    When Andrew Yang was running for president back in 2019/ 2020 the world was a much different place. AI wasnt in the mainstream as it is now. Now in 2023, AI is changing the world and will continue to change life for everyone. We would have had UBI right now if Andrew Yang became president. I saw this after COVID, but as companies paid people more to go to work landlords increased the rent. How do you prevent that from happening on a UBI? Cuz it seems like whenever the populace has more money, the banks, the landlords and the companies do everything they can to take more

    • @Raphael11001
      @Raphael11001 Рік тому +12

      Can you give more context? I could see this happening in highly localized areas, but not nationwide or even statewide. When a landlord raises the rent they increase the risk of the tenant moving to another place (cheaper or not).

    • @blackmartini7684
      @blackmartini7684 Рік тому +22

      @@Raphael11001 everybody likes to play economy and say things like that, but that's just not the case, Since 2000, the rent index has increased 73 percent compared to only 46 percent for overall inflation. Housing can and will be the first thing to skyrocket out of control

    • @Raphael11001
      @Raphael11001 Рік тому

      @@blackmartini7684 I'm not questioning that housing prices are too high, or that they are higher than the overall inflation. But we need to look at the different causes to understand the full picture. Just looking at rent for example, if the gov reduces interest rates then the mortgage from buying a house can become cheaper than your current rent.
      But also the argument that higher wages get eaten up by landlords doesn't track. We just don't see that effect in the real world, unless the offer is constricted (highly dense areas, like NYC, SF, London, Shanghai, Hong Kong). One of the reasons for this is foreign investors buying real estate as security. This pushes the price up way beyond what locals can afford.
      During the lockdowns, housing inflation was pretty low, below food/groceries. It started to rise in late 21 and peaked in 22. It has been falling for several months now.
      Specifically on UBI, the data I've seen from the longest trials show no abnormal increase rise in housing inflation, or in inflation at all. In the Alaska example inflation actually decreased in the beginning, but then it stabilized.
      And while Americans were receiving their covid relief and enhanced unemployment benefits, housing inflation was one of the lowest in decades. It only increased after those benefits had ran out.

    We have a representative government instead of a direct democracy to prevent mob rule. Also, so that people in different areas that may have a completely different way of living get representation. You get these people living in the cities that have a completely different mindset from the people living in the country.
    I completely agree with you, Peter. Politicians do not solve our problems and frankly we don’t need them to. We can do this on our own. I know this has been your focus. I have been reading your books for many many years.
    I agree we should get rid of the party primaries. I would personally rather do away with the parties altogether ha ha. We also need to drain the money out of politics. Everybody should have the same opportunity to speak and be seen in the political process. No more super PACs .

    1:09:28 Yang: “We’ve been operating under this resource constraint mindset and institutional setup, and everything else where it’s zero sum. And we’re about to hit a point where a lot of these goods will have essentially zero marginal cost. And then what do you do in an era of abundance? What does that become? We’re not set up for it. And in many ways I feel like the challenge is trying to prepare us for abundance in a time when scarcity actually, unfortunately is the lived experience of many of our fellow Americans and humans.”
    Indeed. What's the quote? "The future is here. It's just not evenly distributed." It doesn't even need to be evenly distributed. Just way more evenly distributed.

All earthly goods are for all men in this modern world of the age of plenty, particularly in this age of global technologically-based digitalization among other modern developments, without exception. Hence, all men without exception, have the inherent basic inalienable rights in strict social and economic justice to share through constitutional mandates of either national, regional or global governance from the abundance of earthly goods at least the non-conditional and non-discriminatory basic income provision through unearned modes of a monetary amount in cash, check, or by credit card or electronic means of transfer, or digital money that will be sufficient to universally accepted standard of living survival as equally global-human-persons as citizens of the earth in a new well-secured better world.

    I am intrigued by the use of UBI to mitigate the negative effects of AI on the workforce. I believe that it could also lead to reduced poverty and crime. However, I think it could be even more effective for society if merged with a universal sales tax that would need to replace all of our current taxes on income and payroll (including FICA and Medicare). We should stop assessing taxes on individuals productivity (work) and assess taxes on our consumption instead. This would incentivize work, improve individual money management, reduce waste (if used products are not taxed) and lead to increased investment into self improvement (if educational services are not taxed). The other byproducts of a universal consumption tax would be reduced costs for tax code compliance, simplified collection of revenue for the government, reduced lobbyist influence on politicians, and larger paychecks (since there would be no taxes removed up front).

My friends and I thought about it and we all become the humans that live in these boxes with services to keep us alive. Our IQs will go down because there are no incentives to learn, schools will close down because AI knows everything. We start to relying on AI more and more. UBI pays for the services, corporations are greedy so they will cheapen things to be more profitable like they do in private prisons. I think we start to lose the meaning of what is human. UBI would cause the prices of things to jump, without a doubt. I mean, we've already seen an example of this with the COVID stimulus packages and their resulting inflation.
      Though AI run and managed corporations will be the counter to that - causing competition to rise above what any human-run organization will be able to handle. And that's the start of abundance. UBI kicks of a new wave of inflation, and then AI corporations cause massive deflation. The two forces will compete until AI wins. While we think our ability to consume is limitless, it is not. We have to sleep and we can only buy so much in a day. Whereas AI can keep producing endlessly, even overcoming all scarcity issues.
      We're right on the edge of a massive transfer of control from humans to automated systems. In fact, this process has been happening for a while, it's just now kicking in to high gear. UBI is one path to addressing the short-term issues of this process. But in the long run, the more we can pay out with UBI the more our economies will grow.

