- "A Gentleman’s Wager" tells the story of a wager between two men which results in a truly rare experience as part of their quest for personal progress. Filmed in the British Virgin Islands and London, the film sees Jude Law in the role of a man who, despite having it all, proposes a wager as an excuse to challenge himself to create an original performance in order to win a money-can’t-buy prize.

I just watched a 6 minute ad for booze. Well played.
actually less of an ad than most product placements nowadays.
all ads should be like this.... actually enjoyable to watch..
Erik Simca : Yes, ads that introduces and instill living life Values. Ads is a vehicle for businesses and products, nothing wrong with that as business, information and economy spins the world. Product ads with the call for humanistic values are priceless. One may not find himself relating to the product but everyone definitely relates to Values. Hope more good ads like this are produced everywhere. Values of the old and young - respectful of each other and good friendship.
Was the label using the advertisement to sell product, or was the ad using the label to tell a story?
Hahahahahahahahahahaha damn this one 🤣
7 year's!! I still watch this, it was an amazing display of screenplay, acting, dialogue , victory and taste , the perfect mix
I watch this every week. Its a gem.
And the music guys, don't forget the music...
Where is the damn story JW?
How about photography and cinematography?
Me tooooo. Che Classe!!!!
This is what advertising should be like. No flashy, loud, shallow videos trying to grab your attention
I hear you but imagine cramming this into 30 seconds.
probably the best way to it for a product like this.
So what do you think about spike jonze kenzo commercial?
Robbe Nagel Depends on the market. If you are marketing to seniors and men aged 50+, then yes.
That's advertising for Booze.
Millions of people died because of alcoholism.
That's not what advertising should be like
I can’t believe I spent 6 minutes watching an ad with 2 rich guys drink corporate flagship whiskey, line dancing, and making wagers over priceless objects. it was pretty cool though
The whiskey was easy enough to ignore, especially since I don't drink the stuff. I appreciated that this... mini movie, let's call it... didn't just try to sell me on the idea that a specific brand of alchohol would make me cool, double the length of my dick and attract quasi-naked women from way beyond the horizon. Almost makes me want to try whiskey, but not quite.
I think this is what is called eye-candy or guilty pleasure. Remember, these are actors, repeating lines not written by them and has nothing to do with reality. But damn, it was great to dream if for only a little while.
Haven't you seen Trading Places with Eddie Murphy ua-cam.com/video/wjkdynBFHuQ/v-deo.html ?
I'd have to watch it again to confirm (I won't) but pretty sure no whiskey was consumed.
Whisky...
So that's what rich men do when they're bored..
Wealthy* rich men still work ;)
@@RyanZNO yeah only when they want to.
no, not really
@@vishalbanshal6857 if they didn't keep working they would no longer be rich
@@vishalbanshal6857 The first generation rich men usually work insanely hard. The next generations just get lazier and lazier.
Although this was years ago, this is probably the coolest commercial I've ever seen. Elegant, but playful.
I agree completely. donrjr
100% agreeable. A story well told
We agree which is why we keep playing. We have other videos that are great too!
but have you seen jean claude van damme volvo commercial?
@@pedrokim107 yes, and the Dolph Lundgren Volvo commercial to, which in my opinion is better :-)
Plot twist: They are actually co-owners of the boat already. This is just a game they play.
Might as well be if it gets passed back and forth *that* often.
That's not a plot twist... That's literally the plot...
Might just be married.
This is clear evidence of the profit margin in selling whiskey.
I concur.
The question is: now that we know this…
what do we do about it?
It's the profit margin selling anything that people love to consume, look at any celebrity fashion line.
@@jonathantuck5029 make, whiskey?
@GamesTricker Why not both :D
Peter Yianilos > of the profit margin in selling whiskey.
Or at least Johnny Walker. It takes almost a decade before the first sellable bottles after the whiskey goes into barrels, so unless you have been at this since Prohibition or earlier, the capital required in astounding.
Does anyone else think Jude would make an excellent James Bond ?
Or an excellent Bond villain?
@@ralfrettig6963 agree. he's more fitting for a villain now that you've mentioned it
More the classic Bond.
Maybe, if Bond was jew and gay
