We're going to show you the entire history of Oreo, not to mention its rival Hydrox, and explore every flavor combination that Oreos have to offer. Get yourself a glass of milk, because there are a lot of Oreos here to eat.

Would love to see a video about Cheez-It and it’s rival Cheese Nips
This channel is criminally underrated. Such high production value for a small channel, I respect that greatly.
Oreos always tasted better. Hydrox cookies are very average but they have a small steady following because they're kosher so Jews and Muslims can eat them.
Hydrox is an awful name for a food!
@Adam Stabelli Or a face cream.
Hydrox sounds weird now, but if they had oversold Oreo, we would be saying, “Oreo is a horrible name!” 😅
Hydrox sounds like it needs a Mister Yuck sticker on the package.
Hydrox sounds like the name of an evil robot from a crappy 70s science-fiction movie... and if it was it'd be short for "Hydraulic Robot Model No. 10."
Hydrox sounds like a Legend of Zelda boss.
The fact Hydrox was actually the first is kind of crazy, we really do see it as an off/value brand
Oregon does just taste better though
@@jedd.0322 how does Oregon even have a taste? (눈_눈)
@@l_T.d.._.r-----nI_l Goddamned spell check
Hershey Kisses were copied from Wilbur Buds, another Pennsylvania chocolate maker.
There's a lot of knock offs, but Oreo tastes the best and is the name brand.
Just like Coke and Pepsi, there's an obvious taste difference. Also, certain people swear to only one brand.
Oreo spends millions in advertising too.
As a kid in the 60s, I loved Hydrox and thought Oreos were too sweet. I liked the fact that they had less filling.
I always thought Hydrox (cookies) tastes better than Oreos.
But I grew up around my grandparents and they always bought what they knew.
Hydrox indeed tastes better
I've seen a lot of tubers take on the history of Oreo and Hydrox and I think this was the most informative. Well Done! 👏👏👏👏
Hook also did a great video on Oreos :)
You skipped the fact that the brothers had been screwed over by the board of nabisco and left to start their own conglomerate after. That is when they made the hydrox and began a century long rivalry that only ended a year ago when nabisco changed the Oreo recipe to make it kosher which was the last thing the Hydrox had going for it.
Yeesh! That's almost as bad as Famous Amos being forced out of his own company by his own family members who then stopped him from using his own name when he tried to start up a new business.
That's the way the cookie crumbles, I guess... (I know that joke was horrible but it was so obvious I had to go for it.)
@@ArcherSuh4721 that's crazy
If the Weird History videos are voiced by anyone else, I simply don't watch. Your voice gives the videos a completely different feeling - informative yet comedic. Keep up the great voice lol
Hydrox reigns supreme! 🎉 They should have pivoted to international sales… now Oreo is everywhere
As a kid, mom would often by Hydrox. I remember them tasting distinctly different from Oreos, especially the cookie part. Of course, I may be getting them confused with the store brand oreo knockoffs.
They do taste different! The chocolate is darker and the frosting is less sweet. You can buy them again now.
@@josephshrike3972 My memory is also that the cookie had a different texture. Less crumbly than oreo and more stiff.
I don't know if it was just Oreo indoctrination, but Hydrox just tasted off to me as a kid. I'd kind of like to give them another try.
I like the offbrand oreos because now the Oreo tastes different than it used to. It's not so good...
Was it really necessary to take deliberate steps to squash a gimmicky (and most likely limited) re-release of Hydrox cookies? Seems like a really petty and childish move by a company that clearly holds the entire market for sandwich cookies.
It is to them, especially if such hatred lasted for over a century.
I'd buy Hydrox if only I could find them anywhere (living outside the US).
Show’s persistence pays off folks!!
They just make me wanna try Hydrox even more. 😂😂😂😂
I gotta say, not a big fan of Oreos BUT the mint Oreos are FANTASTIC. Have you ever had a mint Oreo Blizzard??? It's life-changing.