    UBI is the best and most important change, that could take place already NOW. There are ways to fund it. For example if you take a minimal tax on every transaction. You get your money from the bank. You take 100 € and you pay 10 cents tax. This would be quite enough to fund everything. You could also put a microtax on every stock transaction. It is absolutely possible. If someone wants to make a safe transition to AI and to be able to concentrate on a safe AI peace in society is crucial. If you don´t pay people you will have uproar and chaos also influencing the AI development process in the west negatively. This could basically kill humanity. So better let people have a UBI and make peace and let us make safe AI on this basis.

      It is wrong to tax one person to support another. It is wealth redistribution at the barrel of a gun.

    • @Solidfreeman01
      @Solidfreeman01 Рік тому

      @@psychicspy Yes, yes. Of course it is "wrong". That is BS, though.
      You get taxed to support others always all the time. THERE IS NO WAY FOR AN ABSOLUTELY JUST TAX. You pay for guys driving a hummer and accelerating in front of a traffic light tearing up the roads, even if you only use busses. You pay for people trashing the streets, if you never go out. You pay for people crashing with motorcycles even if you never drive. You pay for people having accidents from skydiving even if you are absolutely fearful of heights. Etc. etc. And it is fine. Because it serves a much greater good for the whole society.
      YES you CAN tax stock transactions by 0,01 percent or sth. to put a UBI into place. Because it is a miniscule amount of effort for an insanely greater good for all. We live in a SOCIETY. Which means that you can NOT avoid interaction no matter what. So we must accept this and make this interaction a proper one. And there is hardly anything better, than putting some tax into place which those people who trade on stock exchange won´t ever notice at all even one bit. And to use this for an extremely great good for all.
      This is also what laws do. They are not perfect, too. Sometimes people will go into jail who do not deserve it. THIS IS REDISTRIBUTION AT THE BARREL OF A GUN right? Redistribution of freedom and jailtime. Strooooong words. But far away from reality. Fact is, that imperfect systems like the law are being accepted because they are very, very good and useful while doing some things wrong sometimes. For a greater good for all. It always made sense to use such systems and it makes sense today. So there is no problem with such redistribution by a tax of around 0,01% or similar. It is not perfect, but great. That´s it.
      To talk about redistribution at the barrel of a gun is just the typical american anti marxist, anti socialist cold- war- bullshit propaganda paired with cluelessness about systems of societal organisation, like capitalism, feudalism, dictatorship or socialism. Redistribution is not always bad at all. And it takes place in proper ways already. Has been like that for a long time. Also in times of much more prosperity in the west.
      Prosperity can only take place while having some redistribution. Otherwise you wouldn´t even be able to even move through town, because everyone would own the land in front of his house and forbid you to move there or would demand from you to pay for doing so. Redistribution, which means that ALL people are allowed to use this space means freedom in this case. And not some shitty idiotic barrel of a gun.
      In the same way UBI gives people a ton of freedom from being constipated with the struggle for survival by doing shitty jobs or even worse, like crime prostitution etc. It gives them freedom to do those jobs to have MORE but not to have a little. Which gives those jobs an absolutely different image. A better one. Lifting the dignity of people up. I absolutely agree with Peter on that. Freedom from humiliation is worth much more than 0,1% on stock transactions. Get real.

      Stop paying your taxes, and you will see how real that gun barrel is. Dignity? You can't give someone dignity. I don't care how small a percentage of anything it might cost to provide UBI, any benifit is immediately zeroed out by having obtained the funds through force. The only redistribution that works is voluntary redistribution in the form of charities and gifts. Government redistribution is always by force. There will always be poor people. Giving people who can't manage the money they have more money will not make them any better off. It will enrich their landlords when the rent goes up, and their corner store owner when the price of groceries goes up. A favorite trope is that people would get degrees if they had UBI. Take a look at the average poor persons UA-cam history, and I'm certain you won't find a long list of videos related to the degree they would pursue if only UBI were given to them. People who don't use every means possible to improve their situation will not magically do so if given UBI. Go ahead. Vote for a UBI. I will invest the money in real estate and raise my rent to take advantage of all the extra cash people would have. You will accomplish nothing.
      Poverty is a state of mind.

      The closest thing to a just tax is a flat tax on consumption. I can control my consumption. I can easily become a minimalist. Try funding your UBI when people decide to start bartering.
      Do you know how I know that man-made climate change is a joke? If it were real, they would already have placed large taxes on the consumption of luxury items and fuel. Giving everyone UBI would increase consumption, putting more carbon into the atmosphere. Climate disaster is all a big lie.

      @@psychicspy hahahahaa, yes you try living in poverty, actually poverty $0 in assets $0, in income for 20 years. see how much dignity you have when a drunk coming out of the dance club pisses on your card board box bed for 100th time. how much dignity are you going to have when the cops jump you for raising your voice to the rich club going kid? you know nothing.
