3:08:30 The mechanism you are asking about, the one you said looks modern, is the Antikythera Mechanism, an ancient greek device that is essentially a hand-powered orrery that was used to predict astronomical positions, eclipses etc. many decades in the future. It is considered to be the first analogue computer.
@@PermanentViolet you should look up some info about Norse mythology too if you haven't already. There are lots of videos on youtube. This game is even better when you understand who Loki and Baldur are and the story of the mistletoe
One of my favorite scenes is Kratos cutting down the tree in the beginning. It introduces him well. Strong, serious, sad. When he screams while chopping, was it angry, pained? Both? He interrupts Atreus' prayer, who turns to see him in the door, shrouded in darkness, which sums up their relationship. The boy lost his mother, and turns to his father, who in the moment is represented by the sound of cold and biting wind, darkness, and a deep, authoritative, and intimidating musical sting. There is no warmth between them in that moment, he views his father as cold, scary, and veiled in mystery. A stranger. A perfect intro.
Actually 🥸🥸, Kratos cutting down the tree at the beginning is symbolic of how he "makes" Atreus, because in mythology, Kratos represents Farbauti, who is supposed to bring Loki to life when his ax meets Laufey's body., so actually, this was some king of p*** 😅😅
Anyone could tell that this edit was a true labor of love. The slide show is the perfect ending to a reverent and emotional journey that even the developers would be proud of, as we are. Cheers.
This video is the definitive God of War experience as far as I am concerned. Such a comprehensive and thoughtful video that is a great way for anyone to re-experience this epic game.
@@abunchahoopla4392 To expand on this a little bit, even watching someone's reaction to this game is more satisfying when that person has also played the first three games before jumping into GoW 2018.

Absolutely loved your personal reactions but just as much loved he format of this reaction. I often times watch playthroughs and have to scan through to find not only reactions to major cutscenes but even the little stuff like reacting to one of Mimir's boat stories, for example. This is honestly the gold standard of what a reaction should be, its perfect, and I expect it took a lot more editing than most people are willing to put in but I just wanted to say I really appreciate the video.
This is perfect. When I already played the game, I don't enjoy watching every single aspect of it again, so I find myself skipping through most of the content that doesn't involve cutscenes, so this right here is heaven
I’m just like you, girl who never was allowed to play any video games in my childhood and discovering this amazing media later in life. God of War was def part of my epiphany on how video games can be masterpieces.
Even seeing the small bits and pieces of you playing this game made me want to experience it for myself. I can't wait to do that someday. Thank you for taking the time to edit your playthrough for all of us! You're incredible!
I don't usually comment, but after finishing the video I realized it had only 100 likes and I was shocked. You deserve so much more than that! I love your videos! The way you let your emotions run through you while experiencing these great stories and the way you express yourself gives me a catharsis I thought I had lost for videogames. Games are art, your videos, but your videos, the feelings you transmit to your audience, are also very much art and I'm so glad I found a youtuber like you! Oh, and your take on Katos's voice was amazing
I was never sure if I was interested in the reboot games as they changed from the original hack and slash. But after watching you play, and your emotional investment, I can't wait for Ragnarok to hit PC. Watching you play legitimately makes me excited about gaming! Truly happy for the reboot series.
so many of my reactions mirrored yours, this was AMAZING to watch and relive the story through you! reactions to both Brok and Sindri moments, reactions to every tender father-son moment or tense moment between Kratos and Atreus (AND EVERY TIME HE AAAALMOST TOUCHED HIS SHOULDER LIKE PLS JUST COMFORT YOUR SON), wanting to get everyyyyy chest, freaking out over timed rune puzzles etc etc etc thanks for the video! and for the kingdom hearts references 😂
I just finished this epic last night! I broke it up in 30min sessions while on my stationary bike, it kinda felt like you and I were work out buddies in Kratos' cross fit gym and we had no idea how intense it would be! Lol! I've always loved this series despite only play a few titles back during the ps2 era, so you finding it and being super into this new chapter of the games made me so happy! I watched along live for a good chunk of the playthrough on stream but I loved that this video is a comprehensive story of your experience with the game and it filled in the gaps I missed when I couldn't watch it the first time around! I say all this to say what an excellent video Violet!! I can't wait for the ragnarok video and I would love it to be a long epic like this aswell, See you at the spartan gym and remember there's no such thing as too much photo mode!