I take the the mint patty with the golden Oreo. Reminds me of Christmas cookies… year round
@@AskMiko That sounds great! They should make those, even if just for a limited edition. I do prefer the golden Oreos to the chocolate!
Mint oreos are very good! But I love the peanut butter ones!!! My absolute favortie are fudge covered oreos!!!
The mint fudge ones are good too they're similar to the white fudge Oreos but mint chocolate flavor is so good
And a little-known pop culture reference. Before coming to WWE, the legendary Tag Team "The Road Warriors" used to have a finishing move called "The Oreo".Animal came one way with a running clothesline to the victim, and Hawk came from the opposite direction with a running clothesline. They sandwiched the guy like an OREO cookie. Animal & Hawk were the cookies, and the poor victim was the creme filling.
🥺❤️ I miss the red velvet Oreo cookie. They were so delicious, like a delicious dream!!!
YES!!
As much as I like Oreo's, I really loved Hydrox. I just thought they tasted better. As usual, great video!
Hydrox has a better taste to me for some reason i find oreos creme nasty.
@@cesarreyes809 Yeah, I like the cookies but I always remove the filling
I never had it (they are hard to find) but I want to try the legendary watermelon Oreo's. As for a different cookie history. Can you do the history of the "Snickerdoodle"
I've heard they're disgusting!!! Don't do it lol.
Archway cookies use to be sold loose then they started packaging them. I remember getting the windmill cookies from the cookie bin and bagging them myself in late 80s.
"The one and only Oreo cookie."
Well, except for that other one. 😁
(Do one on the Fig Newton!)
You know if Hydrox didn’t focus on being the original they probably could’ve surpassed Oreo, but instead they drowned in the ocean of salt
They could even rebrand now as healthier Oreos due to using real cane sugar and their original formula. People love that kind of advertising now. Even I heard that and thought hmmm, maybe I’ll try them because it’s real sugar and not corn syrup.
One of the reasons Oreo has stayed on top is they keep doing new varieties. It’s the same way Mountain Dew stays fresh.
When I was a kid, I thought that Hydrox cookies were an Oreo knock off.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...and disappointment for Hydrox
Fun fact: Oreos are VEGAN. The cream is soy based (probably to keep it shelf stable) and the cookies don’t use any dairy products.
Hydrox was first. Mind blown 😮
I'm obsessed with these videos and the humor is just perfect.
My Mom actually grew up with Hydrox cookies, so when I was a kid she used to buy those and lemme tell you, they were truly superior...oh well Oreo's are still great!
I agree with you; I always thought Hydrox cookies were better. Of course, Hydrox was not made with lard, ever, so maybe that had something to do with my taste preference.
Thank god it’s the dude!🎉
Yeah I can't even watch it when he's not narrating
When I was a teenager in the 80's, I would eat the Oreo filling and give the chocolate cookies to my cat Bert. I didn't realize at the time chocolate wasn't good for cats, but he died in 2001 at the age of 17 so he was fine!
My cat likes the chocolate cookies from oreos too.
I loved Hydrox with peanut butter and milk!
Double Stuff ( which came out the same year I was born), Peanut Butter, and Coffee are my big 3 flavors.
I can’t keep Oreos in my house. They have a tendency to disappear. 🙂
I’d love to see a video on Jammy Dodgers next!!
My mom bought us Hydrox cookies growing up. We liked Oreos better, but Hydrox were softer so the old people with no teeth liked them better.
I've tried hydrox when I was about three. tasted exactly the same, but it was softer
Hmm, maybe I should try Hydrox instead! I'm not a big fan of Oreos because they're rather dry.
@@laneatkinson6441 hydrox would be the ticket.
The Oreo cakesters are my favorite & they are soft too. ❤
Growing up my parent’s always got Hydrox. It was one of my dad’s favorite cookies. It was sad when they slowly disappeared and I realized I couldn’t have them anymore. As a kid I definitely enjoyed them more.
