I got sponsored on (2) 78 models that nobody could touch me on a straightaway. I had to sit on the gas tank to keep the front wheel down on the starting line and I was only 17 at the time. The suspension was terrible so we stuck an S/W under it. If you actually opened it up it would straighten your arms out. The power was incredible!! I could dig trench's

I was 10 when I first saw this MX250 on the showroom floor in '77. It was in Flagstaff, AZ, and a bike shop that I use to walk to, to see all the new bikes... and they had this up on a ramp -- it was by far the best looking dirt bike I had ever seen. I was a poor kid, poor family, and only dreams at the time. Of course, I wanted a minibike, but this bike stood out incredibly. While in my teen years, I then moved back to Cali, and then we had a Honda dealer not far from my home; a place I spent a lot of time just looking around and again, dreaming of a bike I never get. in the early 80's, it was all the CR's, XR's, and XL's that I had my eyes on. My fortune paid off, my mother relented, and I ended up buying a used 1974 Yamaha DT175 ror $300 -- needed lots of work, but I did manage to get it running, and I ran that bike into the ground... lots of fun. But sadly, I never got my MX250 nor any of the Honda bikes. My life took a different turn as I got older, and bikes were not a part of that life, or lifestyle. But I still do have them on a bucket list.

I did a little more research. There was a 1975 model that had modified forks for rear shocks. Most interesting the front forks were Showas, but the rear shocks/ forks were Kayaba. It also had a rear disc brake. Only 90 of the 1975 models ( which I believe we're referred to as prototypes) we're ever made.

when i was a kid i had a sl 100, rode every day, the neighbor kids dad bought him a harley 90, i think he rode it twice, never ran, amf pos.it would spend months at the harley davidson freedom center in billerica ma. only to come back and ridden for a half hour before breaking down again, he waited six months just for a throttle cable.

A friend of mine bought one brand new, I remember him commenting how it was much more expensive than its 250cc counterparts.

A couple of my friends used to have Harley dirtbikes . One was a Baja 100 and the other a 125 Rapido . The Baja was a sharp looking Black bike. It was known for its huge rear chain sprocket .

The owner of Jim's Harley Davidson has an original MX250. He has quite the personal museum. I recommend taking a look.

One version of this bike had forks for rear shocks. The theory I heard was that everyone complained about their shocks but no one ever complained about their forks, so they just put forks on the back for shocks.

I seen Marty Tripes race one of these with the fork shocks at the Daytona 200 Supercross in 1975. Airmacchi could definitely build competitive 2 strokes back then. If this is going north of 20 how much would their most successful dirt bike the Baja 100 be going for. Larry Roesler amassed a ton of wins on it. Lot of people put down AMF but this was their era and their most impressive development was the alloy XR750 flat tracker and Championship 250 and 350 2 strokes in GP road racing.
