 old months, which also taught me a lot about dog training and dog interaction by just watching the socialization session every weekend. I had to take her to her dog park every day for 2-3 hours to wear her out. She had her best friends at the dog park and it was so much fun to see her smile and have fun nicely with other dogs. She stopped playing too rough and become the best dog (except for barking for all kind of reasons) because of all those puppy play dates and the dog park play. She just started to calm down with her energy after she is 4 years old.
I gir a mini schauzer now 1 1/2 year Archie is a joy very affectionate, playful, smart ,learns quick, likes his 3 walks a day. I brush him everyday brush his teeth every 2nd day. He sleeps good all night 2 naps during day as I have him running alot when we go out daily. His only flaw is picky eater I make him boiled chicken and 1 egg scrambled he loves that bur eats when he in mood .drinks good. But I love him and take care of him like my 2nd child lol
My miniature Schnauzer was only energetic during her first 4 years. She was never destructive and rarely barks. I have to agree she becomes "deaf" if she wants to do something and you call her.... But her hearing improves to excellent if you open the cupboard door where her food or snacks are in. She absolutely loves young children. Only health issues she's had in 11 years is the removal of some blocked sweat glands. I had it removed (only for cosmetic reasons). Her anal glands have to be seen to every 6 months. I cannot imagine my life without her.
We have two miniature schnauzers; one four years old, and one four months old. The older dog runs and plays hard for an hour twice a day on our fenced half acre. The pup runs hard…off and on all day. She sleeps, she eats, and she runs. We have to give our older schnauzer isolated time away from our pup. They truly enjoy each other, but the younger dog would hang with the older one all day. The older one needs time to chill. Schnauzers train easily with minimal but consistent food reinforcement and exact and repetitive daily verbal commands. It only takes a few minutes in the morning each day to work with your pup. We have had many breeds, but the schnauzer is our favorite. They are smart, cute, and most happy to please if commands are simple and consistent. Pro tip: run a comb through their coat daily and you will be doing the LEAST amount of work necessary to maintain their coat. Working on mattes will take you three times as long. These are beautiful animals, but they do require a little extra care to achieve the stunning look of this breed.
Aww thanks for sharing your story. That’s so awesome to hear about the friendship between your two schnauzers ♥️♥️ Scotty would LOVE sibling. But I’m not ready for double trouble. And you are right, they are HIGHLY INTELLIGENT. Scotty is the smartest dog I’ve ever had, and I’ve had German Shepherds and Labradors! And thanks for the grooming tip!😊♥️👍🏻

The Google algorithms decided that I needed to view this video ☺️🤣 And it was absolutely brilliant, so true in everything that you said 🤭 But I do have to ask one thing though….. What’s Scotty like when it comes to dinner time? Does he eat like he’s never seen food before? 🤣 😂 Keep up the good work, have a blessed weekend 🙏🏾
Aww I’m so glad you found the video helpful! Good question, during dinner time, Scotty’s memory is wiped of all previous meals he’s ever eaten and he becomes a starving puppy who’s never eaten a day in his life 😜 and he inhales it in about 3 seconds, unless I use a slow feeder.
@@ScottytheSchnauzer I love the ‘Inhale’ analogy 😂 I guess it’s just the breed eh. But in saying that though he does have boiled warm water with every main meal so it’s not as harsh on his throat 😊 You, the family & Scotty have a blessed week 🙏🏾
We have two boys Rocky and Charlie. They are also not really used to kids and will nip them if they are moving to quickly. Other than that they are awsome dogs. Dont know how to explain it. They are just different.
Yes, Scotty also goes after kids feet if they’re moving to fast! So he’s not the only one 🤣 Maybe it’s the terrier in them? But still he’s a great family dog!♥️ I’m sure yours are too!♥️🐾😊
Considering becoming the mother to a miniature Schnauzer but live in an apartment so will need to train him not to bark! The breeder said they aren’t to vocal, anyone else had similar experiences?
Mini Schnauzers are one of the most vocal and bark prone breeds. But it’s not a terrifying bark. It’s their terrier nature. But I’m glad that you’re thinking about it early on, that’s the best! 😊♥️🐾
Love your video! I was just curious… how is Scotty with houseplants? I see that you have a nice houseplant that goes down to Scotty’s level. Does he ever try to eat them? We are thinking of adopting a Schnauzer and we’ve been researching how to provide the best possible home for a young Schnauzer. Thank you very much!
That is a good question! Scotty has literally never tried to eat or destroy houseplants! He’s just not interested so thankfully it’s not an issue. I don’t think he even knows they’re there🤣🌱 Now fresh flowers 💐 he is interested in but again, it’s not an issue!
@@ScottytheSchnauzer Thank you very much for your response. We’re very excited about adopting a Schnauzer puppy. We submitted our application for adoption and they’re reviewing it and will stop by to see our neighborhood, home, and what prep work we have done. They are very thorough (thankfully and rightly so) with potential homes for their dogs. Thanks again. Take care!
Can I ask you a question about mini schnauzers? *I'm a very active person and plan on bringing my future pup hiking, jogging, motorcycle'n, walks, swims etc etc daily... my concern is that I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment. There's a super cool cat that is socialized to friends/family dogs to also keep company while away. Would a small apartment be a bad idea (even though I'll exceed 1 hour of hard activities every day?) Edit: cat has a crawl space shangrala all to herself and lots of vertical access points throughout apt. Cat/dog can easily have personal space whenever they decide.
Hi! Thanks for asking. Well, I don’t know how small your apartment is, but in general Mini Schnauzers are pretty active and are likely to go stir crazy in a very small apartment. So I guess it would depend on how small the space is. It’s awesome that you’re active and that you would include your dog in those activities! Physical activity is a MUST for Mini Schnauzers because if they don’t get it, they will end up destroying furniture, carpets, shoes (they are obsessed with their owner’s shoes!). So that’s a concern that I would have in a very small apartment. Because even an hour of physical activity might not be enough to keep the Schnauzer sane in a small space. They aren’t lap dogs or lazy dogs. They like to guard their surrounds and monitor things. If it’s a studio, I don’t think it would be a good match for a schnauzer. But again, I don’t know the actual size, I’m just going off of Scotty and my other Schnauzer before him, and I know they got depressed in small spaces. I’m sorry if it’s not the answer you’re looking for, but feel free to clarify or ask any more questions😊
@@ScottytheSchnauzer Thank you. I appreciated your insights and taking the time to respond, cheers. What do you think of this idea? I've visited multiple breeders/stores etc, for minis, with the original intent of getting an alpha pup or high tempo, open to everything sorta dog. What if instead I aim to slowly grow the confidence with a Mini Schnauzer *runt puppy? Idk, sorta dial down the schnauzer-ness +/- Does this make sense? I initially rejected the idea of runts, but I've reconsidered. (happy 4th)
@@geekvinosif there’s one thing I’ve learned with Schnauzer’s, you can NEVER predict what their personality will be like 😂 But it would be interesting to see how getting a runt goes. They are usually timid. Scotty was timid when I first got him and now thinks of himself as a king 👑
@@ScottytheSchnauzer Hey there, I actually ended up getting a 12 week-old mini schnauzer pup in the beginning of July. And it's been tremendous, haha. I avoided the runt idea and instead chose a curious, confident, and high energy puppy. Long story short... already logged a 1,000 mile motorcycle trip with him (absolutely loves it). Small apartment approved no worries. And it took awhile for my cat to warm up to him, but now they're buds and it's like my apt is an episode of Tom n Jerry. Hard to imagine life without the little rascal. Mini Schnauzers rock!

