Such a thorough review! I’m planning to buy my first car, and after watching this video, I think the Jazz is an easy choice for me, especially with Honda NZ’s 0 deposit and 0% interest offer.
Thanks for the feedback! Certainly up there in the segment, but cars like the MG3 Hybrid+ or Hyundai i20 may be better buys for people, depending on their criteria.
Thanks - very comprehensive and clear review. I particularly appreciated the explanation of the way this particular hybrid system juggles the ICE and electric motors, a little differently from way Toyota has been doing it.
Thanks for another detailed and well thought through car review Jasper. However, I must take issue with your appreciation of the car's exterior styling. Granted, the latest iteration of the Jazz looks slightly improved compared to its earlier edition, but to my eyes it has always looked as though when sat in the design studio, the Japanese designers pictured a retired headmistress sat at the wheel ! Its definitely not a head-turner. Having said that, the interior, like many Honda models, is attractive and nicely laid out with some clever features like the magic seats and twin glove boxes. As for being a family car - well, maybe, if you' ve two very small children, but with such a compact boot when the rear seats are being used, where would you put all the luggage and push chairs etc. ? I've considered this car myself as it has a lot going for it, but think for me the new Renault Captur or Citroen C4 make more sense.
I hope we can agree that this generation definitely looks better than the one available around 2016, too! Love the work Honda have done on the interior, it's a very human car.
A good, honest small car that looks like it has been designed to do well everything that its intended to do. It also doesnt pretend to be something that it isn't. Well done Honda. Expensive though, but isnt just about every new car these days? It is the polar opposite in just about every way (apart from size) to the Jeep Avenger that BU tested recently.
Just bought a Mk 4 Jazz Crosstar. The current crop of Hondas are really premium cars, solid, well-designed and a joy to drive. Great safety kit and driving aids. I couldn't believe how inexpensive my car was. Why do people spend 50% more just for a German badge and even then you get minimal kit. My Jazz has it all. Thank you, Honda!
You forgot to mention the sport model you're in has slightly stiffer suspension than the regular model and less body roll due to better anti-roll bars, im not sure if its all models or just the sport but compared to the pre facelift model the rear dampers are firmer. If i could afford it id trade my Hybrid Yaris in for one as the new Yaris Hybrid is smaller than mine and the Yaris cross although bigger it's less practical and no better on fuel than the Jazz !
Yes, the Sport Model does indeed have different suspension in comparison to the normal Jazz - hence how well it handles and the slightly firmer (but still very comfortable!) ride. The Jazz is a great car and I think you'd find the interior to be nicer than the Yaris or Yaris Cross.
I would have LOVED a slightly larger version of this. I was on the fence about buying a Jazz but ultimately decided on a larger PHEV (small child etc etc). I do love the Jazz, though.
That infotainment screen with an upward tilt is just asking for problems with light reflections on it even though it has a non shiny surface. At the very least it should be vertical?
This looks like the RS version we get here in New Zealand. I took a couple of these for a test drive recently. I was very impressed, handled really well and cheap in gas. What’s not to like?
So can you manually surpass electric motor driving like you said that there is some gear? And for low mileage drivers will the electric motor discharge if it's parked for a while?
We would also expect people looking at purchasing this car to test drive one prior to pulling the trigger. Apologies for missing this point from the video but it's difficult to ensure every single detail is captured.
That's important for me. I test drove a Jazz in 2021 and found the suspension very soggy. In fact I began to feel car-sick even while driving, which is unusual for me. Very few road tests mentioned this, although one French review found poor body rigidity, which might explain my reaction
@@BuckleUpShow That's a very good point, in 30 years of driving only 3. But next time it could totally destroy the tyre and the foam will be no good. Looked online and you can cut away the black foam insert and fit a spare into the wheel well.
BEWARE if buying 2 hand 20 to 23 models have faulty brake simulators costing £2500. Honda has recalled 500,000 to replace free in Japan but Honda UK will not and fight you afor £2.5K and months off the road.
Difficult. I like this car, just not its price. Yaris comes cheaper and retains its value better. I just compared the asking prices for used 2013+ models with under 100k miles, and Yaris is clearly valued higher despite lower purchase price for a new vehicle (and probably lower maintenance & fuel costs as well). Plus in my experience finding aftermarket spares for a Honda can be difficult. And then even the Yaris seems expensive for such a small car. The Suzuki Swift seems quite a bit more lucrative in terms of price (and perhaps practicality). What a difficult time to be buying a car. The bottom end of the market just vanished and previously affordable models have suddenly got a 50% price hike over the past few years. Now the Kia Picanto represents the bottom end, but even that car got a significant price hike. And then you look at it, well, it's not even a mild hybrid.. that would be fine if it was actually a cheap car (like it was five years ago) but now I have to ask myself whether it makes sense to buy a "cheap" pure-petrol city car with so-so mileage if you can get a clearly more efficient hybrid that costs only a few grand more.
@@BuckleUpShow I do under 2000 miles a year total, maybe a few dozen on the motorway. Highest speed limit for most trips is 100 km/h, or 80 km/h during the winter. That should explain why it is so difficult for me to justify paying ~10k eur extra for a Jazz over something like a Picanto.
Thanks... You mentioned that it "𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭"? What is the ground clearance? Why do car reviewers never state the ground clearance yet it is very important to many people? Cars have progressively "gone to the ground"!! You have to think twice what to buy if you have to deal with snow or if you regularly go off the road a bit. Thanks again
Lift is being used in the visual sense, not in terms of ground clearance. The styling elements make the car more interesting to look at; nothing to do with ground clearance.

Honda Jazz. Always has been good, only gets better as time goes on.

Great review of a great, under appreciated car. Love the flexible interior and the physical controls especially.
It's very refreshing having such a practical and usable interior in a new car in 2024!

@@BuckleUpShow a civic ): they stopped selling in 2020
Would you choose the Jazz over the Yaris?
If you want more space and a nicer interior, yes. If you want THE most fuel efficiency humanly possible, no.
The new Yaris has a very claustrophobic feel at the back. The fuel efficiency is only minimally better than the Jazz.
Because that is whats in the back of a redbull....
The Yaris looks great and drives well but it is very poor for rear passengers with much less space than the Jazz.
@@BillRiley-y1f Yes, indeed!

So can you manually surpass electric motor driving like you said that there is some gear? And for low mileage drivers will the electric motor discharge if it's parked for a while?
No you can't manually bypass the electric motor
The suspension on the Sport model being tested is firmer than on the rest of the range

You would only fit a can of tyre foam in the space available under the boot floor, realistically.