Sometimes you can get them through Amazon just a whole case usually.
This just makes me feel sad for Hydrox
I'm surprised that there was no mention of the "dipped" version of the Oreo. The white chocolate dipped Oreos are my ALL TIME favourite indulgence...especially with vanilla ice cream. 😋
Always informative 😀
In 2003 there were 'Uh-Oh Oreos' which were golden cookies w chocolate filling. Those were awesome!
the big thing about hydrox still being around despite oreo being the bigger brand now is that hydrox was kosher and it took oreo until the mid 2000s before they could get that approval as well
My favorite theory about the name comes from a milk commercial I remember from my teens. It takes place in a board room, with a man stuffing his face with the cookies as they're trying to figure out what to name the cookies. When it's his turn he says "I don't know" with a mouth full of cookies and it sounds like he said "Oreo"
Watching this made me want some oreos. I also like to take them apart and eat the cream first then the cookie and also a dunker as well.
I don't think I've ever tried an Oreo I didn't like, but I think my fave is the 4th of July Oreos with the Pop Rocks in the creme.
_pop rocks in the creme_
Dang, that sounds interesting.
Tried them last July...😋🎉
Great segment 🥛
Still watching the video.. But reminds me of Food Theorys video on Oreos when Mat talked about Hydrax and Oreos marketing tactics
i remember when oreos arrived in poland, they were the new exotic cookies everyone was talking about but i also remember a lot of people disliking them
Hydrox is a ridiculous name for a cookie. My favorite childhood cookie were the Lemon Coolers. They haven’t produced them in many years.
Oreos do not taste the way they use to. And I remember Hydrox tasting a little better than Oreos. Especially now Oreos taste more like sugar than chocolate.
That is what i thought about the changed taste just like Coke
@@gdubya83 coke does taste bad, nearly tastes like cough medicine for me
I don't recall coke tasting like that.
they are no longer made in USA, they are made in Mexico
@Teri N do you think they taste better than Oreos. Because I remember them tasting slightly better
The Peanut Butter ones for me are like drugs. They are heavenly.
Have you tried drugs
Hi Weird History Food, thanks for sharing with us the history of Oreos. However, you forgot to mention about the Oreo Barbie doll, which was a combination of pop culture use and controversy. But otherwise, I enjoy that sweet and spicy history of the relationship between Hydrox and Oreo cookies, ha ha!
I think that I’ll share this with my boyfriend since he requested me to make an Oreo cheesecake for him one time, which I have still yet to do because I was diagnosed with borderline pre-diabetes back in November, which caused a health scare for me.
Woohoo it's the guys voice.
Nabisco's secret weapon was Hersheys cocoa! That's what set it apart from the Hydrox cookie.
Anyone who watched this video without wanting to eat an Oreo, I salute you
The amount of cream that’s been showing up in my Oreos lately is pretty suspect
@@thenagain12 the cream used to come almost all the way to the edge of the cookie and the last few bags that I got it was about 5/16 away from the edge and slightly thinner. I won’t lie though, I still enjoyed them. As I age I like the cream a little less.
it's crazy how they took someone else's work.
"Hydrox" just doesn't have the same ring to it. Sounds like a fire hydrant, or something in the periodic table of elements.
Oreo is that one cookie I comeback to, albeit sporadically. Having developed a love of baking, I bake my own cookies (it's fun). Every so often, the urge to have an Oreo will hit me and I have to indulge in it.
I usually try to eat healthy but on a recent trip to Mexico, we bought and ate a whole package of Oreos from the resort store every night after coming back from dinner!😂 In Mexcio they are required to tell you on the package that the product has excessive calories, sugars, saturated fats and sodium, which oreos all have, but that didn't stop us. So good!!🤤
I think a good video for this channel would be interesting things connected to the McDonald's happy meals, like how it's due to a McDonald's happy meal deal is the reason that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 got split in half, since the date for the happy meals made it that Sega needed to release the game in time for it, with the other half being released in Sonic & Knuckles.