Fantastic video! Thought I'd have to break it up due to length but ended up binging the entire video. The photo slideshow at the end was a great addition
oh nice, it's that god of photo mode game you played with the dad and the boy. Seriously tho, regardless of youtube algorithm or whatever, I like this format! you can just skip to any part very simple and very clean. Thanks for the chapter list!

I've never seen or heard of you before, but the god of war franchise is my favorite!!! I am so passionate about those games and everything that was put into them. I have the platinum trophy for every god of war game out, so I really know the games well and pay attention to every detail. And I absolutely love how much attention you pay to detail and I love the things you notice and point out, from the level design and the character models to the music and the emotion that is carried with every scene. This game is a true masterpiece and I genuinely just wanted to see how you took everything in as a first time viewer because I know how this game makes me feel, so I will always be interested in seeing how someone else takes it in. I literally cry every single time I play it or even watch someone play it, and I gotta admit, I was balling a lot watching you play and react to some of the scenes. I love the way your mind works and thinks, and the timing of your photo mode captures is phenomenal, I love it!!! I will definitely be following you and watching the ragnarok video next. There were a few small parts that you left out but I totally understand with it being over a 4 hour video, but all in all it was really, really well put together. I'm highly impressed with your work. Great job and keep up the good work.
On a Side note you should check out the Raising Kratos: God of war documentary. Its an amazing behind the scenes look at the making of this masterpiece.
i watched raising kratos after beating this game! incredible insight on the game and team behind the masterpiece. the entire documentary is fantastic but there were a few moments that really hit close to home. it should be recommended watch for anyone who plays god of war (2018).
In mythology, Baldur was proud of his invulnerability, and the other gods would play a game of hitting him with things. This ended when Loki tricked a blind god into shooting Baldur with an arrow made of mistletoe, which undid the enchantment and killed him - this started fimbulwinter, the winter to last three winters, which is the precursor to Ragnarök, the war to end all wars. Magni and Modi, the sons of Thor, were destined to survive Ragnarök, which was the reason that Modi was so shocked when Kratos killed Magni.
From what I know of Norse mythology, most of the things that have been changed from the original can be explained by the fact that, in the original mythology, Loki was there and was a main player. In this version, he's not part of it. So this is how those gods might have been changed without Loki's presence from the beginning.
"I bet he carries around a pouch of seasoning's for cooking" BOY, I have made you porridge with a whiff of mother. Mother? I ran out of black pepper...
The chest punching actually has a funny backstory. In the earlier games you had to spam O to open chests so the fans kept trolling the devs with the question how it was possible for Kratos to fail at opening a simple chest when he can also lift buildings and smash giants. Ultimately they were fed up with explaining that it is simply a game mechanic they chose to add which doesnt have any relevance for the games lore or powerscaling so now Kratos just punches threw them.
I absolutely adore the opening of this game! Meeting the stranger and thinking hes actually talking about Kratos and not his wife aka a Giant/Jotunn because the dialogue works for both. And then everything surrounding this journey is so well executed ❤
This is such a good video. I love how you cut all the important parts and merge them into one. You played well, your commentaries are great, and your reactions are great. I had a good time watching this. Subscribed!
I'm not exactly sure what religion that box in tyr's temple is from but the dials almost certainly represent the celestial bodies. Though the text on it is definitely the runes from Midgard, That doesn't necessarily prove that its nordic in origin because hell Tyr himself could have written on the box. 3:08:46
Beautiful story full of emotions. I always said that GOW games were ahead of their time, ever since the first one released on PS2. The story, the mechanics, the graphics, when I played the first GOW several years ago it was very impressive. I'm glad you played this new ''re-invented'' GOW and that you enjoyed it as much as I did. Have you seen the ''God of War: Ascension "From Ashes" live action trailer that was released on TV?, it's old, but very good.
