Excellent video, thanks. So say 25 HP to drive each track assembly, that works out to a 100HP total HP loss to drive the 4 tracks. This means that the engine is left with 540 HP to pull the implement. Then the maintenance cost of 12 idler pulleys, the 4 bigger idlers plus the expensive belts. Mamma Deere must love this. I'll take wheels any day over tracks.
So more HP required to overcome the friction which means more fuel used when compared to a wheeled tractor. If I am wrong on any of this feel free to correct me.
You guys are 100% correct, VF tires with CTIS run down to single digits in the field will out preform tracks on HP to the ground, Fuel consumption, Ride quality for a fraction of the cost
@@John-nc4bl Tracks are actually more efficient at putting the power to the ground in loose conditions. Tires will win on harder ground. Tires need a higher slip rate than tracks which is a big efficiency loss. Tracks are definitely higher cost that you probably won't make back from efficiency. Tracks do pull harder than tires, 2 track beats 4 track on efficiency and pulling, 4 tracks allow for bigger machines and less compaction.
@@philb5593 Tracks last 2X longer than tires. Smoother ride in the field. 4 track systems waste way too much power to parasitic losses of all those gear boxes.
You are wrong. Wheeled tractors make max pull @ 10% slip. They are always climbing out of the whole they are digging. Not to mention tire life is a fraction of what tracks will run because they are not slipping like tires. We have had a Caterpillar 75D for over 20 years. I will NEVER own another rubber tired wheel packer on this farm. BTW I kicked JD to the curb way back then. Best decision I ever made too.
Where or what kind of shank extensions do you have. We have compaction issues from where the tracks go in the spring and thought if the shanks were deeper where the tracks are that might fix it
I would hate to guss the price tag for that massive awesome tractor, don’t think any new stuff will have the place in my heart of the old Jonny poppers,730s we had 4 running on the Dairy farm
So I bought a set n seed this year. Was able to set each row to 2” depth and adjust accordingly. Kind of crazy to see how much different the depth is from row to row and we verified the depth by digging every row and they were all within a quarter inch to each other.
Many farmers would struggle to buy a new 9rx based upon 2024 crop futures projections. I believe that tractor was advertised by dealer w/ about 300 hrs on the clock. If the same machine, those payments would interfere w/ sound sleeping @ nite 🚜🇺🇸🗽👌
The gps also functions the section control and turn compensation. In the last video, I made it very clear that I was not trying to whine but when you pay tens of thousands of dollars you do expect it to work.
JD copies everything they see. First the Cat two track system then the Case IH quad track system. These 4 track Deeres make one hell of a lot of noise going down the road. Straight cut gears from the manufacturer who introduced helical cut gears 60 years ago. Funk makes all of JD drive train components. Parasitic losses are horrendous as the have all the loses of a articulated 4WD plus those pesky corner gear boxes to get the power to the correct height of the driver in each track set. What an over engineered idea carried out by the cheapest way you could go. Shame on JD who has been misleading us for 20+ years. They are not the company they used to be. Innovation is dead and copy catting is in. Screw them.
Great content! Always good to hear the discussion between you and your Dad. Cherish the opportunity to work with your Dad. Take care and be safe...

Hello from Australia .
Just subscribed...😊
Awesome video.... We use to run all 2-trak JD's, now switched to 4-trak JD's...

G’job Carson and pops, hate to see y’all lose a tractor🤬don’t think your dad will be swayed on 4tracks in a day😂take care and stay safe🇺🇸💪🏻🇺🇸
great video guys. Thank you
Thats a bummer on the tractor breakdown! Hope they can fix you up without paying an arm and a leg!
Well that is not good, sorry for your luck. Hopefully what ever it is can be repaired quickly.
Tom appearance! I hope you can get your fixed tractor back soon. How much planting do you have left to go?
Luckily there was a rental available on the spot. The rush is on. get it done.
The 9RX has really wide tracks
That is an a/c line!!!
Why do you have different rows planting at different depths? The first two rows you changed to 6x5, then the next row you changed to 5x5.
So I bought a set n seed this year. Was able to set each row to 2” depth and adjust accordingly. Kind of crazy to see how much different the depth is from row to row and we verified the depth by digging every row and they were all within a quarter inch to each other.
quad tracks can't be that bad , almost all of the major manufacturers have adopted a version.
Definitely a place for them, just not for us.

The replacement tractor looks like one For sale in pipstone. If that is the case, it has a very $$ Tag. Listed w/ 300 engine hours of use.. 🗽🇺🇸🚜👌
If you are using RTK why not do alternate passes so you do not have to turn so short?
Because we are going to have to field cultivate the end rows anyway so really no need to eliminate burming
Agree w/ DAD, not a fan of quad track , not to mention the $$ in this short market 🗽🇺🇸🚜💯
Take bets on whether that new tractor ever leaves the farm? 😆
good vid.
use tractor for rifle target. get a red case ih 620 .
All ways good to see Tom. Is "T" the new female cat ? 👍👍
Maybe I should consider Case
You poor kid you had to steer the tractor with your hands. Hope you didn’t go through withdrawals from not being on your phone during that time.
The auto steer is more for precision than operator comfort. Straighter rows using less seed fertilizer and fuel are worth it .
@@anthonybanda8192 if he new how to use a steering wheel and drove straight. it wouldn’t affect the cost.

Someone is mad they don't have auto steer on their planter😂