I lived in New Jersey right up the street from the factory...which recently closed. LOVED the smell....right before it rained...
I'd love to hear about Fig Newtons. Always been my favorite snack.
I’m an Oreo diehard. My favorites are the double stuffed of course, red velvet, the discounted Reese’s peanut butter Oreos, the limited white chocolate fudge Oreo and the Cakester Oreos. The golden Oreos are okay too. I even make my own version of cookies and cream ice cream using Oreos in my chocolate, strawberry and of course vanilla ice cream.
Hydrox sounds like the name of a chemical. In my favorite version of the Oreo is the white fudge Oreos. They only come out around the holiday times
I love those too.
I love the hydroxyl cookies. My grandfather worked for sunshine biscuit, and we always had those on hand. They were better than Oreos, because the frosting inside was less sweet and greasy. The Oreos always felt like sugary Crisco between two cookies.
I love me a good Oreo, the classic is great but I sure love the lemon ones from time to time. Actually was eating an Oreo when this video popped up.
Just finished a whole box of Oreos today, after a week. And now you’re firing up my addiction again smh
Please do The History of Crumbl Cookies and Chips Ahoy
I never enjoyed dipping them in milk, because then you're just eating a soggy cookie. I don't think the milk taste carries through anyway, so you may as well be dipping it in water.
good video
The chocolate creme Oreo cookies were my favorite.
I have a tin box with that vintage “I must have Oreo Sandwich for dessert” ad on it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t stuffed with Oreos when I got it.
There is one limited-time variation not mentioned here: the Holiday/Winter Oreo, which until recently were sold during the Christmas/holiday season. They featured either red or green filling and the cookies themselves had designs like snowflakes, ice skates, and snowmen instead of the regular Oreo patterns
Anyone else reminded of the MadTV skit with Stuart in the child psychiatrist's office?
I never liked the double stuffed Oreos, the whole composition is thrown off...
How about an episode on Twinkies in the future?
Birthday Cake Oreo, ❤😋Double Stuff are my favorites!
I love Oreo's a very good tasting cookie plus different flavors to choose from!!!
Is there a video of the history of the Keebler company?
Certified Gold!!!!!
I enjoy either pulling the tops apart and scraping the crème or dunking them in milk until they are soaked.
Oreos are the BEST cookies EVER..🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪
Love oreos!!!! Don't forget the detective comics #27 reprint offer from oreo back in the day 😊
Mint Oreos are my favorite. And mint Oreo milkshakes...those are heaven!
There actually is no debate. The best way to eat Oreos is blazed as fk.
I miss uh oh Oreos. Those were my favorite. Although a vanilla cookie with birthday cake would be amazing.
I like oreo they are so amazing to eat. 😀👍
This dude’s narration can never be topped
I never understood dunking Oreos in milk. They disintegrate quickly & completely lose flavor. Then I tried dipping Hydrox in milk, now I think Oreo stole "milks favorite cookie" from Hydrox. It doesn't break apart, and tastes drastically better after dipping in milk. It beats the default Oreo in every way except for that terrible branding. Hydrox sounds like a medicine you take to loosen your stool.
i didn't see Hydrox in a Wal-Mart, but i _did_ assume it is/was a knockoff.
and thanks in advance for sparing me the "Never assume..." lecture
Amazing how at 5:48 they are showing you what cookies, sugar will do to a child or even an adult yet it seems like such an innocent commercial of a baby and a couple parents about cookies.
This is just happened to be my favorite cookie
IMO the Oreo milkshake is its final form
Should have just renamed hydrox cookies so the name didn't sound like a cleaning product.
A+ video!
It's such a classic!
Did Hydrox get screwed even in a ruthless economy?
I will never understand the simultaneous genius of the original hydrox cookie with it's absolute stupidity of naming it something that sounds like industrial disinfectant
I tried the salted caramel ones. Omg 😋
Thanks WHF❤