One of the important things to remember is that, while the Norse gods aged and got weaker, the Greek gods got stronger as they got older. At this point kratos is like 900 years old I think? The reason things go so slowly sometimes is because he is having to hold back so he doesn't just destroy what he's doing. This is also why he holds back his rage. If he was at full strength, he doesn't want to risk killing his family again, and doesn't want to be the engine of destruction he used to be. On a different note, what was with with the chisel sections? Did you not play with vibration or something? Because you're not supposed to just randomly hack at the crystal 😂
I have to say, I am straight up BLOWN AWAY by the way you have out this together. Never watched you beforehand, but I just found myself watching this entire video of yours. DEFINITELY a new subscriber in me. 💪🏽

It's such a pity that there aren't all the full videos of your passage, I would love to watch them all. You notice so many details that I haven't seen and go deep into the game and enjoy it.
2:17:39 you have a line from Sindri I haven't heard before. I was always trying to exhaust their dialogue every time I encountered one of them. I didn't know that Magni and Modi had different mom's.
I just beat this game yesterday, after months of wanting to play it, and after a month of grinding. This has become my new favorite game! I am glad you enjoyed this game!
this video is just too good. i cant belive you have just 85K views on this. the attention youre paying to the details and stuff is really good. keep up the good work
39:50 Thats something I really love about this game. So far as I'm aware, it only has one camera. It's like that Michael Keaton movie, Birdman. When your attention is on something, either the camera pans to it or the subject enters frame; no cuts. The only time you're not seeing one long, continuous shot is when you're in a menu. No idea why it was made that way. Maybe so you can feel like you're a part of the adventure? Your personal POV doesn't cut in real life. So maybe that's it. Either way, very cool.
Hope it's ok to leave another comment as I don't see my last one showing up. Thanks so much for playing & sharing with us the full game reactions! I caught 9 kh refs, anyone let me know if I missed some!
it was a joy to watch your playthrough, i experienced a lot of the same emotions as my first playthrough lol. and was reignited with my love for this game with you, thank you!
I got to see your God of War Ragnarok live reaction on Twitch, but I missed the playthrough of the first game, so I'm so glad you put this together. It is always fun seeing your blind reactions!! :)
Kratos seldom resorts to brute forcing puzzles for two reasons: 1. Teaching his son to think. (on their journey, there will be plenty of opportunities for combat practice; not so much to study and use their brains) 2. Kratos is not a mindless brute. He is a mindful brute. :D
4:19:10 My goodness. This series has had such great acting. Christopher Judge well deserved the award for Ragnarok. But this performence by Danielle Bisutti always does it for me. No matter how many times I see it I always tear up. The setup, the music, the performence. Perfection. And she continues to impress in Ragnarok aswell. Amazing cast, amazing creative team. Games of their years each, series of a decade.
One thing I always wanna point out. Atreus was a dick after he found out he was a god, BUT!!! he only turned REALLY BAD after Kratos let him drink 1000 year old wine he found in Týrs basement vault. So basically Atreus was drunk off super lit wine when he insulted Sindri, trash talked his dead mother and killed Modi.
Glad to see someone else saying this lmao. At first he reacted to the (partial) truth with simple curiosity but he also gradually showed some signs of overconfidence, which Mimir noticed. He only started acting like that when he drank the wine and Kratos refused to tell him about his past yet again. Happy to see that maybe it's not a stupid thought after all!
Watching this video i saw than you dont know Kratos´s story. If you want to complete the God of war experience and discober Kratos´s past you can play the Greek saga. Much better in chronologic order: -Ascension -Chains of Olimpus -God of war I (In this one you´ll find the tragic story about kratos white skin) (trailer "From ashes" at the end) -Ghost of Sparta -God of War II -God of War III (and it´s trailer) As you can see you have stuff for months just whit it. PD: i recomend play all of this games before Ragnarok...in Gow Ragnarok spoils the best parts of this games.
Fairly certain the object at 3:08:40 is some type of astrolabe, a device to assist ancient astronomers in charting the movements of celestial bodies. The observatory that Sokka and them use in ATLA in the library is a giant domed astrolabe.
