Homemaking is an art - our grandmothers generation knew this. All girls used to do home economics, even though by high school in my generation (80's), it was for just one year unless you chose to carry on. Thank you for showing a new generation the beauty of homemaking, so much has been lost.

@Raven...I highly agree with you. With more women having to work home economics got kicked to the curb. I'm trying to show my 10 yr old granddaughter about homemaking and she wants no part of it. Just wants Iphone, Ipad and all that type of thing. It's very sad to see young people not having interests in homemaking and not making their own living. Lots of people just have it too easy nowadays.

If you don't slow down enough, you miss the magic. What Jennifer has done is as simple as adding sugar to strawberries, but when done with intention and an eye of gratitude and beauty, it becomes a big affair. What some people in our culture may call "extra", or roll their eyes or mock, is really what so many hearts are yearning for. They hustle & rush so much that they can no longer find the joy in putting on a simple tablecloth, or putting a small bow in a basic ponytail.
Jennifer - you remind the everyday person that they can be elevated. And it isn't the china that does it, it is quiet while you read, the taste of the summer's fresh offerings, and the joy of giving others something to soften the blows of their day.
Thank you for sharing your art with us. It inspires and encourages me.

One of my favorite summertime treats is iced earl grey tea. You put two tea bags in a pot of water and steep. Then add a big fat gob of honey while the water is hot and stir in. When it cools, pour into a pitcher and add orange slices. Mmmmm. So refreshing in this humid weather. It is my go to summer tea.

Decorating, yes! We planted a sunflower patch this year on our farm and I have been endulging in littering our home with them lately. The apples are coming in and we are busy canning in our kitchen...green beans, peaches with honey, spaghetti sauce, corn and jam. Filling the larder for winter is such a joy and brings such comfort. I've always struggled decorating around our home in August, but there truly are fun things that you can use to celebrate the harvest and the last "taste" of summer! Love your channel! Many blessings!

Strawberry pie is tricky...cook the strawberry sauce down a bit (3-5 min) before adding the corn starch and water. Stir it in with the berries before adding to crust. It will set quicker and more solid when cutting. Took me quite a few tries to finally get a well-set pie.

I love your talent for bringing class and elegance to your homemaking, Jennifer! And it doesn’t have to cost a lost, either. I know, for I have been a homemaker for 32 years now. I am blessed with a husband who has enabled me to be a stay at home mother for most of those years. And my husband has never had a skill or a high paying job, either. God has always provided, and we have always tried to make do, or do without. We haven’t always had things that we wanted, but God has helped us through and provided our needs. And we have 11 children, 4 of whom we are still raising. The most important thing is creating a LOVING and NUTURING environment, and the rest doesn’t matter so much. Even the most humble home can be a haven if those things are practiced. And even the most humble home can be made beautiful and cozy with a little creativity and ingenuity. There are tons of ideas on the internet, and there are tons of inexpensive things to be found at yard sales and thrift stores. For example, I found a couple of beautiful cut work tablecloths at an estate sale for a couple of bucks each. After I washed the stains out and ironed them, one of them covers my nightstand that my dear elderly neighbor gave me (it was part of her mother’s bedroom suite). It looks lovely and elegant. I will probably make a curtain out of the other one. I found a beautiful vintage Christmas tablecloth that perfectly fits my 8 foot plastic folding table from Walmart. We have mostly folding chairs for the table, and two wooden chairs that I picked up at an estate sale. We don’t have a lot of nice furniture, but I try to make the most of what I have. That is how our grandmothers used to do. Our society has really lost sight of thankfulness and gratefulness.

I also wanted to add something but I had a nagging toddler to see too first 🙃
When I heard the poem , I thought it had an Emily Dickinson ring to it. It is now one of my go to poems...it also rang a bell in my heart because it is 16th August , 2021 in the Gregorian Calender but also Shrawan 32, 2078 in the Hindu Calander. So today is the end of the month of Shrawan which is the hottest and sultriest month due to the heat ans the Monsoon rains. I ended a month long fasting, prayers and abstinence from meat, onion and garlic. Today is the day of Shiva and I ended my fast with prayers and then got to sorting the laundry with your poem ringing on my ears. How wonderful it was!❤🙏 a blessed end to Summer. Hope you have a wonderful break with your family, love n regards, Jwala from Sikkim, India, (Somewhere in the Himalayas) 🇮🇳

Thank you for this inspiring video. After learning about your ten-item wardrobe a few years ago, I committed to updating my wardrobe twice yearly, a task that I had previously left until everything was falling apart. I neglected to update my wardrobe last year, but today I pulled out all my current and past clothes. I was pleasantly surprised that I only need to purchase a few items! Unsurprisingly, the quality pieces that I purchased in the past are the ones that I don't have to replace. Cheaper garments either wear out after a season or two, or, worse, never end up truly working for me at all. Thank you for sharing your expertise with those of us who don't love clothes shopping! I can't tell you how much you've helped me.

Dearest Jennifer, I really love your channel. You are so welcoming and serene. You are such a blessing to so many people, Jennifer! One of things that I think is so awesome, is your very unique way of gently drawing other people into your home and showing us how certain things can make such a huge difference. You never sound self-righteous or punitive and that is so refreshing! I've tried to watch some other channels from women who were teaching homemaking, but they sounded so harsh. I think that approach really turns a lot of people off because the world we live in is often harsh. I think you mentioned that you love homemaking and If I'm really honest with myself, I really only like the decorating part of homemaking. It's not that I don't clean, cook and organize. I have to do those things because it wouldn't be possible to enjoy decorating if the home is in constant disarray. My challenge is that I work about 50 hours a week and I'm trying to take better care of my home. I have every Wednesday off and I get every other Sunday off, but it's so difficult for me not to sleep in because I'm so tired. Your channel is the inspiration I need to continue doing the best that I can. I've always wanted to create a nurturing environment because home should be a sanctuary for those who live in it and it's very wonderful to have a place of respite that is clean, nicely decorated and above all, PEACEFUL. I love classical music and I'm a literature major, so my idea of a perfect hour or two would be to have tea with some type of cake or pastry and read poetry from the Romantic Era. However, I almost never have the time to indulge in those things. Still, I have to start somewhere on my journey toward a more elegant home and all I can do is pace myself and do the best that I can while I'm working on the rest of it. My favorite seasons are Fall and Winter because I love to decorate with lanterns. I have about 8 of them in various sizes, colors and shapes that I use in almost every room of the house. My husband loves it when we entertain for the holidays, but we haven't been able to do that for quite a long time. Right now I'm trying to look forward to cooler days and chilly evenings because we've adopted one very nice little ritual since the pandemic. We have a fire pit next to our covered patio and about 4 nights out of the week we go outside at dusk, light it and spend about 1.5 to 2.0 hours outside. I often bring dinner outside and our little female Shit-Zu joins us by sitting on her little puppy couch. This is my husband's favorite way to spend the evening and it is for me as well. It seems like you have mastered the art of HYGGE. Have you heard of the Danish word, HYGGE which roughly translates to "COZY"?

I loved everything about this video. But I just have to remark on your dining room- STUNNING!! The wallpaper looks fabulous and the flower arrangement adds just the right touch. Now, I’m off to add strawberries to my grocery list bc that pie looks delicious!

I love all the sounds of homemaking😍 They are delightful and comforting. I remember as a child listening to the sound of my Mom working in the kitchen in the early morning.
