    “The orange juice was like a rock. You could have thrown it at someone and knocked them down” is by far the best line of the vid! Like it’s totally normal to throw rocks at people! 😂
    Great racing, both of you! I can’t imagine how cold it was. I kept waiting for you to take off your jacket and hat!

    • @IRunThings

      Haha. The OJ was a legit weapon Matt!! We got to the car and put it against the vent to thaw it and it took a while. And nope. No taking off of hat and jacket. I took off my gloves and put them back on about 2 miles later. I didn't even sweat!! On the plus side, no sweat, no chaffing 😆

    • @its_Matt_B_

      The no sweat no chaffing sure is a silver lining of cold weather!

    Great video, Suzie! Congratulations to you and your brother for pushing through such incredibly challenging conditions. So strong and so inspiring as always! Wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving! Cheers, Scott🤓

      Thanks so much Scott!!! In retrospect, we did some crazy stuff!! Apparently out of 13k people who signed up, only 8k crossed the finish line... that is a lot of people who either didn't show up or didn't finish!
      I'd say Happy Thanksgiving back at you, but I know in Canada you celebrate sooner than us here in the US. :)

      @@IRunThings I'm sure he came away with some new stories to tell, which is the biggest thing we get from races. And you did an incredible job of helping him to finish.

      I did what he would have done for me. We were in it together. And given the weather conditions it could have happened to me too. But yes I am sure he is telling all his running friends back in Spain how frigging cold it was... haha

    I Suzie! Congratulations! I always wanted to run the Philly marathon. I stick to locals (Marine Corps, National, Baltimore and Bishop's). I hate running in cold weather! 🥶It's better than hot though, you can always take your layers off. I hope you do more videos! Take care!😃👋🏽👨🏽‍⚕️🏃🏽‍♂️

    What an amazing story of determination with your brother! You did a great job Suzie sticking it out with him. We all know how it feels when you just feel like you can’t finish. But you got him through and wow what a beautiful metal you guys got. On a sidenote I was keeping an eye out for my friend Paul hoping I would catch a glimpse of him in your videos but I didn’t see him. But I did see the skateboard guy and Lara also saw that skateboard guy on her marathon in Dublin which was just a couple weeks before you did yours. I guess it’s a small world! Great video!

    Good sisters stick with their family as you did! I thought the weather would be better for you in Philly. My runner buddy told me the wind was killer on Kelly Drive. So glad you made it to the end. Believe or not I ran 14 at the shore and because the wind was from the west it wasn't as bad. Congrats!

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you!!!! Kelly Drive was tough. It's tough without the wind and the cold temperatures because it's a long stretch and it's an out and back. But I am sure running in the shore wasn't easy either!!! Kudos to you for running 14 miles there!

    Meanwhile.... 3 months later ...
    I was cold just watching that! ❄️⛄
    Horrible! Your poor brother... Hat tip 🎩 to him for being on the verge of hypothermia but having the strength of will (and his sisters help!) to *get it done*
    Anecdote:
    The coldest I have ever been in a race was 10 or so years ago.... hilly off road, 21 miler, difficult underfoot - sticky mud - trainers had to be extracted from mud in my socked feet several times slippery chalk. Most interesting the constant cold/sleety rain had turned paths into streams so we were constantly on the uphill sections running through water. I saw 1 tiny gal (about your size) being helped out of a *puddle* that came up to her chest!
    The wind was blowing cold cold cold, I wasn't wearing nearly enough. Mud all over me.... about 4 miles fron the end there was hot tea and cake - my mouth was gloriously full of tea, cake and mud from my hands, that kept me going - the warmth of the village hall at the end was a delight: a real buzz of relief from all who finished. It took 3hrs 50mins it seemed more like 6 hours!

      Oh my God. Your race experience sounds bad... but you strike me as a super positive individual that takes the bad with the good. I am that way too. I am grateful that I ran with my brother, Id just wish that it would have been better for his sake, not for mine. I am the older so in many ways I feel like he is my responsibility as the older sibling (and the host) to take control of the situation. But he would have done the same for me if the situation had been reversed.

    Congrats on toughing it out! Ran this one as well, and out of 63 marathons, this was one of the hardest, conditions wise, that I have run. And you are spot on about the OJ! The mini Kind bars were also frozen. Had to watch to not chip a tooth!

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  2 роки тому +2

      All I ended up having at the end was the chicken soup and a half a bagel. The chicken soup felt heavenly :)
      And that is something, that out of 63 marathons this was the hardest you've run condition wise. It was mine as well but I have only run 6!!!
      Congrats to you as well!

    Congratulations! That time is still super good though. I'm sure it was a great experience to get to run it with your brother too.
    Honestly, the cold is one of the reasons why I have never really sign up for many races between October and March. I am not a cold weather person at all. Even though it's not as cold in Tennessee in the Winter as Pennsylvania, you never know if it is going to be 75 degrees or -5 degrees that time of year. I also feel like I'm breathing knives into my lungs when I run in cold temperatures.

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  2 роки тому +2

      It took me a while to get used to the temperatures, to be honest. And I still do not enjoy running when it's that cold. Anything under 35 and I run on the treadmill.... although now we can say we ran a SUPER HARD marathon and lived to tell the story!! LOL. The feeling of accomplishment is there for sure!
