"I'm Doug and I'm addicted to speed" means something completely different where I'm from.
Sniff sniff
😂 you must live in the Midwest like me.
10 to 2 chasing the dragon
Yeah younger audiences might mistake what crime you like to commit
He's from Ohio. It means something completely different where he's from too.
"Ran it up to 191 MPH, probably could have hit 200, but thought I'd better keep it safe" That's some legendary shit right there.
Would love to see what people could do with LEO cooperation. Would be some epic speeds.
@@lesliegossner681 stg man, talk about a long shot but imagine requesting a preemptive pardon from the President to set a record so fast no sane individual would ever bother to attempt it again. Call it a pursuit of American Excellence or something patriotic
@@OCtheG Propose it to Trump when he is in the house again. I bet he'd go for it.
Lol
“Probably could have hit 200 mph, but thought better keep it safe”.
So kept it at a pedestrian 191
Lol
Much safer that way. Those 9 extra MPH make all the difference.
That's how I've always felt about BMW being electronically limited to 155mph. Good thing they're keeping us to a safe speed!
GMTA 😂
Seriously my thoughts
"The best cannonball car is somebody else's car." lol wisdom.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Merry Christmas mate
Merry Christmas 🎄
VINwiki is the best thing that I found during corona
Merry Xmas m8
Your the best Ed Happy Holidays
I live in Panama. We can do coast to coast in about 20 minutes.
yeah, and you can do it driving east!
@@hellfun1337 and probably not bust the speed limit 😂
You can walk coast to coast in less than 24h.
@@hellfun1337 No.
I lived in PTY. I want to know how you managed to avoid the traffic!
"I ran the thing to 191 mph" - instant thumbs up!
191 "mph "for safety" lol
Probably could of hit 200, but thought better keep it safe
Lol
@@2dthoughts Personally 150 to 200 all feels the same. One wrong move and I'm finished.
@@corbingreiner9879 the tires were not rated for over 200 you know how bad it would be to over speed your tires. you ever seen a rc tire over speed how it balloons out? thats what happens with full size tires at over speed
@@GoblinUrNuts They separate and get all lumpy in my experience ( I’ve destroyed three sets of tires this way over the years...🤷♂️)
I'd love to hear a story about the Australian "Big Lap". That is a lap of Australia along Highway One in the fastest time - around 14,500km in 5 days! So Ed, do you have any contacts Down Under? It'd make an interesting yarn...
+1
Yes please
You do know that get busted doing over 90 mph over here in all but one state is likely instant loss of licence -$2000+ fine.

@@Super1275gt sense of adventure is fine, financial status sadly lacking!
The finale of the Car Trek Christmas Special goes live at noon Eastern on Tavarish's channel.
Thanks for the great content. Merry Christmas 🎄
merry Christmas ed. Hope you and family have a great day. Love this channel.
I'm loving Car Trek!!! Merry Christmas Ed 🎅🤶🎄
Ed, thanks to the whole team for bringing us CarTrek. You had me genuinely laughing hard on this one man, you reactions and mannerisms is where it's at, we all relate to it and it is working well. Also Freddie mimicking Tyler was truly the best scene from the series so far, Merry Christmas brother.
Dunno what that means, but it’s 445 Saturday morning where I am so I’m checking
This Arnie guy always looks like he’s about to sneeze
I can just imagine him driving head down staring furiously through his eyebrows at the road ahead averaging 119mph
I cant unsee it now!
Ya lol
I cant unsee it either lol
It’s that coke lmao
Nice wife:
Yeah go for it..
Just make it home for Christmas dinner.
: no problem
This is good editing, between the multiple stories told step by step and all the pictures it really adds to the narrative. Merry Christmas, let's hope next year is better.
3:25 You got a cool wife dude... Mine would probably have stabbed me.
Right? I was surprised she said yes, lol
Cannonballing is the best speedrun category
Last time I was this early, all the Car Trek cars were still functional
The VA card "accident" is brilliant!! Seriously, if they, or any family members have ever served, you're driving away clean! What a power move!!
Ever since I got Disabled Veteran plates on my car I haven't been pulled over once, and I drive over the speed limit about 90% of the time. I also have Army Ranger license plate frames, which probably doesn't hurt.
If I ever got pulled over for 117, I’d be in jail.
You say that, but you'd be surprised. Most cops don't seem to be interested in arresting you for speed _alone_ (general recklessness and/or being an asshole excluded.)
It obviously happens, but I'd estimate less than 30% of the time.( In my experience at least, and in the US--can't speak to elsewhere of course.)
@@TravisTerrell I got pulled for 108 in a 65. Expensive ticket but made it to work that morning.
@@nickboucher7339 did 96 in a 55, got out of the barracks 4 hours later lol.
Decades ago I was clocked at 115 mph in a 55 zone in PA at 2am in a Volvo V70 T5. Huge ticket but I was allowed to continue my drive from NC to MA.