@@Authent12 you're almost making it too easy to sell it to todays hollywood executives, but I'm afraid Mr. Law is too white to be a good fit for the role nowdays
They use the boat as a prize to improve each other's life by having them perform tasks they otherwise wouldn't have been able to pull off. Brilliant.
If more ads were like this, I'd actually enjoy watching them.
Keep watching our channel and we will bring you more 😎
I always appreciate when a company has the wherewithal to fund something so original and whimsical, that was neat
Have you seen the Jean-Claude Van Damme doing the splits on the Volvo truck commercial? Only about thirty seconds, but what a thirty seconds!
I just want to know how this got sold to the client. "Okay we're gonna take Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini to the BVA... no stay with me the bottle will be in 30% of the shots!" Masterful.
the truely masterful thing is they don't show you the bottles label, not until the very end. one always thinks a it's product placement, but then the logical part of the brain say's nah it can't be if it were product placement one would see the lable. They played us with our own expectations on advertising and actually made us want to know what is in the bottle in the end. This is the truely masterful thing in my opinion
"I once sailed a vessel older and rarer than any other. It was priceless -- nothing compared. I had acquired it in payment of a life debt owed my father's father, and when he passed, the vessel passed to me. This is our story; this is our fate. How my once estranged son found himself upon that vessel and reconciled to the family. How the heirloom passed yet again, for my last moments were upon me. This is the song, the dance, the story -- embellished with naught but the nautical flair of the very waters upon which we sailed. This is the story, of how I finished the course. This is the dance, in which the finest blend of whiskey whisked me along for the trip of a life. This, this -- is an ad for a drink.
I still like the story of the legendary SAO rock
This is beautifully written, quaint yet elegant. A true masterpiece in its self.
To deliver this transfixing masterpiece in ten short sentences is beyond brilliant.
Hahaha Hahaha
The best friendship ever. Two guys a boat and a bottle. Now theres a story for you.
Best ad ever
They're just gonna keep trading this boat back and forth, aren't they?
Yep 😆
Yeah
why not.
That's the point
Its not about the boat
Drunken people make the most bizarre logic.
That's so TRUE LOL
I never knew a drunk to have logic. That includes me😏
@@johnathanwheesk8791 right. Absence of logic is more fitting.
@@MarksREmarks spot on!
Not drunk. Just rich.
Good whisky is
When 6 minutes feels like 2 hours of gold!
This isn’t Whiskey rather Whisky.
Yes! It seemed longer, but it was only 6 minutes? It seemed as good as a 2 hours movie to me? Why.
There is an elegance to this that I wish more ads would use!
1:15 Boat first had Italian flag and afterwards it was changed to British. 5:23 They actually honored the wager.
* UK flag
This was so well done... LOL, a commercial that truly sucked me into the storyline!
+ it oozes oldschool charm and elegance; the clothes, the boat even the interiors
ua-cam.com/video/E7Rqom9p5no/v-deo.html
He’s not trying hard at all. This is the epitome of cool.
Broke, bald, and bored
No its not. Hes trying too hard to be cool. Thats what spoils the dance routine. Watch the second ad, with the car. They are way better on that one.
Yash Majithia well he's been making money off his looks and British accent for 40 years. He doesn't need to try :p He knows all the woman want him and all the men want to be with the woman that want him.
everyone know he has a micro penis, haven't you heard? what's so cool of a man with a small dick?
I was rehearsing a show for Wilton's Music Hall in 2014, when this was shot, and we had to decamp to another rehearsal space for the week. I guess the ir rental fee more or less underwrote our entire budget! Greeting to the amazing (truly amazing) Frances Mayhew, the then artististic director, and saviour of this truly (truly) astonishing venue.
One of the most original commercials I have seen in ages. BRAVO!
That shot of Jude Law at 5:39, slightly quizzical brow, with one eye fully revealed - but barely - over the top of the sunglasses, and the other half-hidden by them, and in just a little less light, is perfection. It speaks to the brilliance of Law, the director and the DOP, lighting and probably the editor and the colourist.
You know he's just outside right?
@@louismeunier6228 Interesting.
Just highbrow stuff I guess...
@@louismeunier6228 😂😂😂
jude law is perfect. he amazes me every time.
I wish they would keep making these forever
Well, at least give us one more in which the story Giancarlo was beginning to tell gets played out.

