Opeth - The Making of Blackwater Park (Read desc)

- Please read: This was originally the 2/4 Part of the documentary. All the other parts were copyright claimed by Sony Music Entertainment as well as other greedy cumstains. Part 1 and 3 were blocked, but part 4 was outright deleted. I'm sorry for the inconvenience but this is out of my control. I know it's not right to rip documentaries from a DVD to UA-cam, but I wanted to show it to the community and it was fun while it lasted. Thanks for watching and commenting. More info below.
Part 1 (Unlisted): • Opeth - The Making of ...
Part 3 (Unlisted): • Opeth - The Making of ...
Documentary directed by Fredrik Odefjärd
The Making of documentary from Opeth's Blackwater Park Legacy Edition DVD. It sheds some light into the production of the album and gives some insight to the thoughts of the band aswell as Steven Wilson who helped producing the record.
This is fantastic, I've been a fan of Opeth for 20+ years and I've never seen this footage. It is this feeling of nostalgia mixed with the past, where you had to wait patiently for your friends to buy the record and gather around and listening to it for the first time. Thank you.
You're welcome. I'm sorry the rest of the documentary isn't up anymore. The other parts were copyright claimed years ago. Seeing comments like yours is the reason I uploaded this in the first place. Thanks.
Mikael Åkerfeldt: God of Chord Progression
Lmao
7:19 - That's why I love Opeth, and what's missing from their latest three offerings. Genius.
"people seem to believe that I'm sitting in a forest with my guitar praying to the moon". that would be awesome if Mike actually did write songs that way.
Seeing Mikael play those acoustic parts from Bleak and Harvest by himself without the rest of the band is fucking amazing..
00:32 Blackwater Park
04:47 The Leper Affinity
05:43 Bleak
07:19 Bleak
07:33 The Funeral Portrait
08:46 Harvest
Thank you
2001...the year I and Black water park was born 😀
yeah me too
Holy cow it's a twenty years younger Steven Wilson. Good thing he worked with them on the album.
I love Opeth so much....
Mikaels face was a lot rounder than it is now
7:20 - 7:30
One of the best transitions ever!
When I first watched that Making Of I started crying when Mikael smiles during Bleak :')
That chorus theme to bleak is so awesome. It sounds like the greatest cradle of filth riff dani filth wish he wrote. Very “black metally” and epic.
so opeth is pretty much akerfeldt's musical child?
Exactly
always has been
Is that Steven Wilson saying "close" at 4:55? =D
yes
their best album
maybe not

I know this comment is almost a year late but if you're still wondering what these tom mics are -> sennheiser md421's which are really common on toms (and other percussions) and sound really good on em :)
@Bassbait The part where the distorted guitars come in in Moonchild is very similar to the part of Blackwater Park he's listening to when he says "Moonchild".
@Bassbait Well, like Mikael said in an interview, stuff like Iron Maiden and other metal they've listened in their youth will always be on the back of their mind when they're writing music, and then they just add elements from other genres like prog, which is what makes their music so special.
2 minutes- that foot discipline
@Cysquatching The Legacy Edition also includes 5.1 mixes of all the songs. :)
Thanks!
Wow. Mike's changed.
bring back chubby mikael
where are the other ones? :(
+Thomas Calvi The UA-cam deleted all parts of the videos. Only left this D:
Reddit
@valleisetesdal Is this part at 7:18 from a particular song on 'BP' or is he just fiddling around?
Bleak
@ciffi It's from the song Bleak, middle acoustic part ;)
I love that i just started singing moonchild from Iron Maiden 4:29
@ciffi It's from the song "Bleak" on BP :)
The middle section ^^
FUCKKK why are the other parts deleted? :(
@ImAStupidBoy Blackwater park, the title track, and @englundisgod the solo is from the funeral portrait
@Sodhats mhm... quite interesting :P after having seen mikael speak in interviews and on stage, i can confirm, he does have an enourmous head. i think its also enormous because of the amounts of brilliant musical diarrhea he forces out of there every 2 years. Opinions of Devil's Orchard by the way? I was skeptical, but it hacked my brain after a day...
@pantalaemon I have a theory that large heads allow for more resonance and therefore make for richer, deeper voices. If you look at a lot of great singers you'll see they have enormous heads.
I have no evidence to back up this theory. It's basically a thing I made up.
7:18 wonderful
Any sound engineers or audio people out there know what mics they're using on the toms? You can see from 1:40 - 2:40. The toms had a great sound on the album.
Sennheiser 441
Does somebody know the name of the song at the last part of the video??
It's Harvest.
Anderson Cano Harvest
Mikael looks younger now
He does look younger and healthier nowadays.
Is that the fella from Porcupine Tree right at the end?
Yep it's Steven. Sadly the rest of the documentary is not available anymore, they were copyright claimed years ago.
@mule71 Oh? Thanks for the info. :)
Enjoy watching, keep vlogging. Sending my permanent support to you, I've join your house, let’s connected new friend here godbless..,❤️👍🎁
thanks i realised that after a while, a little hard to spot at first with all the multi tracking
@Bassbait If you hear Moonchild from Iron Maiden you will see that is similar to that part of Blackwater Park. It´s funny...
Damn, when I see Mikael playing at 7:19 I want to give up playing guitar XD
fuck I want to learn that. Know what it is?? Or just a random booble
whats the song at 5:49 - sounds sickk
Bleak
wilson at the end
Guys, search for the full documentary on reddit, I just got it off of someone's google drive!
What happened to all the parts?
They were taken down due to copyright infringement years and years ago. It sucks.
@@Deathshuck that sucks. They have other making of’s for their albums, why haven’t they uploaded the making of blackwater park?
8:47 anyone know the model?
To an extent but it would be worse without a whole band input
@englundisgod The Funeral Portrait
What's the song around 6:00?
That would be Bleak my friend.
+Filemon von Numers Bleak. Monster song.
Bleak 🤘
7:35 is this song on Blackwater Park I haven't heard it?
Yes sir, it's on Blackwater Park. It's The Funeral Portrait. Listen from 7:35 onward. Yes, seriously. That actually freaked me out a little bit that the part you're looking for is exactly in the same spot both in the song and this video. Crazy coincidence.
@@Deathshuck I'm listening to is now and I hear it I must just have been not paying much attention before 😂
swedish sounds funny and I am convinced german does as well :D
@treaf09 thanks xD
@2Koranteng Bleak!
I´m surprised Lopez isn´t smoking during recording
It requires genius to come up with music
7:18 Song?
It's part of the mid-section in Bleak, second track from the album.
@@Deathshuck thanks alot
is it me or does mikhael have a pretty huge head?
Fat Mikael is the best Mikael
Svensk med mumin profilbild coolt
i'll say it: Peter Lindgren's playing wasn't good enough to be in Opeth. He has no feeling
Most ridiculous take I've ever seen, even if it is from 13 years ago
