    Man, y’all got me all kinds of anxious cuz pyment is one of the categories in entering in. Fingers crossed y’all like it

      In the past pyment has been a mixed bag, but usually we have a handful of really excellent entries in that category!

    This was a good walk through to share with people interested in entering. I love how you pulled a mead from last year’s competition to do this judging too. I appreciate the emphasis on trying to be as unbiased as possible and looking at the beverage as a whole. I also love how the comp is growing in numbers and quality alongside the community also upping their game. It speaks to the mission of the competition. Beginner friendly, feedback focused, and continual community involvement. I loved how after the competition there were many weeks of sharing scoresheets and discussion about meads on discord. No competition has that level of interaction. Cheers!!

      Thank you for this - it’s very reaffirming. We strive to be as community-oriented as possible. This happens because of *all* of us and I’m thrilled to play a part in its success. 👊

    This definitely gave me a bit more detailed insight. I got rid of the first time jitters last year's Stampede, so this year will hopefully be a lot better for the experience! I hope my entries this year stack up.

    I really enjoyed this video! It provides information most of us wonder about and have very little insight in. As far as I know there are no competitions I could enter from where I live in Belgium. If I were living in the States, I’d certainly enter Mead Stampede.
    It was fun to see how similar the judging process is to some food competitions I’ve entered and judged. Thank you!
    I believe competitions like Mead Stampede are instrumental in bringing the community together. Please keep organising yours!

      @@DointheMost - Oh wow! I’m just worried US Customs might not let them through. Importing alcohol is subject to very strict regulations. If I ever were able to find a legal way I’d do it in a heartbeat.

      @@eddavanleemputten9232 We had an international entry come in last year. Not sure what they did to get it here though.

      @@DointheMost - I’d be highly interested in knowing what that contestant did to get his/her mead to you.
      If/when I travel to the States again I’m seriously considering popping a bottle in my luggage and mailing it to you upon arrival. I’d have to find out what contestants from other states within the US did in order to get theirs to you but getting your opinion on one of mine would be wonderful. Even outside of a competition.

    This is so helpful, thanks! Ive never entered a comp before (only started brewing at the end of last year).
    Ill try and figure out the deal shipping from Aus and get some entries in for next year 😊

    I have a few recipes that I've been sticking with for mead, I'd have to figure out water PH levels before I'd try any competitions

    Love the video. Tho, I am Scared to send in the one I made for the contest, and honestly, not sure I will be able to do it this year, which considering my entry is on the higher ABV side, I think another year of age would be good for it.

    Isn’t scoring each category and summing the score a more objective way to score vs intuitive a priori score? I’m just thinking…

  • @conradwheeler68
    @conradwheeler68 Рік тому +2

    I think I can remember that one... I do believe you are right about all the subpar meads prior. and really pyments are a tough category anyway trying to hit a wine-like/grape standard and still have the honey character present
    I have a light dry rose' aging now and it isn't where I'd like it to be

    • @DointheMost
      @DointheMost  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I’m remembering that slump before we had two or three really great ones in a row. Definitely a tough category to properly balance.

    I like to know the declared information and judge based on that. If it's declared, and it doesn't present that way, then it's flawed. IMHO

    • @DointheMost
      @DointheMost  Рік тому +2

      We usually talk about that in the overall/feedback categories at the bottom. It definitely factors into my opinion, but I’m trying to judge based on overall experience, and never be too nitpicky about ingredients, unless they’re supposed to be the star of the show. Different strokes!

    • @kb2vca
      @kb2vca 24 дні тому

      Gotta say that many competitions expect that many of those competing are experienced competitors and when they "declare" ingredients, they have opened themselves up to be judged in light of the specific ingredients they have listed. I imagine that many of those entering Mead Stampede may be entering their first mead competition and unless the rules stipulate that you will be judged by the ingredients you "declare," it may make good sense for the judges to be less focused on how well the mead maker has caught every ingredient they cite and more on the overall impression their entry makes. In other words, not so much "horses for courses" as "courses for horses", if you know what I mean.
