Wow thanks for the memories! I bought mine in 1983 and rode it my senior year in high school through my sophomore year in college. I had a black one and a bought a fairing for it, which made it look extra sweet.
What a great true classic! Beautiful condition! Best of luck selling her. I am fortunate enough to own one of these jems. What a blast to ride

The only brand new bike I ever bought .
Interstate speed limit was 55 mph in those days . It did 60 mph if I laid down on it .
I would take it on 200 mile round trips constantly in all directions .
I abused it for 2 year before selling and upgrading .

Some here I had a red one in 82 I was able to get it up to around 55.
same here I bought one in Manassas, Virginia for $513 cash. mine was black. I got it when I was 16. it was total freedom. 10500 RPM at 55 mph
That is just so beautiful! I still have my 1983 MT5 (the trail version) in good shape. Love it and will never sell it.
People actually love these things since they are very light, street-legal and fun. Hard to find also. This one is exceptionally clean. $3-5k+ US easy. Very collectible.
Getcha some Kreidler Florett's Ken! They are where the very best, imho, 50cc GP world championship engines, come from, thanks mostly to Dutch tuners Van Veen.. (Derbi is JUST UNDER Kreidler, on the list tho!) You do lots of big Maico's.... You should do 50cc+ Kreidler, Puch, and Zündapp engine bikes. 😁Getting an adult man to 100mph on a 50cc two-stroke isn't easy, but it sure is rewarding!
I bought one for $399.00. I was amazed at the time and still am now that I could drop $450.00 on a table and go out with a new motorcycle. I've owned many motorcycles and this is the one I regret getting rid of the most. I'm pushing 70 now and am riding a Piaggio Liberty 150 scooter. Great mpg, good storage, lots of fun!
I live in nyc. I bought mine in 83 July. TOTAL WAS 5 @ND change ,but yes it was brand new @399 b4 tax!!!

Had like 10 of these and MT-5s in the late 80s...
The wheels on this one are not stock. They are from an MBX. In 1982 you had the 3 spoke star type wheels.
In my early teens I would modify these things with enough power to do burn-outs and lay peels, 60 mph, larger ports, 18-20 mm carbs.
They are now illegal to ride in my town due to new emission standards.
Nice bike. I have a 1983 and a 1990 , im rebuild them. One is gonna be black, and one is gonna be yellow. I have made mold for tank and fenders and windscreen. So I can make my parts in fiberglass with gelcoat .

Absolutely love it never saw one or even knew about them. I knew Honda made MTX 50cc the MT5 but never an MB5 looks like an absolute blast wouldn’t pull your house off the foundation but would certainly put a big ear to ear smile on any teenager who wanted to start riding on the road’s face and the fact someone donated it is just wow where do you find these people I’d love to meet just one it must be amazing when someone says oh i have an old bike if you want it it’s yours just come and pick it up. Then you go to get it and it’s an a gorgeous little bike like that 🤤👍 as always take care and god bless your whole family and crew all the best. Edit - a UA-camr Dallas Brandt just posted the original 1982 MB5 advert 10,500 rpm redline $598 ah the good old days I guarantee that bike today will sell for easily five times that if not ten. If the guy that gave not one but two of them to you guy’s see’s this my hat’s off to you sir you are a true gent they couldn’t have went to a better home and I’d like to personally thank you for doing your part in keeping places like Kaplan motorcycles open. IMHO it’s a national treasure 🙏👍 god bless & much respect.

This is the first one I've seen with Comstar wheels as shown on this model. My Mb5 has 3 spoke type comstar wheels

Haven’t seen one these since I was 16 yrs old a long very time ago lol 😂, but I decided to go for the Yamaha RD 80Lc with micron pipe it was wheeler hooligan
and my 1981 250ccm two stroke (MZ TS 250/1) has drums on both wheels.. when I do 75 mph I like to look up int he sky and pray to St. Christopher that if I die it's quick and painless.. but heeey - that's how we rolled in ostblock countries!

In my youth i've had a Honda MBX build for in Germany we say "Koppelrennen" i dont know if you have Races like this in the US... Anyway Honda made the best Mopeds in the 80s and 90s
U could get a malossi kit to make do 70mph or a honda h100 motor bolt straight in

I've never seen one...dont think we had them in uk...we had the fs1e the ss50 and ap50...
Those rims are from a liquid cooled HONDA MBX50,normally there's also a small streamline-fairing around the headlicht...the headlight, turnsignals and the handlebars are not the original HONDA ones to the MB50...love those MB's.😉
The wheels were also on MBX80. The fairing what I have read about came 1983, here in Sweden atleast. But I dont know about other countries spec.

@@Rasse796 In the Netherlands there are about 20 honda mb’s for sale every single day. I bought my mb5 last year for €2000. Also parts are verry easy to obtain . There are a couple of big online stores where they sell almost all the parts of the bike.my mb wasCompletely repainted in white with the blue stripes and blue saddle. After 5 months my 70cc eurocilindro seized up and now i am running a 70cc airsal with the proma exhaust and a 6 speed gearbox. It tops out at 55 mph with low gearing.

@@Rasse796 Absolutely! I know a couple folks here in the D, that ride em, slightly ported, with a good pipe, and a little bigger carb. Just putting a good pipe on, a non-restrictive filter, and a little upjet, does wake it up.
@@DetroitMicroSound Here in Sweden they got so restricted they only had 1hp. So 98% of the people that owned these MT&MB's put ''Bigbore'' kits on them from start.
I myself went against the stream and put a Derbi D50b0 engine on one of mine.

I have an mt not an mb mime had a polini 70 an proma exhaust top speen 120 this one has mbx wheels i think ther a lot beter than the mb wheels and the 16mm carb not stoke the have an 12mm

What an oddity
The rims are not original, these are Honda MBX wheels. Google for original Honda MB5 wheels they are 3 spokes Black with chrome rim.
