My father was medivacd recently after a bad crash in a fairly rural area. Air ambulance definitely saved his life. Mad respect to these blokes. The grimace on the face of a grizzled air ambo tells you how bad this bloke was, they would see the worst of the worst. Excellent work fellas, its a hellava thing you do.
Unknowen Privatarium Same times it's easy to keep eye contact so that don't loose him again jumping is much faster and it let's keep crew member keep eyes on the survivor not worried about the the swimmer going down the line . It just makes less work for less hands hope this helps
What a great Air Ambulance service but one question why didn't they immediately fly him to the John hunter instead of landing at an oval nearby meeting ambulance crews?? just curious
+Zraupp10 Thats fair enough but i thought it would have been quicker transporting him to the hospital straight away and have a fuel drum at the hospital for them.
+Joshua Hamdorf as I understand it they got him on the ground as soon as possible so that they could have working room outside the aircraft to treat and stabilize him. Then they put him back aboard and flew him to hospital. In this case I believe they thought they could give him what he immediately needed more quickly that way. If he had needed to be rushed to a trauma room I believe they would have gone direct so that he could have been in surgery practically the moment the helo landed, but in this case they were able to take care of his immediate needs (fluids, warmth, morphine, dressings on exposed burns) more quickly by simply landing as soon as they got to shore. Then he would be in better shape for transferring to the hospital Emergency Dept. and would suffer less in the process.
I know but it would have been quicker for them to land at the hospital and get him what he needed there where they could most likely stabilising him more quicker, but look the main thing now is that hes ok so yeah.
not every time the fastest way is the best depends on his injuries. In the air you can't give him injections and make a venous access for saline solution or drugs/medicine. Whit his burn wound a 10min. flight could be to long without this steps. Normal is first to stabil the patient then bring him to a hospital. That's the reason why we have in Germany at every Rescue Helicopter Team a special Emergency/Trauma Doctor. He can give also the harder drugs/medicine that a Paramedic is not permitted to give.
f you have any problem any where in the world, an airplane can only fly over and drop some flowers. But a Helicopter can land and save your live. Igor Sikorsky's Quotes
Why wouldn't they just fly direct to the hospital? That is what we do where I work. The patient needs to get to definitive care at a hospital. Why waste the time stopping to land?
The hospital is about a 40 minute flight, they flew him to a nearby oval to stabilise outside of the aircraft - so he could survive the flight back to the hospital.

Johno go and do it it’s such a rewarding career
Same!
Danny looks like Kevin Costner :) Good job guys!
Real heros
Why did the Rescue Swimmer do a free-fall, rather than being winched down to the water? Free-fall is quicker, but winch down is safer. Any thoughts?

Obviously you cannot work on a patient inside the helicopter and he needed to be stabilised to survive any trip to the hospital.