Don't think a lot of people have noticed this. Atreus has a birthmark on the left side of his face similar to Kratos' tattoo. you can see it every time there's a close up of his face.
Regardless of how long was this whole playthrough, seeing a person who hasn't experienced a gow game for the first time is always such an amusing thing to see. Just by looking at her reactions almost makes it like I'm seeing this for the first time as well, can't wait to see the Ragnarok video!
This video almost makes me want to be a better Dad

No idea why it was made that way. Maybe so you can feel like you're a part of the adventure? Your personal POV doesn't cut in real life. So maybe that's it. Either way, very cool.
Hope it's ok to leave another comment as I don't see my last one showing up. Thanks so much for playing & sharing with us the full game reactions! I caught 9 kh refs, anyone let me know if I missed some!
What an amazing video. Hope to see a Ragnarok playthrough as well.
it was a joy to watch your playthrough, i experienced a lot of the same emotions as my first playthrough lol. and was reignited with my love for this game with you, thank you!
Great playthrough loved your reactions🎉
32:03 Unintentionally hilarious. We can parry Baldur’s Boulders.
This game is legendary beyond measures… will always be one of greatest game ever crafted ever in history of gaming !
Atraeus didn’t have a name until very late in development and the devs didn’t want to re record all the dialogue so that’s why he’s called BOI!!
I got to see your God of War Ragnarok live reaction on Twitch, but I missed the playthrough of the first game, so I'm so glad you put this together. It is always fun seeing your blind reactions!! :)
So glad this video showed up in my recommendations. Hilarious! Subscribed.
OMG YESSSSSSSSSSSS I BEEN READY.
Kratos seldom resorts to brute forcing puzzles for two reasons:
1. Teaching his son to think. (on their journey, there will be plenty of opportunities for combat practice; not so much to study and use their brains)
2. Kratos is not a mindless brute. He is a mindful brute. :D
Those photos looks amazing
4:19:10 My goodness. This series has had such great acting. Christopher Judge well deserved the award for Ragnarok. But this performence by Danielle Bisutti always does it for me. No matter how many times I see it I always tear up. The setup, the music, the performence. Perfection.
And she continues to impress in Ragnarok aswell. Amazing cast, amazing creative team. Games of their years each, series of a decade.
This was amazing. Such an awesome journey to experience everything with you and it shows how much work you put into this. Keep doing what you do. ❤
Can't wait for you to make a vid on Ragnarok
Watching you play this game was pure joy. My face hurt from just smiling all the time.
Watching this video i saw than you dont know Kratos´s story.
If you want to complete the God of war experience and discober Kratos´s past you can play the Greek saga.
Much better in chronologic order:
-Ascension
-Chains of Olimpus
-God of war I (In this one you´ll find the tragic story about kratos white skin) (trailer "From ashes" at the end)
-Ghost of Sparta
-God of War II
-God of War III (and it´s trailer)
As you can see you have stuff for months just whit it.
The photo slideshow was amazing
Don't think a lot of people have noticed this. Atreus has a birthmark on the left side of his face similar to Kratos' tattoo. you can see it every time there's a close up of his face.
2:14:14 Kratos rejects the apple being tossed his way because in ancient Greece, that was a marriage proposal and considered an acceptance if caught
58:39 "Lamb's crest... I'm The God of War goddammit"
1:14:45
Oh you are NOT walking away from that ogres loot because of the detail in the leather! 😭
Regardless of how long was this whole playthrough, seeing a person who hasn't experienced a gow game for the first time is always such an amusing thing to see. Just by looking at her reactions almost makes it like I'm seeing this for the first time as well, can't wait to see the Ragnarok video!
"Thor is going to come after us, and it is going to be terrifying."
You're not wrong.
The Horse and Hunter boat story gives me chills every time I hear it, because it is actually the story of what happened to Kratos.
The final reveal is so low key, its hilarious
The part where you meet the World Serpent he says "I know You, Ghost Of Sparta, Find Mimir, He will help you"
