I LOVE this - I've been heavily involved in Mead Stampede '21, '22, and '23 - and it just keeps getting better and better. Rob and Kelli ran the show PERFECTLY. No one was rushed, and we all put as much heart as we could into our score sheets. Also The quality of the submissions are getting better and better! Thank you to EVERYONE!!

Mead Stampede is the best feedback I have gotten compared to other comps in the past. It is obvious that the judges work to the style being submitted, ignore their preferences, and focus on helping you get better through positive and encouraging feedback! Well Done!!! ♥

Our judges are the best! And I think having judges from all around the country makes for some really diverse feedback because everybody’s palates are so different.

Awesome behind the scenes view! A big mead only comp with the beginner friendly/community vibes elevates this. So many discussions happen on the discord about perceptions of those meads too. Way more feedback than the already great feedback on the sheets. Other comps can’t say that! Cheers to a successful Mead Stampede 2023!!!

Hello, I would like to know if the registrations for the MeadStampede are reserved only for residents of the United States?

  • @eddavanleemputten9232

Thank you so much for providing more insight in mead competitions in general, and Mead Stampede in particular!
I wish I had access to competition to get feedback on my meads. Unfortunately I can’t ship my meads to the US and there aren’t any competitions in my area. As is, I ‘submit’ my meads to a group of professional wine sommeliers and restaurateurs. At first I didn’t even tell them they were meads. I just served them ‘a drink’. When they started asking me where I’d bought those drinks because they wanted to buy them either for their restaurant or for their own enjoyment I knew I was on to a good product. Not necessarily a mead, most of them had never had a glass of mead.
If I ever figure out how to send my meads to Mead Stampede, I will. They might bomb massively. They might do well. I don’t care. I’d love the feedback!

Feedback is so important! Glad you found a fun way to get feedback locally. Now you’ve got me wanting to try your meads!

@@DointheMost - If I ever figure out a legal way to get some to Mead Stampede, you just might! I often wonder how the verdict of non-mead-conoisseurs compares to that of people who know what really good lead is. My ‘panel of judges’ knows wines and Belgian beers. That’s their wheelhouse.
Some of my colleagues have gotten to taste a few of my meads. At the end of this months, a colleague is moving to our Italian location and holding a farewell party. Everyone is contributing something. Mine will be a selection of meads. I don’t have enough of any single mead in stock to give all 26 attending a full glass of one single mead, but it’ll be interesting to share some and to glean their reactions. It’ll run the full gamut from traditional to melomel through metheglin, from dry to semi-sweet and even a sparkling one. I wasn’t going to until one colleague who’s already tasted some, suggested. If you know enough of Belgians and a party, you get an idea of how that went. I’m expecting mostly polite reactions but I’ll be keeping a close eye on who pours out a second glass from a bottle and on how often that happens. 😇

straight up mead tastes like shit, but put some fruit in it, mix with some wood and up the abv to around 25% then yeah.. fuck yeah, fortified melomel mead (bourbon style) is where its at!