I keep coming back to see this over and over and over and over again. Love it!! :-)

I remember this ad as a young lad ! Brings back some nostalgic memories I love this story regardless of ad or not its a interesting tale of two friends and a ship ! Gold !
Ahhhhh, such character and personality, blending and fitting in well that makes a man, a gentleman. This is not an ad, this is man science. 👍
This is how every Advertisement should be done, congratulations
This is one of the greatest ads I have even seen.
1. This should be a movie
2. If all ads were like this, I wouldn't complain.
I will never tire of watching this advertisement.
This vid has swagger all over it.
Incredible, the story, the narrative, and these two awesome actors: you nailed it.
I want to see the next episode!
This is a wonderful ad. How relaxing and engaging.
I don't know why I'm watching Jude Law do the Madison at 10pm on a Friday night. But here I am.
This makes sense if you understand that Jude Law is absolutely plastered the entire time.
lmao!!!
Oh man... it makes every scene so much more believable.
i hope you do know you're making a fool of yourelf in your desperate try to offend one of the most charismatic actors in the history of this art form.

I love these stories I wish they still made them! great commercials!!!!!!
The best 6 minute commercial I've seen so far, it's brilliant.
Best advert I’ve seen in a very long time ... will never forget it it’s absolutely brilliant!
This is the most brilliant ad I have ever seen🔥🔥🔥🔥 Genius
Beautiful cinematography, storytelling, and everything!
Gotta love the pairing of Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini. Great chemistry. They could have used Daniel Craig instead of Jude if it had been a Heineken film...
This never gets old.....
This so cool, their should more like this, crazy idea, music, dance, and people who look like they having fun. wildly. this is life all about. thanks.
It's all in the telling of the tale, and this one is excellent.
Oh how I wish there was a sequel. Such class!
that is by far the best commercial I've seen in a long, long time!!
How cool is this advert and how come I'm only just seeing it???? Loved every second and about to click into Episode II
Love this series! Keep them coming!
The guy who shot this is a genius. Beautiful.
Swing music, Jude & Giancarlo, a long ad that you can’t turn away from.....I love it! If I buy this whiskey will my life be this fabulous?
Watson and Mathais. Crossover at its best.
I just watched a six and a half minute commercial and I'm wishing it was 13 so I could see what his story was. And it STILL beats the hell out of all the damned ads youtube keeps crowbarring into every damned video.
Hear, hear.
I just love this!
So much fun and so well done! Thank you!!
Have just watched this 5.5 years old promo-video and loved it! Both combination of true English and stylish Italian awesome. Jude Law won this first of all by his super-attitude!
classiness overloaded !
damn cool moves,
damn cool acting,
damn cool blue sea,
damn cool Johnnie Walker
I will buy a bottle just for the fact that they made this short movie-ad-thing.
I have never, ever, under any circumstance been swayed by a commercial for booze, before this one.
Can we see part 2 please? This was so good!
I love this commercial. I really wish they had done the story follow up.
One of the most enjoyable ad I have ever seen! Well done Jude Law😎
I've never wanted to hear a story like i wanna hear this one..
that was epic. Thank you for creating that. Maybe in 5-10 years I will have saved up enough for a bottle....and a boat
u gotta love the UA-cam algorithm
No clue why a 6 minute whisky advert was in my recommended but I still watched all of it
I've watched this ten times. Each time I wish I was in the same.boat. and situation. To be a gentleman. What a life.
A life well lived,

"Keep walking".
I thought it was kind of lackluster until the end, when I realized these two do this over and over again with each other.
Why
this was beautiful. The message is clear. Personal progress. I like that.
I can't count the number of times I've watched this film. Excellent campaign.
Jude is most most handsome man on earth period! That smile is magical ☺️

This really put a smile on my lips and was a good start of the day. :)
The world really passed on a great occasion to make jude law bond, now he's too old.
But for old bond I want pierce brosnan back lol
Nah, I reckon he could still do it, if both Tom cruise and keanu reeves can be convincing action heroes with both being nearly 60, I reckon Jude could manage it. He probably wouldn't be able to do it for 14 years like Daniel Craig, but he could probably make 3 films at least.
I recon Tom Hardy would make a great Bond, no idea if they have someone in there sights now Daniel is finished
He's younger than craig tho
@@demi-godcrisis849 Compare him and age to when craig started. The next bond will have to remain bond for the next decade. It's a brand, a contract, a long term partnership.