Doing 100 in a 55 big ass ticket still made it home from Vegas
Congratulations! I hope one day you guys achieve a sub 24hr in the actual cannonball route from New York to Los Angeles. And eventually a c2c from dawn to dusk.
Breaking this record is easy, breaking this record and staying out of jail is not so easy.......
Best Christmas present ever!
Here I thought 42 hrs in a civic with a bunch of Adderall was impressive.
Is that 0-60?
@@thumbtak No, cross country on prescription meth.
@@mikeschmidt4800 I was making a Honda joke...
@@thumbtak It wasn't lost on me, I drove one to 480k miles and it still did 0-50 in less than 42 hours. Fockin thing was a beast!
it's always so exciting to sit and listen to all the coast to coast stories. i need to do something like this in my country. Ed, thank you so much for allowing everyone to come in and share their story
Really glad I have a 175mph sign commemorating their records, these guys are awesome.
8:00 "I ran the thing up to 191 MIles per hour. Probably could have hit 200 but I thought - better keep it safe" 🤣🤣🤣
Ah yes, because 200 mph is insanely dangerous but 191 mph is perfectly safe
@@jordanabendroth6458 You laugh, but the tires could probably handle up to 200 so it's better to not risk it when you're already maintaining a high speed.
Was going 191mph and probably could have hit 200 but wanted to keep it safe.
Think I’ll scratch a hole to my brain to figure the logic on that one.
Edit: I’m well aware of the mechanical ramifications of additional MPH at those speeds. Consider though that 9mph more on public roads at about 3X the speed limit you’ve abandoned safety. And no argument of driver skill, countermeasures, car’s ability, etc... is a legitimate excuse. I’m not condemning the herculean feat they accomplished, just found that comment perplexing.
Durp
Safe for the car maybe
Maybe he wanted to save gas also because once over 200 mph the mpg goes to hell, everybody knows that 😂😂😂
Actually, at that high of a speed, even a small increase carries much stress put on the car along. Aerodynamic effects and stresses on moving parts especially tyres, don't increase linearly with speed, but rather exponentially. A tyre that is stable at 190mph for long periods of time, might just shatter into a million pieces or overheat and lose traction after a couple of miles doing 210. There is a logic in that.
200 mph rated tires are very expensive he probably did not want an over speed tire blowout hes already running at their max speed
by 54 seconds. i'd be both laughing and crying if i was the one doing it
Some of the very best auto stories ever told of cannonball....just tons of good anxiety and high speed motoring..... loving all this
Merry Christmas! This was an amazing story with great editing. Thank you Arne, David, and Doug for pushing limits and inspiring gearheads around the world!
Legendary story. Merry christmas to the 🐐s at vinwiki‼️
i love when im bored and Vinwiki posts a new video! its very entertaining.
"I already got it up too 191, nearing 200 and I thought better keep it safe" classic quote
These three are the best, I hope to see more of them! Amazing.
LOVE these stories. Thanks VINwiki!! Merry Christmas!
For a CAR GUY these Canenball stories are PURE CATNIP. THANKYOU!!!
Fantastic Video , love Doug and Arine . Merry Christmas everyone!
may i add i like the interactive story teller thing you have going ( having 3 people tell the story instead of one ) it gives a little different perspective and different emotion. awesome
Fantastic story fellas! Much love...Merry Christmas!!!
Merry Christmas. Thank you for posting this video.
Merry Christmas Ed and well done to all of them
i wish i was in the car for 24 hours to hear that roaring 5.5l v8! I also notices how there was less drama happening in the car that went the fastest from coast to coast then in cars that didn't! its amazing how it all depends on the type of people you do it with! bravo!
Merry Christmas Ed!🎄
Merry Christmas Ed and the VINWIKI family.
Christmas day may not have many cops on the road, but the ones that are there probably aren't real happy about working on Christmas
Merry Christmas Edd. From my family to yours.
Thank you for the upload on Christmas ❤️
191 mph on the Atchafalaya basin bridge is insane!!!!!!
How did they not catch air doing the speed limit if feels like you will catch air
Great job guys. The e63 looks like my uncle's 2012 E350 I converted to look like an e63 AMG (in white). Unfortunately he went canon balling it into a pole within days of getting it ready for the Christmas holiday.
Haha, great video Ed. I like that we get to see the setup. Makes my setup look very tame.
Congratulations! Great to see you guys by Tower 5 in OB!
I love these stories. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
It took me 5 days to this on my own. From orange county to winter haven FL. Sure, I wasn't trying to break any records but I wouldn't even try it either. Great job guys!
Happy holidays vinwiki!
these are the best vinwiki stories. hands down.
Thanks Ed ... This is the best!
A proper Christmas story!
