Say Anything... is a 1989 American teen romantic comedy drama film written and directed by Cameron Crowe (in his feature directorial debut). The film follows the romance between Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack), an average student, and Diane Court (Ione Skye), the class valedictorian, immediately after their graduation from high school
You have no idea how wonderful and important for those of us who love and grew up watching movies from the 80s what you do showing the places. I hope God gives me the opportunity to go to California one day. Greetings from Uruguay 🇺🇾
your best opportunity is right now my friend, just walk right in
It’s a 20 minute video that I know it could take you 2 to 3 weeks to complete it going from place to place filming everything in your free time. Thanks for doing so!
How ironic that I lived a few blocks from that park and had a framed Say Anything Boombox Scene poster on my wall and I never knew that’s where it was filmed. I took my RC cars there, I jogged there…never had a clue. I’m definitely going to look at that park totally different the next time I drive by it. Great video, thank you
True, but imagine how devastating it was for us kids in High School who lived in Seattle, when in 1989 we wasted two tanks of gas driving around town, trying to fnd the place?
This channel is my therapy.
Awesome ,Awesome,Awesome😎 you truly are the keeper of the 80s .totally Rad video keep up the top shelf work. Be safe out there .😁
I gave her my heart. She gave me a pen.
Thumbs up before the first 20 seconds of the video played!! One of my all time favorite movies from the 80s. The one liners were staples in conversations with my friends after we watched it. "You must chill!" I first saw the movie during my first deployment in the Navy. The Air Department Leading Chief Petty Officer let a bunch of us Airmen Recruits into the Air Department Office to watch it on the TV there. I don't remember why, but it was very unusual for something like that to happen. Over the years I had this movie on VHS, DVD, BluRay and iTunes. Thanks for the tour!! So ICONIC!!!
Dude, I lived just a little South of Lankershim/Magnolia in the North Hollywood Arts District area for 11 years. The 7-11 store and park where Lloyd holds up the boombox is maybe a 10 minute walk from where my place was. I jogged that trail that loops around that park 3 times a week for years and would then grab a gatorade across the street at that 7-11. This is blowing my mind right now! How did I not know? Great video Kurt!
This is my favorite UA-cam channel.
Great research! I loved this movie and happy to see you do this film justice. 👍👍👍👍
I think you nailed the park location. Great job as always.
Your videos consistently blow my mind! How in the fires of hell do you find these locations?! Bravo!! Thank you!!
Awesome and congrats on three years of your channel
Another awesome nostalgic trip down memory lane.........love your work mate. Nik from New Zealand
Dude!!!!! The details are incredible. And I hate to say I've never even seen the while movie. Great job
Man, you are doing all my favorite movies. Thanks!
Classic! Will watch right away. TGIF !
This is the very first movie I was able to drive myself to go see at the theatre. It came out right about the time I turned 16.
What a great movie.. thanks for doing the locations. Classic.
One of my favorite movies of all-time 👍
Thanks soo much once again. Always a pleasure watching these & I'm always amazed you find all these locations. Great Job!
One of the best youtube channels very cool 😎
One of the cutest things I find about the Cusacks is that they are in a LOT of movies together. I think the ones where she is more featured there is less of John, but Joan always seems to be in the ones where he is more featured.
So sick! Great job. Just unreal the time you put in and details you show.
My friend Paul in high school bought the 1977 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu from the studio auction. I remember driving around it in. It did NOT need a match book under the cassette deck for it to work. The cassette deck worked fine.
As always awesome content thanks for your time to do this video big fan of your channel
Keep up the good work love your videos Kurt
Iconic! You make such great videos. How do you manage to find out all of these locations?
It's crazy. Didn't actually see this movie until about 5yrs ago. And this was my generation born in 1969. The scene with the boombox turned me on to the song by Peter Gabriel and it's one of my favorite songs of all time.
Fantastic video! My girlfriend and I were extras on several of the locations including Diane‘s graduation, and the house in Altadena. This was around March of ‘88. At the party scene on the front lawn when they’re collecting keys, my girlfriend and I are the couple making out as the two young graduates are fighting. It was a fun shoot, and Cameron Crowe couldn’t have been nicer to all of us.
