nanite only works for static meshes, I'd imagine it uses something akin to photogrammetry, or parallax occlusion mapping.

Im doing the same thing this guy's doing with Zbrush(not the exact same but creating something similar) and all it takes is learning and learning, practicing and practicing, and using lots of references.