Yes because I don't want my crib smelly when I have visitors. Don't she will be shere home with cats. Let a dog lick your face is 🤮. I don't want my dogs jumping on visitors.
I would like to know what food you feed Scotty. I’m always switching my girls food, trying to find the right one because of known stomach issues the mini has.
I’ve fed Scotty: Organix certified organic dog food (he did great with that), but there is availability issues on Amazon. Might find at local health store. Also fed Ziwi lamb (canned or dehydrated). Carna4 is also a good food! It’s from Canada. All the good foods are expensive 💸💸💸💸. Look at rachelfusaro.com for more in depth recommendations. I know for sensitive stomachs there is a brand called Medicus that is also a whole food dog company and makes a recipe for dogs with stomach problems. 😊
I’m in BC Canada, those brands don’t sound familiar to me, but I will check them out. So many companies saying how wonderful and healthy their food is and you find out, down the road it’s not true.
@@marydaunaisyeah I only know of these brands from doing hours of painstaking research. Scotty doesn’t have any health problems right now thankfully. I have a senior dog who is on Royal Canin gastrointestinal formula. Vets will say that’s the best brand. I’m more of a whole food, holistic person though. But I’ve always heard great things about Carna4, which is made in Canada.
My mini schnauzer‘s name is Emily. She was attacked by my wife’s big, dumb dog. she was so confused she tried to bite me, and I felt her energy as low as it could be, practically passing out as she was defending herself. i’m going to put her in a new environment With my mom. Can they learn not to attack new humans let alone dumb dogs.

Edit: cat has a crawl space shangrala all to herself and lots of vertical access points throughout apt.
@@geekvinos this was really helpful
Goofy. That sums it up.
😜
Ours is goofy too!
I might get miniature schnauzer and Laberdor retriever mix.
Wow! I’ve never heard of that combination!😊😜
@@ScottytheSchnauzer or purebred Miniature Schnauzer named Donadeya she live out the back screen in porch with her things like food, h2o, toys. So don't have come in the part of the house where I cook at. Because wouldn't want roaming around the crib. She probably live on my farm along with cats, Llamas and geese. Make sure she on leash all while in public. Because most dog owners don't clean after their dogs.she would live out her best life 😊.
@@justinmccain1896❤😊
But I would recommend checking this out as a guide: www.rachelfusaro.com/dogfood/
Ours loved every one. She hated baths. We were lucky she was very submisive.
Aww how sweet! And yes, baths are evil 😡
Hi friend
They talk back
OMG is that an A.I generated voice 🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤔 it’s my real voice.
My mini schnauzer‘s name is Emily. She was attacked by my wife’s big, dumb dog. she was so confused she tried to bite me, and I felt her energy as low as it could be, practically passing out as she was defending herself. i’m going to put her in a new environment
With my mom. Can they learn not to attack new humans let alone dumb dogs.
I hope the new environment will be a better situation for Emily 🩷😊
Is Scotty a salt and pepper?
He’s considered a “Black and Silver”, but it feels likes it’s the same thing 😉
My miniature schnauzer only did hand shakes if he got a treat . If he didn’t see the treat there was no hand shakes.
Typical stubborn schnauzer 😂🤪
NEVER EVER BE MEAN TO ANIMAĹS😢
Of course! 💖 Gotta be patient with them.
You shouldn't dress dogs!!
Sorry, but you’re going to see a lot of that on my channel. 😉