Hey Tony, I also was in the Graduation Scene and the party Scene. I was the kid in the pink shirt when Loyd and Diane walked into the party. I think I remember you two. It was such a fun movie to work in! Thanks so much Kurt for putting this video together. Total Flash Back! I had a scene talking with Diane at the party that didn't make the final cut. I would love to see it if you have the deleted scenes or know where to see them. Thanks.
Tony you are so right. Cameron Crowe and Cusack and Ione and everyone was so nice to work with! It was a really fun shoot!
@@lancedutcher5928 Lance, that is so awesome! I’m so glad we got a chance to all work together. Really a fun shoot.
That is so awesome! This is one of my favorite movies. Excuse me for prying but are there any other stories about the filming that you can share? Thanks and have a good day.
Another great video. Thanks for all your hard work Kurt. Look forward to the next video.
Great job as always!
Kurt, your videos are the absolute best. Man, you have enhanced our lives by reliving the 80s and all of these movies and times of old. Keep being great man!
No doubt the boom box over the head is one of the most recognizable 80s scenes, even for people who never saw the movie.
Your an 80s time machine love this ,dude (the wild life)needs this kind of love!
Love this one. Good job Kurt!
Amazing work as usual!! Question for you Kurt, what is your ultimate dream filming location?
My favorite line in the movie is:
*_"Rikki don't lose that number, you don't want to call nobody else...."_*
that was awesome, i had goosebump from the boombox location you found
Awesome video. All the effort really shows.
You so deserve 100,000 followers
Brilliant work Kurt and team! Thanks for the 80s! 👻🙏🏼
16:53 Compton? No big deal! It’s DTLA. It must be so much work to put these together, always a great job Kurt!
Nailed another one Kurt!
Another great video!
You did it again. Another great video. I appreciate all your hard work. You bring back my childhood 👍🏻
Pretty cool! Great job!
We used to have Easter Egg Hunts at Lacy Park when our kids were young and relatives lived in Alta Dena. Had no idea they filmed parts of the movie in that area. Great job of the video.
I had that same t-shirt in black when I was a kid!
I haven't seen this film Kurt so i will definitely check it out. But as always absolutely bloody fantastic, I love everything that you do even if I haven't seen the film. For me it always makes sense. Looking forward to the next one
"I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed." -Lloyd Dobler
Awesome movie, awesome video. Still hoping to see The Wild Life get the 80s Life treatment someday.
Your videos are always so thorough and well produced. Thank you for your work.
Love you channel, kind of off topic question but. My Bodyguard starring Matt Dillon, Adam Baldwin. The movie such a big part of my childhood and in the beginning when the music is playing and Clifford is riding his bike. It brings me to tears because of the look of the city. The nostalgia of the clothes, bike, cars. Would love to see you do this one day. I binge watch you over and over again. You have nailed some of my favorite movies of all time. You are an artist in your craft and you match things up like no other. I usually go to Shawn Clark for my horror but your my Classic movie guy. Thank you my friend. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Amazing work as always
Another epic walk back in time, thanks!
Great job as always! They used two different boomboxes for the scene, promo photos, VHS covers, and posters. One is a Toshiba, the other is a Sharp.
Good vid, Kurt!
Another great movie I saw at the Eagle Theatre. The other movie they were showing on the same bill that week was Jason Takes Manhattan.
I ALWAYS thought the karate dojo was the same one as in Karate Kid! Another great video!!
Thank you for showing ❤ this movie 😊
LMAOOOOO, he did look like her. @ 8:24
Not sure if Bob’s Java Jive still has bands but they definitely used to. My old band toured up to the Pacific Northwest and we played Bob’s Java Jive about 15 years ago or so. It was a pretty kooky and cool little spot. I don’t know if they actually sold coffee, I think it was just a bar/venue at the time.
One day you gotta make the drive to Vegas to see the van that was dropped into the pit in the movie Cherry 2000. Lestor aka Tim Thomerson dropped it into the pit and it is still there to this day.
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!
Great for multiple viewings!
