    As I watched this video, I am truly amazed at your experience with the so called "family housing" here in Okinawa. IT was NOTHING like our experience. We are a Marine family of 4 (E6). My spouse works on Foster. When we checked into housing we were told that Foster was 100% full, absolutely not one house open! So we were two given on TWO options, both in a tower, both at camp Kinser. Yep that right....we live 40 mins away from where my husband works. So I would so that you were lucky that not only you were given options to live on the base in which you work, but that you were able to turn down houses and have two additional options!!!!!

      Marines definitely have it harder here than any other service. Without wanting to criticize the decision making of USMC commanders or the service of Marines and their families, I could not personally imagine putting up with the restrictions you and your families live under. I greatly admire your service and sacrifice, and my family is grateful for the highly professional marines on Oki!

    Sure brings back memories...
    I hope your sons will appreciate how much you are doing for them, in choosing housing and providing each of them a room of their own, in an area that will be surely converted into luxury condominiums once the U.S. gives it to the local government.

    My military brat siblings and I NEVER ever had a say so in where we lived, NEVER. We relocated 13 times before I graduated high school. I lived with so much pent up anger, it's indescribable. Swore I'd never join the military but joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1978.

    I lived in one of the Camp Foster towers from 1992 to 1993. It looks exactly the same 22 years later, except for the wood floors and carpet. When I was there, it was all the white tile that's out in the common areas.

    Those wood floors are really really nice, i lived on USCG Air Station Bouriquen for a while and my house had tile throughout the whole house, i really miss having wood

    This is huge! I keep hearing we have to downsize, but coming from to our 630sq ft downtown Norfolk apartment we may have to buy furniture to fill it. 😳

    So...did you luck out and get a haunted place? We lived in three houses there (one off base and two on)...and one of them had definitive activity. A 4-unit building in Washington Heights on Kadena. All occupants at the time experienced a presence of two children... Have never experienced anything like it before or since. Fun times!

    • @MisterAsshole2U
      @MisterAsshole2U 7 років тому +2

      LunaGer my house has been haunted by one child for about ten years, and a second one started haunting us three years ago. I called the ghost busters, but they said they don't remove living children. So, I'll have to wait until they're 18 I guess.

    Hi, I'm curious, but what is your MOS? How were you able to get stationed in Okinawa as a soldier? I dont know of any Army forts in oki? I'm curious because I want to get stationed there, but cant think of what MOS you would need to get to Oki.

    Can’t any other service just be great full . Instead of complaining about housing? I went thought the same proses as a senior staff NCO. Look at the silver lining. A short cut to exotic travel locations, and a wonderful culture to experience.

    • @arianapollard8091
      @arianapollard8091 5 років тому

      You wont be. 12B are not part of ADA or ordinance and theres no need for combat arms. There is a special forces unit on Tori station. 10th RSG but thats it.

      Theres a few army units there. 1-1 ADA, 10th RSG and i think a unit or 2 more. I was in the Army and attached to 1-1 ADA for 2 years on Kadena Air Base. From 2015 to 2017. I was a 91F

    Must be nice to option we sure didn't it was this is your house take it or leave it now they act as if they are entitled to a choice. . The service has fostered a sense of 9-5 in so many especially the spouses who on Okinawa often act like they are long suffering when they have so much more than anyone did just 20 years ago. HOusing is so much better... they need to get over themselves.

      kuririn1975 That's what I would think since Japan has some of the best infrastructure in the world.

      Crammit actually, the Tokyo ElectricPower Company TEPCO did anticipate a tsunami wave flooding the emergency generators, but declined to move them as that would be too expensive. Some planning.

      I believe the apartments run on 120v just like in the USA so you can use NTSC TV's and all that and not have to convert any of the voltages.

      martin gomez the schools on base are almost identical to schools in the US. They do offer a Japanese culture class which is amazing, taiko (drum) club after school and summer culture camp.