I literally met david in San Diego Automotive Museum two years ago in SD the day after he did this..... I remember him telling me how he just broke the record driving across the country in a Mercedes and there he was casually looking at cars in the museum.... I don’t think my dad believed/remember meeting him but I 100 percent remember this man telling me that he did this run and had the car tucked away in a garage because there was a lot of heat on it. Can’t believe I just stumbled across a video of him talking about it.
I could watch these stories all day! What a sory, you've captivated me to look at E63s now
that's awesome and cool to see someone else take the same route as me. I broke the bike record, same exact spots, except went dog beach to jax beach to get more night driving with the FLIR. i think i logged 2408.1 miles, more gas stops i'm guessing. great work guys!!
Loved this story! Merry Christmas to everyone, hope everyone can stay safe and enjoy the holidays
The perfect Christmas special
Instant legendary status! Congrats.
Merry Christmas form Wisconsin! Thank You for keeping the Cannonball and the memory of Brock Yates alive and well in the very challenging times that we are all living in now. I got a question. Is there a cannonball record for the fastest time going corner to corner? (Washington state to Key West, Florida.) Is there any record of this? Thanks again and have a better 2021 you and your family.
I think Alex Roy did something like that. Maybe Seattle to Miami?
Going through Texas would be a nightmare in-terms of teh popo.
I’m in!!!! Looks at wife, am I in?!? Awesome lol. Best Xmas morning story ever thx! Happy holidays to everyone......
What a great wife!
I've done I-80 end to end (NYC to SFO) in about three days, but it was solo, and included two nights in motels!
What a story, or stories !!! Excellent mini doc here. MUST WATCH IF YOU LIKE GOOD STORIES!!!! ❤
That's cool AF. I'd love to try that on a bike. Be a little sketchy though with all the weather change
Your back would be fucked
Merry Cannonball christmas everyone!
Btw, that ford interceptor manual shirt is great!
Next you guys fly thru el paso, let me know, i (with some friends) will be a set of eyes for this area
I love these stories. Not sure if ever be brave enough to drive that fast myself though.
Great story guys... congratulations that has to be a helluva ride
Best VinWiki story yet
Awesome!
Got a vinwiki and a switchcars shirt for Christmas!
That was possibly the best present I got today, a new vinwiki video!
Now how about a new car trek?
You guys are awesome, super cool video
8:00 because 191 is much safer than 200 :)
SlideWide They are built contemplating a safety margin. Say, rated at 200mph max, you can probably go "safely" up to 210mph.
I am unaware of the exact numbers but that's how most stuff is designed and constructed.
In numbers, it's an exact nine safer ....
I heard you being interviewed on the Criminal podcast about the first Cannonball etc just a week or two ago. Great story!!!
I left Everett Washington about 20 minutes north of Seattle at about 10pm on a Friday 8am Monday I was in Carrollton GA. We were driving a 91 Ford ranger with a 4cyl towing a Suzuki Samurai on a Uhaul tow dolly. We only had a CB to listen to the truckers to find the speed traps
You guys are amazing!
"...we were 15 mins out and I still had 22 miles to go..."
Hope you remembered to power your flux capacitor.
I drove Santa Cruz to San Diego, 525 miles, in 5.75 hours, 92 mph as I recall. May 1978. Next day PSA 182 Crashed one mile from me. But that's another story. Drove a 1974 MGB!
Huh?
It sounded like Speeders Anonymous when doug started talking 😂
great story! Merry Christmas to VINwiki and all those car peeps out there! #justdrive

Vinwiki needs to start selling scripts right here in hollywood ! LOVE IT! I'm in los angeles now, I can get us a head start LOL!
“Could have gotten up to 200 mph but decided to keep it safe at 191” 😂😂😂 excellent line!
Absolute greatest Christmas story
Thank you for saying “Merry Christmas”!!!! Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!
Try this...Paramus NJ to Burbank CA. I worked all day in NJ and left Paramus at 4 PM on Friday and yes, I-80 had usual traffic. I made it to Burbank at 11 am on Monday. Total miles with my busy day in NJ was over 2,900 miles. I usually ran about 4 mph above the speed limit but not over 70 mph as my rig is governed at that limit. It was consistent driving and no messing around smelling the Rose's. I have a 2019 Peterbilt with a pre 2000 refurbished Detroit Series 60.
I should get a shirt for that!
I've also done the southern run from Miami beach convention center to Los Angeles Convention center. Left Miami around 12:30 PM on a friday and arrived LA at 2:30 am on Monday. I'll take two shirts, please.
I cant believe you guys saw a cop on Christmas! I drove from CT to FL on Christmas one year and was astonished that I didn't see a single cop in any state!
We lost count at 50 or so. It was insanity
This is absolutely mind boggling
Jesus, that guy Doug cost them about 30 mins with the pull overs.
Time flies by. Didn't realize it was 2 years ago!
Got an AMG ad on the video. Perfect product placement.
Merry Christmas ED
Merry Christmas!
something tells me Ed tried to break the record this year and we might not know before 2022
“My name is Doug and I’m addicted to speed” 😂