I just thought about something. If you think about it, the pen was also like a character in this movie in the way it got passed from the father to the daughter (to hand to Lloyd), and then it goes from Diane to Lloyd, then from Lloyd BACK to the father from the hands of the daughter. Perfectly carried thru the movie. I think it's actually kinda cool if that was the director's intent - I'm curious to know.
i was his fan at one time, cusack was so good looking
Love this episode. Please do "Three Fugitives" next.
Thanks so much Kurt for putting this video together. Total fun flash back to the 80's. I worked in the movie. I was in the Graduation Scene and the party Scene. I was the kid in the Pink Shirt you shared in this video, when Lloyd and Diane walked into the party. I also had a Scene talking with Diane at the party but it didn't make the final cut. I would love to see it if you know how to see the deleted scenes. Please reach out. Thanks!
So Marty Crane AND Lilith Crane…..never knew!
How crazy was it that Marty Crane spent the next decade playing characters in Seattle, while filming 99% of the scenes in LA
Thanks for making this! Love it!
Recently saw the movie after many years and I told my boyfriend “ does she live in a park?😂”
Now this explains why.
Believe or not Kurt, a BRAND NEW Flooky's opened up in Chatsworth, on Devonshire and Mason.
Hey just thinking. When you talk to some of these homeowners you should really ask them if they want to do an on screen interview, even if just their voice. I'd be fascinated to also hear their stories!!
Awesome vid! Also there is now a 2nd Flooky’s that just opened in Chatsworth.
The Retro Dairy Mart looked very familiar too me for some reason. Then I remembered Adam the Woo just did a video from there. It was used in La La Land.
1987 classic “DRAGNET”, starring, Dan, Aykroyd and Tom Hanks; might be fun to hunt down the filming locations.
Please and thank you !
God this is fantastic.
Amazing the 7-11 is still there!
Lloyd, Lloyd all null and void. Looking for the truth but trying to avoid, Lloyd. Not sure what to do, dissed in the Malibu.
Great video. Lloyds's apartment is in Monrovia? I bet that if you added up all the LA stand-in locations that Cusack has filmed in, Monrovia would top that list. Grosse Pointe was Monrovia
You should have Aaron in more videos for just whatever... Good video!
Lloyd Dobler: ""Hey my brother can I borrow a copy of your 'Hey Soul Classics'?"
"No my brother, you have to go buy your own."- J-Man
Hey I live up here now hell yeah thanks brother
Nice tour! Think you could cover Fraternity Vacation and Hunk?
This was one of those "Seattle" movies I see all the time where the establishing shots are all in the Emerald City. But you never see the actors in actual Seattle locations. 10 Things I Hate About You kept it real though. Insides and outsides were all filmed in and around Seattle and Tacoma.
I live in Pasadena near where Cameron's was. They're planning to tear it down and build an In-N-Out Burger.
I knew it lol I was felt like the boom box scene didn’t line but with the outside of her house 🤔still an iconic scene tho
Very cool. & he does kind of looks like her 😅
"In your eyes..."
Music is great as always. I know the videos used to give a credit to an artist name, but is it really you that makes the music, Kurt? Would be good to know. The music in this video has a very wistful, melancholy, bittersweet quality that is especially appropriate for videos documenting the lost world of the 1980s.
Your friend looks more like the Lead Singer of the 80s band Talk Talk, check it out...
Lloyd Dobler : I got a question. If you guys know so much about women, how come you're here at like the Gas 'n' Sip on a Saturday night completely alone drinking beers with no women anywhere?
Joe : By choice, man.
I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen….yep, that was my high school dating life 😊
Lloyd Dobler: "I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that."
Lol how long did you spend looking at trees? Thats dedication.
Lloyd Dobler...alright
As someone who's lived in Seattle for over 49 years, I've always hated how they use other cities, especially Vancouver, for filming locations. It's simply a money saving ploy & nothing else.
The City of Seattle has been in negotiations with Hollywood & The Movie Business to get a better deal for years. In fact Patrick Dempsey demanded that they move all of the filming for Grey's Anatomy to Seattle, purley for authenticity purposes. However, he was over ruled by his co-workers.
